EL L Europa League Round of 32 1st Leg

Midtjylland 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

If both teams had their badges removed and you didn't know who were supposed to be the superstars, you'd swear the Danish team had the £37m and £26m talents in Sisto and Inuecho.

That's probably giving Sisto and Inuecho too much credit. They look like tidy players but nothing special - we just made them look waaaaay better than they are. All they had to do to shake off 2 or 3 players was run in a circle!

Christ on a bike, this is dreadful. In the context of all that's gone before, that was probably the worst display I've ever seen.

And injuries can feck off. Anyone could see that our defence was ropey so we, for once, should've played Carrick and Schneid. LVG is usually desperate to do that so why he decided not to, I've no idea.

I am ashamed to be a United fan tonight, for perhaps the first time.

No flair, no skill, no control, second to every 50/50, made to look like amateurs by the 3rd best team in Denmark.

Wow, I couldn't have imagined that that was possible. I'm not going to dress up their performance, as they weren't anything special, but we were just that bad. Memphis and Martial were good in the first half but other than Romero, pretty much all of the players were utterly useless. We were far too conservative on the ball and we couldn't even do that well. Our approach was just simply appalling and lacked any conviction, confidence or any passion.

How LVG is keeping his job is beyond me now. Woodward might have some financial reasoning but surely the state of the first team at the moment is beyond breaking point and he has to be sacked.

Holy christ. You know things are bad when even you think he is worse than Moyes! ;)

He totally is, by the way.
This season (bar a few big games) has been far worse than anything we had under Moyes. Back there we were just atrocious, now we are possibly the most boring team I have ever seen, which gets beaten consistently by everyone.

Awful. That squad of players should have scored two or three goals against a side of that quality and not lose the game at the very least. This is easy to say now, in hindsight, but here's what I think LvG did wrong:

- You don't play Love and McNair next to each other. You put Smalling in-between them so they're both next to an experienced player, surely this is common sense?
- Herrera was a shambles and the substitution to bring on Schneiderlin should have come way sooner than 72~ minutes in.
- The front three were fading out of the game and Memphis down the middle didn't work. I can't believe that Keane wasn't brought on to at least try something else and get a goal.

However, all that aside. I think nobody other than Romero and perhaps Memphis in spells gave a good account of themselves tonight. When the other nine players in the side are probably averaging 5/10 at best, there's not much you can do.

I don't even know what to tell you all in this thread.

I think our attack has gotten to a point where even in front of an open goal we would struggle to score. We would just pass the ball back to the defence several times afraid of what might happen.

Well the word gets thrown around a bit on here but we were embarrassed by that side tonight. I'm afraid at this level it comes down to a total lack of effort and pride. They were fecking toying with us at the end.

Very much a copy of the Sunderland game. We go in 1-1 at half time looking like we're still in it then in the second half 30 mins have unbelievably passed and we've done barely anything and get caught.

The technical ability of our defenders is pretty shocking. I feel like I could've made it when I see them.

I think Fc United of Manchester would probably beat Van Gaal's United

When you think its can't get any worse, you always have next game.
I am dam sure Gigs could have don't better than LVG.
But he will still here tomorrow.

Midtjylland goalscorer on tv there saying they expected more from United. Humiliation complete.

LVG needs to be kicked out. No doubt about it.

BUT it has to be said, half of the players out there today have no right to ever play for us again. McNair, Love, Blind, Herrera, Mata, Lingard are all not good enough to start games for us. I still have hope in Memphis. Showed some glimpses today.
Carrick needs to retire. Fellaini needs to be sold. We have so much shit in our squad it hurts my eyes.
I would say they are bench players, but that is where our transfer policy was a shambles this season. They needed to buy more quality and apart from Martial bought more bench players. I warned about McNair playing and feel sorry for Love as but for injuries he wouldn't be near the first team. If Jose does come in and can get in that quality, then we will have a good first team and a good bench. The kids are either not good enough or nowhere near ready.

Probably for the best we lost, we're not good enough for the Europa League. What a sad sad state this club is in.

If we went up against one of the better teams in the competition, I think we'd take an absolute hammering.
We lost 4-2 to Wolfsburg.
I think we are worse now then we were when we played Wolfsburg, so maybe a 5-0 drubbing could be on the cards, if we do go through to the next round.

Yeah I have said before a few times - under Moyes it seemed we were just clueless, and there was no plan at all. Now it seems more like we are deliberately boring.

I have already said there is no point to these post match threads. Just go to the lvg out thread!

Phew, brilliant game from us, was expecting to concede more goals.

Sisto looked a good player, always did like the thong song...

I'd like to see Sisqo up against a better team.
We have a habit of making crap teams/players look like World beaters.

Amen.

I've mentally checked out of this season, so I don't even care anymore. Just bring on the summer where hopefully LVG leaves or is given another £100m, and maybe he will get it right this time.

Carrick was bloody awful as well. Morgan was no better when he came on. We are in trouble.

It really is a depressing state of affairs when you're losing in Europe to a tyre company.
