PL L FA Premier League

Liverpool 3:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 16 December 2018

We've had these type of owners for quite some time, nothing new to it. Liverpools owners are hardly hardcore Liverpool supporters, they're businessmen as well.

Mourinho has spent a shitload in transfer fees, then there's the additional "free" signings of Alexis Sanchez and Ibrahimovic. Most money spent on wages in the league. He's had more than enough money to create "his team". I honestly fear for anyone who watches Manchester United play and think the issue is money spent, not tactics and what we're trying to achieve on the pitch.

Klopp took over Liverpool a season before Mourinho, insisted that the team plays a specific way, didn't always work due to some players being more limited at others, but there was a clear pattern of what he wanted to achieve, slowly they've been buying players that fit the pattern of football they aim to achieve and now he's pretty close to achieving it, he's built a side that looks like it can compete with a very strong Manchester City side.

Mourinho on the other hand has built nothing, he's busy complaining about lack of transfers because we didn't buy a new central defender to replace one of the two he's already signed. We've reverted to hoofing the ball up to a striker that's not even suited to that type of football. Whenever a player has the ball there's zero movement around him, there's no passing triangles so that the player with the ball always have two passing options.

The main problem is that Mourinho's ideas are outdated.
And you don’t think Woodward’s actions have played a massive role in these problems?

Toby fecking alderweireld isn't going to improve player movement on the pitch. It might fix our defence, but it's not the reason why Fellaini finishes the second half with a 33% pass completion

...and why the hell does Lukaku get to start games against Valencia and LFC?
We are playing with 10 men.
Exactly.. I have nothing against him personally, but he is certainly not the kind of striker we need at United. He is fecking useless at the level we should be aiming for, and Matic is much too slow for the same level. I am begining to t hink that Mourinho has lost his touch if he thinks either of those 2 make us a top team.

Mate, completely wrong. "Big 6" refers to the size of the club in which United are by far the biggest. Big 5 refers to the best teams of which United are currently not.
Leicester were never in the big 6 when they were Champions so people should never conflate "big" with "best"........totally diffetent argument.
Earle was saying we are playing with a small club mentality.

Good! He does it to our players all the time

He deserves to be hung out to dry he is a miserable self serving - club destroying - whinging defensive has been. I literally can’t wait for him to be sacked. The sooner we get a new manager the better. I think I’d enjoy a grenade sandwich more than listening to José self preservation bollocks! #Joseout

I can't blame you for these feelings, particularly after that game. I think it's worth acknowledging the less than ideal cards Jose has been dealt by the board and by certain players' gob-smacking loss of form (also arguably Jose's fault, I accept).

However Jose needs to take a sizeable share of the blame for what's gone wrong this season, and of course he should 100 percent go.

"Whoever has the ball, has the fear" - I'll never understand this part of Mourinho's philosophy.

Those deflected goals did not come out of nowhere. That's what tends to happen when you have 11 men in your own box.
He and his cult are going to claim it's unlucky but to the rest of the world it is kind of obvious: if you don't even try to play football and just wait in your own box for it to be over, then it's not going to go very well most of the time.

If the board has 1% dignity, Jose should feck off right now. But we all know they are just dumb feckers who know nothing about football.

Someone ask Jose about his tactics and what his thought process is on how he's going to improve our style of football

He couldn't answer. It's very clear he only knows one way. He's never evolved and will never do so now due to his personality.

Amazing how, despite not getting on the pitch, Souness is still criticisings pogba and his attitude

Don't feel sorry for him. He doesn't care when he sh*ts all over other people.

I agree, but in spite of myself it was just a very uncomfortable watch, one that made me feel sad and embarrassed rather than angry. He's incapable of turning this around and he knows it, yet he's got to go on telly pretending he can and will.

Not sure why everyone is continually attributing all our problems to Mourinho.

The players we have on the field are very poor. They have poor technique, both controlling the ball and moving it to where they want it to go. They have poor movement on and off the ball. The static play phenomenon has been going on for years pre-Mourinho. An MU team that is competitive will need a change of at least half the outfield players.

The board and the player acquisition/retention strategy is by far the biggest problem with MUFC today

Probably because he’s had 3 summers to shape this squad and it’s been a disaster.

In defence were 3 of his signings.

Lukaku cannot control a football and cost this club £75m.

His £90m star is sat on the bench whilst Fellaini who can’t pass a ball is meant to be our ball playing midfielder.

