Happy with the win, Brunos performance and Antonys improvement in the second half.

Absolutely furious witnessing a start like that. It's a recurring theme, unfortunately.

What worries me the most is the lack of composure. Not only in front of goal, but also when playing 11 vs. 10. A lot of panicy clearances and poor decisions in transitions. It should never have been a nervy finish to the game. It's so frustrating to watch.

Mentality monsters :p

We had some wing play. I liked that. We should continue with that.

Can't wait to get Mount back. He'll drive in that set-up sooner rather than later.

Couldn't watch the game when it played but download it later and now finished watching it. Still so deeply disappointed... I mean, the result is great and kudos to the team for turning the tide. But I also don't want to overstate that because it took only 5minutes to be 0-2 down. That has to be enough time to get your act together even for us. Forrests gameplan was to sit relatively deep and defend. I think, we were alright in the 1st half but certainly nothing to get excited about. Same picture in 2nd half but it felt, Forrest was exhausted and therefore we were more urgent. Red card and pen key moments, don't think, we would have got the win without it. Still shocked that we were kind of hanging in there for last 20minutes even though we were a man up and playing at home with a lead in the back. How is it possible to not be able to try to be a bit more controlled?! I mean, if we would have killed the game with the spamming, alright, but we didn't...

Really disappointed by the team. Bruno was good, thought Dalot was pretty decent in a new role for him.

If we keep playing like we did last year we will achieve a similar result to last year.

In any case, the system we are trying to play is not a six and two tens it is much more complicated than that. All the players have rules to follow depending on what’s happening in the game (I think they call it phases of play).

If the players do what they are supposed to, we combat overloads from the opponent and create overloads for ourselves, especially in trying to win the ball back high up the pitch. We need two advanced midfielders to create numerical advantages in the opponent half otherwise they will play through us more easily and spend more time in our half.

However, if the players don’t follow their own rules, we get problems. The void in CM is supposed to be filled by fullbacks tucking in and CBs stepping out. The wingers have to chase back and cover the flanks. The players have to be fit but also they have to be very well drilled in reading the game and doing what they should be doing (which changes all the time depending on what’s going on).

Not all players will be able to learn it fast but when the whole team is working like a well-oiled machine, it makes fuller use of the total resources on the pitch. Players are doing more for the team because they have more complex roles which, in turn, reduces positional redundancy; it’s like playing with an extra player.

When it’s not being done properly it looks terrible but we have to give it time.
This is pretty spot on imo. Especially the part playing with an extra player.

Frantic, open, players looking gassed in first two games. These first few matches seem like an actual pre season.

We were way too slack, there has to be more aggression from the first whistle - teams will really fancy themselves early against us and we have to manage it better. Great to come back and I think senior players stood up to be counted today in a good way but damn we need to make things easier for ourselves. As it stands I feel we could easily take another 5+ goal hammering away at a good team.

Whichever way you dress up today's performance, our form in the opening 3 games is very very worrying. We're so easy to play against, we can't seem to control possession, our attacking players are still on their summer holidays it seems. I really hope Ten Hag finds something to sort it out, otherwise its going to be another painful season. Right now it just reminds me of Ole's final season.

I was expecting to get hammered today once it went 0-2. Thought we’d lose discipline and get done again on the break. As it was, we muddled through somehow but it’s a long way off clicking.

I thought, at the time, that our preseason didn’t seem to be very useful. Not enough intensity, not enough consistency of selection. A lack of replicating drills in matches. Basically not enough matches. As a result we look under cooked physically and under drilled.

The start was nearly unforgivable...but under any circumstances in the Premier League, coming back from 2-0 down is a positive.

I think we'll grow into the season (particularly if we get another midfielder in and Hojlund shows promise) but we need to make sure we're at least around the the others hunting for the top 3 positions or it'll be a painful dogfight during the run-in.

I'm obviously happy for the comeback, but it really feels like we're nowhere near to the progress we would like to have coming into ETH second year. I fear that we'll struggle to get into CL places to be honest

No it won’t. Antony does a lot of good stuff and isn’t a major part of the problem. Mount is not a right winger and I don’t see any sense in playing him there (will be amazed if it is even tried by EtH).

When Mount is fit we will go back to the system we have been trying to play. It is a good thing that EtH has more conviction than most of the posters on this forum. He has designed a system that he believes will help us to win consistently. Unfortunately the players are not quite implementing it properly yet but it will come.
I didn't say that EtH would do this, just that I tend to agree this is the way forward.
Mount has played there before and played well in that position before.

EtH has tried Bruno in that position on several occasions so it isn't too far out of reach to think he might try it.

Okay, apologies. I wouldn’t do it myself but stranger things have happened.

Indeed they have!

He probably won't ever try it, so you're probably going to be right, but it's an option moving forward.

Outside the first 4 minutes, we owned the game. You can even argue those 2 goals came against the run of play.
We passed it better, showed more fight and had a bit more presence on the ball.
Still hard to gauge because we were a man up for about 40 minutes. However, it was the best performance so far this season, make of that what you will.

However, we are toothless up front and our decision making is shocking at times.

Aye, I had a look on youtube at the highlights and the comments on there would suggest that Utd were battered and very lucky to score 3 goals, rather than the other way around.

