FA W FA Cup 4th Round

Manchester United 3:1 Reading

Post-match discussion

Fifth round, then quarter final, then semi final.

So 3 games until final, and 4 wins to win the thing.
Ah i see. I saw how many teams were left this round and was dumbfounded.
We don’t even have any other Brazilians do we, not sure how I didn’t figure that out. Beautiful assist from Antony. Very good for him, heard he had a great game too

What Ten Hag has done, at least in my view, is that he has made me not fear playing anyone at home. There is this feeling that we can probably beat anyone with our best eleven at home. That is sensational when we reflect back to where we were 7-8 months ago.

Nothing particularly special about the win. Good solid performance but once again showing we lack a no.9. Plus the goal we gave away was horrid. We seemed to have lots of cover at the back post and none in the centre.

No idea why the foul on Cas was deemed not to be a penalty.

Antony has to start playing like this week in, week out.

Strange how no one has picked up on the fact that we don't struggle against low block teams much anymore.

EtH has got us using the ball so much quicker making it easier to create chances against teams who sit back and absorb the pressure.

The difference between this season and last is night and day, and things are looking really promising.

How about Bisaka roaming around like Cafu last night?!

I wanted him out but ETH seems to be improving him and the right side as a whole

Good point. It’s great.

Antony with his first assist! He could have had a couple more.

- Was surprised we started with such a strong side.
- Was very surprised Bruno started after his poor display on Wednesday.
- Rashford's goal should have counted because the defender made a play for the ball and things are reset. Too bad no record.
- Love Casemiro. I watched some of Sunderland's match and started dreaming of a Casemiro, De Jong and Diallo midfield 3 next year. That would be fun.

Paul Ince says he's disappointed that he was not invited for a drink after the Reading match at Old Trafford.

He says it shows a lack of respect.

It was late, and a school night, so presumably United knew that he and the team should have been making their way home rather than stopping out for a drink.

Lack of respect is ordering your drongo centre forward to put himself around resulting in injury.

I'm not old enough to have seen Ince play for us so I have no opinion of him as a player. But feck me he comes out with some stupid stuff in the media regarding united

At last, someone who understands the offside rules@
Both of you are wrong as I too was confused so done some research. On highlights program with Dion Dublin Official Statement from Var read out by Mark Chapman stated and I quote "Weghurst was deemed offside as the Reading defender didn't intentionally play the ball" if it was deemed he had intentionally played the ball the phase would reset and Weghurst would be onside. Dion Dublin replied "Rubbish , the Reading player change his body shape and intentionally played the ball and the goal should have stood"

But that's not why he was offside, he was in an offside position when the ball was passed, before the defender did or didn't do anything, that's the reason (or should be) it was given, if he'd been in an onside position when the ball was passed and in an offside position when it came off the defender then that's different and it wouldn't be offside

Dion Dublin is spot on. What a crock of shite.

Right, I am using my last post of the day to repeat what i have just posted.
The rules state if the defender is deemed to have intentionally played the ball (as in Salah's goal v Wolves) the phase is reset and as in Salah's goal he is deemed onside.

I am not stating the rules, Var is.

So this resulted in Var supporting Salah's goal and denying Rashford goal. What is hard about this ?.

Var's opinion on the night was that Reading defender didn't intentionally play the ball which ended up with Weghurst and thus didn't reset the phase and 2 weeks prior deemed Wolves defender intentionally headed the ball which reset the phase and put Salah onside to score. Both Weghurst and Salah were offside when original ball was played into the box.

He’s spot on that the Reading player intentionally played it. Which means it was the wrong decision to call Weghorst offside. As per the rules.
He was in an offside position before the Reading player touched it