We have two youth players upfront who cost this club nothing whilst an array of player who cost this club millions sit on the bench. Fred who cost the club £50m can’t even make the fecking squad.

He is the reason this squad looks static, he has bought a load of tall, workmanlike players who have no flair or excitement in their play and we have been left behind the other top 6 clubs who do.

And you don’t think Woodward’s actions have played a massive role in these problems?

As i said, the fecker can't win anyway. If he signs the players that the manager wants, like the dross that Van Gaal signed for hundres of millions, he gets a feckload of shit for it. If he doesn't spend an absolute fortune on two players that Mourinho wants, overrated ones as well, he gets a feckload of shit for that as well. Doesn't matter what he does. We've spent almost £400mill under Mourinho and this is how he has us playing, there's also the two free transfers of Zlatan and Sanchez, insane wages, and the main problem seems to be that Woodward didn't sign Perisic and Toby. Good one.

Some people really need to sit down and watch and analysis of what we do when we have the ball.....

They are the problem number 1, but the Mourinho style of football is also a problem, and his relationship with players also a problem.
I don’t think I or Kyle Martino said at all that there aren’t other problems.

Actually, I watched Martino say this live and know that he mentioned Woodward’s running of the club in long statement about the problems plaguing us, which also included Mourinho and the players. The poster who mentioned the comment just mentioned the Woodward part of a long comment made by Martino.

@UncleBob - the above can apply to what you’re saying as well.

Thats so obviously his frcking fault though!

He’s consistently prioritised players of lesser talent like Fellaini, Matic, Young, Lukaku etc whilst the likes of Fred, Pereira, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Shaw etc are one by one forced to the sidelines. It’s not even just the squad selections but in the market aswell, look at the players we’ve signed and were linked with.

3-1 is a pretty decent result for us I think, should and could have been much worse. Would be nice though if we could step it up next game and maybe not look like a relegation side in everything from tactics to simple 5-yard passes, but maybe that's asking for too much from the best paid squad+manager in the game.

Even if Jose like he always says dosen't have the players he want to play his football even if this is true and he has what he wants can he ever play that style of play Klopp and Pep do? He is finished.

Only one team played proper football and only one team deserved to win, it was another pathetic display of cowardice from Mourinho, you can't tell me Everton have better players than us but their performance at Anfield the other week put our disgraceful effort to shame.

The fact he brought a third shithouse CM on at half time that can't pass a parcel sums him up in a nutshell.

Hey, at least we're still in the Champions League... but this is 15-16 level of boring.

Much worse that this? Their whole team had shots on target, we barley passed that midfield ffs. We can't get any positive thing out of this shit. He is a coward and need to go now.

We cannot field anyone highly competent at kicking a football with Martial, Mata, and Pogba on the bench.

This is worrisome in this particular sport.

36 shots to 6, tells you everything you need to know.

Shocking performance all round. Even if it had stayed 1-1 it was still awful. There seemed to be no game plan except to boot it up field and let Liverpool regain possession. Lukaku is about as much use as thumbs on a dog.

Worst ever Premier League season. Tanked at your bitterest rivals. Expensively assembled squad that have somehow become very significantly worse as his tenure has gone on.

Can someone tell me what needs to happen for Jose to be replaced?
When the profits decrease and the sponsorships start to dry up ....

Conversion rate on goal attempts and shots on goal much better than Liverpools though. Not all bad then.

There was a moment with Firmino in the 2nd half . We had something like 9 players all in the box and he was in the middle and still got a shot a way. It seems mourinhos whole approach to defending is to throw as many numbers as he can back there instead of an actual defensive shape. Not even the likes of Wolves and Bouremouth defend like that.
It seems to me the more numbers we have in there the more confusing it gets. People getting in each others way it's a fecking mess

The players have no ideas going forward.

Lukaku’s hold up play dire...

The team is obviously dejected and frustrated

Possibly the worst performance I've ever seen by a United side at Anfield and I've seen a few.

Hoof hoof hoof.....terrible to watch

I missed the game and thank god I did. I see the 36 shot stats but funnily enough after watching the highlights they were two very lucky deflections.

Not bothered about the score though, thought we'd lose by more.

We should have hired LVG for this match:D

So depressing.

Everton gave us much more of a game than this.

£15M a year the manager makes for putting us in this shit. I really want to know how that is done... get massive money for being shit at your job.
