A decent result after the teams extensive programme over the last week or so.
A lovely goal by Lingard but what a shocker by Smalling to let Boro back into the game.
Rashford, unstoppable in the first half but poor in the second.
Taking Mata off,the team lost their shape with too many defenders on but,at the end of the day,we won which is what counts....up to 5th now.

Hopefully a required pragmatic approach at the end of the match. Nothing seen to date would suggest it's go to formation.

We won, were probably very tired and we're not 6th!

Entertaining and classic nerve wracking in the end. Oddly, I enjoyed it

Boro does a double substitution on 67 minutes. On comes their biggest lad in Gestude and their most talented and quickest/fastest player in Traore...what should Jose do in that situation? Keep status quo or react accordingly?

Did anyone get a banana this time?

Smalling just has very bad feet. I'd keep Jones. Bailly does not play well on the right of a 3. Rojo really stepping up.

Yes, Smalling does have bad feet.

I won't keep Jones though. I find more and more difficult to see what he brings into the team. He seems to be short on 'football sense'. That was not a problem until he recently started becoming prone to errors.

Rojo and Valencia are officially my two favourite United defenders right now. Baily impressed me at the start of the season but something is off about him lately. Was it the Nations Cup?

Good 3 pts! Valdes deserves his blunder to pay back for denying Ibrahimovic goal earlier in season. But i dont like the way Mourinho hold on to lead when 2-0 up. After Lingard score that goal, i'm pretty sure Mata will be subbed out within 5-10 min. Still dont understand why Martial was subbed in and stick to the left wing entire time while we only got 2 midfield in centre and Boro are switching play as they please.

Not sure about the fatigue thing though. Other than Valencia, nobody has really played all that much this season.

Everyone on the pitch today should have been pretty fresh outside of Antonio (and maybe Mata). Yet it was Valencia chasing down the 93rd minute clearance to their goal keeper and getting the match winning goal.

Lingard to me looked as good as he has all season long. Really took his chance today and made some blistering runs in the second half. Rashford was sharp and alert in the second half but his decision making and finishing let him down. Looks out of confidence and didnt contribute enough in the second half.

We never controlled the match.

Tired or not, you need to control a football match.

lots of talk about strikers.

We need our midfield strengthening badly.

Pogba and Herrera cannot play every match. Unfortunately we do not have adequate replacements in reserve. Carrick was very good today. But this must be his last season in football.

mmmm yeah
The way people go on about how great Arsenal are, yet we are only 3 goals behind them.

Don't think there are many who think Arsenal are great but that's the GD you're seeing. They've actually scored 14 more but conceded 11 more to go with it.

great result! great performances from all players on the pitch! great team selection from Jose! 3 points!!! yeahhh!! and Lingard was very good today!

April is going to be a 'mare with 9 games including the city game away. True test of credentials.

Exactly my thoughts, the 3 points is all that matters. Much better than the draw which would of happened earlier in the season.

But people will always find something to moan about.

Moaners wanted free flowing football without Zlatan, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, and a knackered, very thin in quality depth squad playing their 5th match in 15/16 days against a club that sacked their manager for a response (i.e. look at Swansea and Leicester). It doesn't matter how dross they are, we should have smashed them...even though it took a comeback from a goal down to beat this same lot at OT.

A better finisher up top and we'd havd been 3-0 up at half time.

Our lack of killer instinct in the final third is the biggest problem I see in this team when Zlatsn isn't playing.

Mourinho's tactics for the last 20 minutes were ridiculous and very negative, but at this time of year all that matters is the win and not the performance.

A great way to sign off before the international (zzzzzzzzz) break!

It's quite amazing the amount of people who can't see the difference between Mourinho doing what it takes to win games and Klopp for example who sticks to his tactics and loses.

Also it seems like some people are surprised Mourinho parks the bus as if he's never done this in the past. Are people so deluded they think Fergie never won matches like this when playing badly with a depleted squad?

I agree. The other thing is he adapts his tactics depending on whether the match is home or away. If this match today was at home and we were winning two nil he would not have brought on Rojo like he did today.

He did the right thing given we were away in bringing on Rojo.

Jose did everything he possibly could to throw away that game with his tactics. Seems obsessed with getting as many centre halves as possible onto the pitch at the moment. Hope to fck he snaps out of it soon

This felt like a classic Mourinho win. Look, I don't enjoy seeing six defenders, and Jose could have brought Mkhitaryan to retain the ball a little bit but I can't complain too much. This has been a difficult week and we kind of prevailed. Come next season, I would be a lot more frustrated with a match like this. But considering how difficult it is to play thursday-sunday, I am very delighted with a win.

As someone else said, they had brought on two attacking players, so they way our defence was playing we were not going to bring an attacking player on.

I'm not Mourinho's biggest fan but United just won away 3-1 on a lunch time kick off after playing and winning Thursday evening for the Europa League. Plus you had a depleted squad and yet people still moan. Bring back the champagne football from the past three years. It was a typical pragmatic Mourinho win. Not only that, now you can sit back and relax watching City vs Liverpool.
