Why does it seem the team is always technically inferior to their opponents? Are we just a team full of cloggers

This could end badly for TH if he nails himself to the WW cross. He keeps on about his pressing link up play etc, which is sketchy at best. I want a striker to put the ball in the net, which he is dire at.
And the very leastw, a striker who is involved and available for passes.

Christ. This was a legit a 4-5 goal thrashing on another day.

That's almost the same as the Liverpool thrashing IIRC. And watching the game, it could have easily been 5, if not 6/7.

Honestly feels like we’re the worst team in possession. Ole’s United were criticised for playing on “vibes” and I don’t see how we’re anything different now. So dysfunctional.

I have serious doubts about making top 4. Rashford was poor last night. If he doesn't plays like what he did before the international break, we are done. If Martial can stay fit, maybe we could have someone to takes some load of Rashford. Our midfield is crap with McTominay and Sabitzer. Antony is someone that I don't rate for 84 million, if he is 25 million then I would accept his sub standard football. Bruno is back to his best at arguing with referee. Another wasteful season without making top 4 I am afraid.

It could have been a hammering, alright. It was a fair bit worse than Liverpool on the xg.

Hm, not sure about that one. There was another version where the dippers had 4.24 xG or something like that. I remember it because people were trying to make it out that the result was a freak one while in fact today we were just lucky.

For the me the biggest difference in the two team was athleticism. All over the pitch the Newcastle players were stronger, quicker and more athletic. It was especially telling in the 1st half when they seemed to win just about every 50/50 ball.

Speaking about 50/50 balls Wout doesn't seem to win many headers and when he does he usually heads it right to the opponent.

Top 4 is still looking pretty good when you look at Tot's schedule and our schedule. The big worry is we go there and that could be pivotal.

I think we will finish 3rd if we get Casemiro and Eriksen back on the pitch.

1. Not starting Weghorst when he's clearly out of his depth as a starter.
2. Not hooking both our CBs who were playing well at the time under the circumstances and replacing them with Lindelof who played CB by himself.
3. Not starting Bruno every single game, and particularly when he's clearly lacking positivity and throwing hissy fits all over the pitch.
4. Not playing McT in such an advanced position in the 1st half.
5. We already tried out Dalot vs Saint Maxim - wasn't it obvious to anyone watching that AWB was clearly the better option?
6. Not adjusting quickly enough to the midfield being overrun.

Yes, I really thought AWB was going to come in at the half. That would have made a lot of sense.

Good god the doom and gloom on here…

We were awful…no doubt. But this just as easily could be an extremely motivated team that we just beat in a cup final; in a hostile environment; after an international break; getting the better of us…we’re not the finished product, but this is hardly anything to panic over.

Three games in a row like this…then there should be panic.

Newcastle should have scored 7-0 against us and we should have no complain. It was so easy to play against us. The entire match St Maxima was running at full speed then cut back to make a pass, bang a shooting opportunity. I can't believe that it keeps happening the entire match and nothing was done. Where were the fecking midfield to stop the shooting opportunities?

It's worrying that we have regressed again under a new manager. This is consistently happening post SAF.

Mc tominay really has mastered the art of the ninja. Watched him closely and everytime we try and build up from the back, he positions himself in such a way that he won’t receive the ball. The lad is not stupid, he knows what he is doing. How is such a coward be able to put on the man utd jersey ffs?

Agree. The cnuts simply raised their game against us you could notice they had to sub all their three forwards by 65-70' because these three had been running non stop. And imo it's also because our two CM Bruno and Sabitzer didn't have the necessary physical to deal with theirs CM. This is basically on ETH imo.

In the second half ETH moved McT back and pushed Bruno forward. We looked a bit better imo. At least Newcastle didn't look as threatening as they did in the first half. Then their first goal came and changed everything imo.

Really worrying how we put these types of performances in. It’s one thing losing a game but creating next to nothing and relying on counter attack football against fecking Newcastle is pathetic

At times it’s like we are afraid to pass the ball it’s bizarre, we get into a routine of going for the killer pass every 20 seconds which ends up giving away cheap possession

We’ve been nicking wins with Weghorst for weeks now he’s just nowhere near good enough and when coupled with McTominay and out of form Sancho we‘re carrying 3 bang average players

Most of our away games against the top 6-7 have been dire like this. The gloom is not frivolous.

