Was Gestede doing this to Bailly? Didn't see it clearly:

Some on here needs to get a grip. 3 games in less than 6 days. Since January 1s we've played a game every 4th day on average. We're now 5th with a game in hand (two after pool play). I'm happy as feck!

Agreed.
We win 3-1, away and people are complaining.
Last season, we'd have lost this game, after dominating possession.

I'm dumbstruck.

Bringing on defenders for attackers and inviting more pressure on tired legs and minds does not help us with freshness at all. We took off Mata and resorted to pumping it long to Rashford who could win nothing at all in the air. It was not just cowardly and negative, it was foolish tactics.
With Young already on the pitch, putting Rojo in defense and moving Young into Mata's place was perfectly logical.

I'm in the minority but totally understand the Rojo substitution.

Boro had just brought Gestede on and were obviously going to start throwing more balls into the box. Also traore is difficult to defend against so Rojo was to give more support to Young.

The problem was the poor defending for their goal which made it feel less comfortable a win than it should have been.

Delighted with the win, was expecting a disappointing result given the number of players we had missing and Boro straight off the back of removing their manager.

Pleased for Tony too, they all count!

I agree with you.

What's happened in the tunnel?!

Too much uncertainty going on. Us not being 6th and @Lucky McLuckerson not doing the post match thread.

Ah that was my bad. Two post match threads were made and I merged them. As the one was made first that meant it was the first post. I can't delete the first post because it'll delete the whole thread

Just look at the thin bench we had. It's not like we had the likes of Pogba or Herrara to bring on. We certainly wearn't chasing the game so I have no problems with Jose's subs today.

For all of Valencia's not having a left peg, i think Smalling has two right feet. A good win and finally 5th position. Love Mourinho's celebration at the end.

Good result but they are a very poor team and we made it much harder than it should have been.

Four games in the space of 10 days, a trip to Russia included and a crappy traveling arrangement on return from London as well. We progressed in the Europa League, barely lost against Chelsea despite being down to ten men for a hour and won away at Boro with a very depleted side, missing Pogba, Herrera, Miki and Ibrahimovic in particular. I'm just delighted we finally did something useful after one of our rivals slipped up, couldn't give a shit about the circumstances after our fixture list over the last few weeks.

Very important to go into the break with a win.

What was actually a really good performance and victory made far more complicated than it should have been. Great goals from Fellaini and Lingard, but we just surrendered the game to Boro and let them pummel us with all they have got and was fortunate to not be pegged back to 2 2. Another stroke of luck for our third, but Valdez made some great saves in the first half so it evened itself out.

Rashford should have got a brace today, to great chances that should have put the game away early. It's not happening for him in front of goal at the moment, but was dangerous all game. Lingard was class too, if only he could play like that every game, every time he got the ball he powered through the middle of the park going past players and a wonderful goal to go with it.

Just a shame about the tactics at the end, maybe we didn't have the energy to win the ball in midfield but it was infuriating watching the last 15 minutes.

Still, well done Man Utd on a good away win and hope we have a bit more about us after the international break.

We never make it straightforward and easy. But 3 points is 3 points. Another excellent away win. We play better away from home because teams actually come out to attack.

Disappointed that Rashford didnt take his chance to make the striker position his own. Now we dont know if Mourinho will play him in the next league match after his multiple misses. Especially once Ibra and Mkhi/Martial are back and fit.

Antonio Valencia was my Man of the Match. Not just for chasing down that lost cause in the 93rd minute but for dominating that right flank on his own for the whole match. Would like to see some of our younger players like Martial match his workrate.

Hopefully we start scoring more goals at home.

It was an excellent result considering we were missing Pogba, Herrera, Ibra and Mkhitaryan. We basically used last years squad to win 3-1 away from home. Improvement.

People need to stop whining about formations/subs.. We have LOADS of games to play, what is the god damn point in putting more effort into a game to win 3 or 4 nil? Jose knows what he's doing, much more than those complaining about 6 at the back.

Apparently we have no dignity in Manchester United since this defensive and cowardly approach is even possible to think about.

I knew Mourinho was a coward, but not this big. I really hope Woodward and the board call Mourinho and say that's the absolutely last time he even thinks about having 2 DM and 7 defenders on the pitch at the same time.

I would rather have played the offensive football and lost 4-2 than this shite, I just saw.

I am and has never been the type "to win at any cost". You have some standards, you have to fulfill.

If this cowardly approach continues, then I can't wait for the day, Mourinho is gone.

Is this tongue in cheek?

Three points was all that mattered today and we got them. Again, we made it hard for ourselves by missing easy chances. If Jose adds a couple of clinical finishers to this side in the summer we'll have a great season next year.

Jesse Lingard can feel particularly proud of himself. He ran Boro ragged and was very effective in the link role from midfield to attack. Plus, when we needed some breathing space, he banged in a brilliant goal. Good to see him back to something like what we know he can be.

Ya I'm done with Smalling. As good as he looks at defending at times he's a bit of a donkey and it doesn't look like he going to lose those feck ups ever.

I don't like to post green smilies but you deserve one.

Ffs... Have a word with yourself

We didn't lose, we managed to move up the table. We missed Pogba and Herrera in midfield badly, Rashford had a good game but his finishing let him down badly, if Lingard could be more consistent he'd be a great player, Bailly looked all over the place in first half, and then Smalling was all over the place in the 2nd half. José didn't need to go ultra negative in the 2nd half, we could have bought on Mkhi or Martial earlier and killed the game off.

We stumbled across the finish line but at least we made it.

Good feelin when you win early and can relax and look forward to two of our rivals hopefully kick the living hell out of each other.

I do not give a single feck what formation/style we play as long as we keep getting the job done. Keep it going Jose!

Oh how the mighty have fallen!

United playing with seven defenders against a team that hasn't scored for over 8 hours!

Ground out result. And if we have to grind out top four and/or Europa League then so be it.

Carp about tactics or whatever but Mourinho knows it's a results business. With where we are in terms of fixtures and injuries, have to hope are players are not flogged to bits in the wearisome International break.

The only thing good about today was the 3 points and that funny 3rd goal.
Boro are the worst team we have played so far. They were proper at Old Trafford.
The old heads and older heads got us the result.

Carrick, Young, Valencia.

Lingard among the younger players kept his head.

Tired or not you go out and bust a gut for the club and supporters.

Good win after all the games lately. Thought Lingard was really good down the middle. Didn't like the defensive tactics at 2-0 and felt they put us under unnecessary pressure but then that was probably down to fatigue.

6th no more!

Poor tactics. The last 20-30 minutes were right there with Moyes' cross-show.

100% agree.

It just does not make any sense to me. Why would you give them the ball and invite them to attack? There was no way they were going to score. You want to go to back 5 sure, fair enough extra defender in the middle can help. But 4 central defenders to make it back 6 ???? What the feck?? No wonder they scored.

Did the business with a very depleted team can't complain too much.
Smalling should never play again
Surprised Lingard managed to score.
Enough said really, not looking forward to the internationals how boring :annoyed:

Smalling and Jones scare me, the way they play. United certainly needs at least one centre back. I prefer two new ones.

Bailly seemed very unsure a few times today and he caused Boro's goal with his feeble attempt at heading the ball out.

Rojo is growing on me.

Well, what more can one say about Tony V. Beast!