Forrest did feck all, scored 2 shit goals out of shit mistakes and after that had maybe 1 other decent chance on goal. Utd totally dominated the majority of the game, aside from the last 10 mins plus the 4 hours of stoppage time. Definitely need more of a dominant presence up top and better decision making on the final third.

I fecking love a comeback win, but it's these sorts of games that should really give some of these lads on the pitch a wake up call, that they really need to work hard and focus every minute from the first whistle or they will get punished.

Hopefully its the kick up the hole they need going into the Arsenal game next Sunday and kick start our season. I don't understand why they think they can jog around the place and not put in 100% from the very 1st minute. At least its two wins in three and a better start than last season. We need another midfielder badly and hoping Hojlund can be a missing piece of the puzzle. Martial was awful.

Apart from the first 5 minutes (obviously) it was quite a good performance to be honest. Bruno was excellent and Rashford was better than he has been for a while.

Great resilience shown going 3 down so early, which is a massive plus as the mentality is questionable with this group. It’s about points early on and we’ve got 6 and deserved only 3. Still got a long way to go this team though . . .

I would've written off that first 5 minutes as really unlucky if it wasn't such a common occurrence for us to be so sloppy.

That said, well fought to come back from an early setback, until we actually went ahead and somehow found ourselves on the back foot against a 10 men Forest...

Need a proper wake up call before we face off Arsenal next week, otherwise it'll be the usual disappointment away against the top 10.

Exactly. It’s the real issue. It’s like after a summer transfer window, the team doesn’t get better but regress instead. Next game is a tough one again. It has become a common feel that every game is so tough for us now.

Good win in the end.

3 points vs Arsenal would be huge and a massive confidence booster.

In fairness, we're without two players signed to be starters and the owners aren't letting us sign anyone to further boost the squad, which contains a lot of players who just aren't good enough, unless we sell first. Except we can't sell those squad players, because they're not very good and not many clubs want to pay actual money for them.

It obviously should have been a much better transfer window. It started fairly well and then really fizzled out, so we probably are drifting into another transition season. It's very frustrating.

We should be smashing that lot 4-0, not struggling to claw back from two goals down
Arsenal drew 2-2 with Fulham, these results happen. coming from 2 down to win is never a bad thing

+ we absolutely bossed it after their second goal, 9/10 times that's a 3-0 win. they scored with their first 3 chances in the game.

Agree. I think the Glazers are the main reason we have this transfer window which might eventually be considered a disaster. I hope Mount and Hojlund work out.

Credit where its due, aside from his two failed headers that led to both goals, AwB looked solid. I like this new roaming freedom he has

Those first few minutes were 2021-2022 season again. The rest of the half was quite entertaining and it's incredible we cannot play on the front foot like that without being two goals down at home. If that had been away they'd probably kept on scoring goals.

The media tasted blood after Spurs and maybe them going after Erik has got him riled. I hope not (haven't watched the press interviews).

Dalot was pretty poor I thought, Martial is an embarrassment, Bruno was everywhere and Antony actually had a really good game. The squad is thin as feck though.

Such a big game against Arsenal now.

Arsenal will thump us if we switch off like we did in the first 5 mins. And a number of times we seemed surprised to have a man marking behind and subsequently lost possession.

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I don’t think Dalot is all that good. Too static and his passing range limited.Less said about Martial the better

At 4 minutes I was ready to slit my wrists but then, miraculously, United woke up and started to play! But how many times have our players been caught scratching their arses and picking their noses at the start of either the first or second half, and sometimes both? I shouted myself hoarse hoping to inject some urgency into the team! ETH has to get them to understand that when the ref blows his whistle the game starts immediately, not 2,3,4 or 5 minutes later! Thankfully our response was electric and it was, mainly, one way traffic for the next 40 minutes or so, but I was really worried that the opening of the second half could so easily be a repeat of the first 4 minutes, but it seems ETH was able to keep them galvanized....maybe he used a cattle prod! Forest remained a danger on the break but there were some great performances by Casemiro, Martinez, Lindelof and Wan Bisaka who was awesome, again. But though we were making chances the goal wouldnt come; Martial once again failed to deliver and missed a couple of chances a natural goal scorer would have snapped up, I was glad to see him removed; Martial is not the answer to our goal scoring problems and never was.
I thought the ref was pretty poor in allowing Forests constant time wasting, something they started doing very early on, but he got a couple of important decisions right, the sending off and the penalty. The last 20 minutes were agonizing and I cant understand why ETH decided to play safe rather than keep attacking; another Forest goal might well have killed us off.

I agree with the first five minutes been extremely disappointing, however over the last 5 years we simply did not come back to win these games. They were offensively exciting and took the three points.
I hope next match we are better from the start.

Has any club spent so much on two wingers with so little return from them?
Probably Chelsea. They are beating every record at buying useless expensive players at every position.
I will say Mudryk has been the worst winger easily.

On the Caf, It’s never an unpopular opinion to think that a player is shite

I thought Dalot was clearly our weakest link.

He was playing out of position to be fair

It's thin because everyone is injured. We have Amad, Mainoo, Mount, Shaw, Malacia and Hojlund. That's a lot of talent not to see at this point of the season.

Ah really? Well it is subjective to a degree. I didn't say he was very good but he caught my eyes with positive things on a few occasions, more often than with negative ones. And he did play in an unfamiliar role. I am usually quite critical of him (think he is the incarnation of meh into a player) but today I thought fair play to him. What part of his game did you consider as weak today?