Everytime Weghorst starts we are a man down to begin with. But what other option do we have?

Liverpool Southampton Newcastle. There is your 3 premier matches in a row

First shot on target in the 2nd half that opening goal was for Newcastle.

Eddie Howe making ETH comments about time wasting look stupid. They played a lot quicker temp than us and went straight at us every chance they got. I don’t know why Eddie Howes pretending they’ve never time wasted before though when they always do it.

I didn't know that but the second half was more balanced between the two sides imo. Their goal couldn't come at a worse time. Both Martial and Sancho just came on. I was hoping we could play better and score then they scored. The goal gave them a huge moral boost and forced us to play to their rhythm imo.

Last night reminded of how City defeated us at OT after the 5-0 loss at Anfield. It was not the same scoreline (was it 1-4 ?) but the feeling was utter domination and being played off the park (not saying Newcastle played the same obviously).

A terrible day, it’s hardly a surprise. We badly need Erickson and Casimero back. We’ll get there.

Yes.

Only the backline is fine technically, but DDG is an issue under the demand of playing out of the back. Without Casemiro and and Eriksen, our midfield is not superior to many of teams out there these days either technical or physical. Rashford and Bruno are direct attacker and thrive when there is space. Both are wasteful with possession, but worthy gamble because their ability to produce match deciding moment.

Antony for all his flaw is the only that stand out technically and tactically when it comes to ball retention, and press resistant. There is a reason however ineffective he is in final third, most of the time hooking him off coincided with our general play suffer.

Still fuming early in the morning. How is it possible for professional players paid millions to not be able to string 3 forward passes together? Undeniable shitters. We are going nowhere with players like this infesting the squad.

I would love to know the percentage of headers he's actually won. He never gets off the ground!

Yesterday's result and performance was inevitable. We've been awful of late and awful away from home against anyone half decent all season.

EtH was as culpable today. Bizarre substitutions...Rashford clearly not fit and offering nothing. Antony was at least causing Burn problems. Completely destabilised the team taking two CB's off at 1-0.

We have or have had injuries and suspensions in key areas. Let's hope we're still in touch (can't believe I'm saying this) when Eriksen and Casemiro are back!

In top 4
Won Carabao cup
Semi final FA
Knocked out Barcelona comfortably
Good chance at EL

Missing 4 important players yesterday, everyone needs to calm down

Result wasn't great but revenge was always on the cards after the final. I still haven't gotten over Rodgers and Potter getting sacked on the same day... football gods whyyyy

I’m so fecking disillusioned right now. It’s the same every season: We look like we’re on the way to something and then the team just completely collapses.

Fully expect us to drop another stinker against Brentford.

There was one scene, which sums up our problems. 1st half, Fernandes came back to defend but stopped at the box. As a result, our defense collapsed, Newcastle had a chance to score.
Fernandes is a problem, but the bigger problem is, that we have so many MF, who act like this. McT stopped defending over and over again, or sometimes did not start. Sabitzer was lost in the holes of our MF. All our MFs defend passivly. Most of the time they react, sometimes they even don't do that.

People here always use the excuse that opponents raise their game against us - so why don't we raise our game too? We were piss-poor again: the outcome was never in much doubt after about 10-15 minutes. Besides the CBs everyone was awful, including, this time, ETH,,, and the thing is, a few here saw it coming. The next best after those two was probably McT - which says all you need to know.

We consistently gave the ball away and got ourselves in a complete tangle before their first goal. As others have said, could easily have been 4-0 or even 5-0. Never troubled their defence and Pope could have got out a deckchair.

Play like that in midweek and Brentford will beat us too.

So much still for the boss to do. Criminal not to have brought in a striker, which must be top priority but we also need someone to control the tempo and who know what colour shirts we are wearing

It's acceptable that we lost to Liverpool and Newcastle as they are top opponents. But it's absolutely unacceptable to lost the way we played.

No pride, no spirit, no teamwork, no fight, no creativity, no leadership, nothing. These players should be ashamed of themselves representing Man Utd.

The minimum requirement to play for Man Utd should be going all out every game. Fighting for every ball, pressing and running. We must go down fighting.
