Great 1st half . Not so good second .

This 11 should start the next game regardless of pogba and martial.

Blood and guts performance. Love it

For all the shit young was getting pre kick off, he was great defensively. Not great in possession, mind.

I think he had a very good game. He had Salah on a leash and was great with his defensive reading of the game. He didn't make too many runs forward but he had Rashford playing ahead of him to give their fullback nightmares so I think his contribution was excellent.

The all attacking, swashbuckling, the-world-has-never-seen-their-kind, all attacking team, led by the unbelievable scoring sensation, Mohammed Salah and managed by the greatest of all time, Jurgen Klopp, 1.

And the boring, ultra defensive, clueless-in-attack team, led by donkey Romelu Lukaku and managed by the dinosaur, way-past-it, defensive manager, Jose Mourinho, 2.

Jose out.

What a game, first half was flawless, that Mata chance would have been the icing on the cake but can't be too harsh. Game was over from that point, they had a lot of possession but their chance creation was nonexistent; only plan was to hit a long ball and hope Salah/Mane could run onto it. They looked very nervous first half and by the time they got going we were already 2-0 up.

Rashford was fired up in more than one way, that first goal was brilliant. Young kept Salah in his back pocket, McTominay was unfazed and a brick wall despite constantly being fouled. Smalling and Valencia were both solid and I know a lot of people will be livid with Bailly but OG aside he was fantastic as well (that turn was hilarious). Sanchez was poor, no denying that. Lukaku was brilliant again but lacked service in the 2nd half so quietened down a bit. Mata did really well too, kept it neat and tidy and almost scored goal of the season.

Great result. feck Liverpool.

Liverpool did all the talking before the match. So this feels sweet.

So...

Our first half exciting attacking guns blazing football is not because of our attacking coaches?

Liverpool can't score against us :D so much so we had to help them gain a goal for themselves.

Excellent first half, we held on nervy second half.

Jesus we're 12 points ahead of Chelsea!

Remember at Christmas people were convinced they were going to overtake us when we drew a couple in a row.

Yep, Chelsea needed us to drop points today to have a chance of overtaking us. They can however catch Liverpool.

Get that right up you Scousers! THAT was a Manchester United performance.

Did DDG was ever stretching today? Their only goal came from us scoring for them. We had everything totally in control. Perfect Mourinho masterclass.

Sorry I meant I hope it is just fitness related. Next year hopefully will be his season but for the CL I think Rash and Martial need to come to the fore and take some pressure off him.
Well he'll have time with team, this year he just got into the team directly and never got going.

If United can just ally that defensive organisation and steel to some more productive (counter) attacking football this can be a great United team. Rashford did brilliantly for both his goals, Lukaku linked well and provided a target, Sanchez showed a dogged determination and worked tirelessly but too often United broke up Liverpool attacks then failed to capitalise on it with some ponderous moves instead of hitting them where it hurts.
Can't argue with the result, though. Hung a bit too much at times in the second half and seemed to unwilling to get men forward for the third goal to kill the game off. Liverpool aren't suited to having a lot of possession and trying to play through teams, strength is in the speedy counter-attack and it was only really from set-pieces they looked dangerous today.
Young did well against Salah, has to be said. I was pleased to Bailly start today, although his OG was Jones-esque.
All in all, a very welcome win and three points. Hopefully another significant win to come in midweek.

Nice images of Pogba congratulating Mourinho. Almost made me cry!

Where was Salah?
Have you seen mane mane
Cant find firminio
They should have kept Couthinoooooooooooooo

Dodgy second half but not that dodgy.

Great win.

Rashford.

Lukaku did his job too.

That was a dodgy second half. This is Manchester United, AT HOME.... sorry, that cannot be the way forward. I love, love, love Man Utd, but I have expectations of a club of this size and history.

Liverpool with 68% of possession... now I don't get too overwhelmed by stats, possession stats etc... and i appreciate the defensive mentality (six goals at home all season? Is that correct? That's outstanding...)

But we need to be able to dominate and look after teams, through our talent, strategy and ability. That's a Man United tradition, and I don't want to be satisfied with backs to the wall performances, especially at home.

Yes, very professional in some ways, and Rashford was superb. But we have to address how we play, better, and with more consistency.

Some terrific performances there today. Young was an inspiration.

To all people who complain that we sat behind too deep after scoring two goals, that we were too defensive ...haven't you lot watched Mourinho ever before?
That's how the guy manages, score goals and then sit deep, he's a pragmatic manager. So there is no use asking this same question again and again after every single game we sit behind after scoring; that is what Mourinho does

I never moved an inch all match - Liverpool didn't threaten at all! You expect nerves and tension, but even in that second half Liverpool were never scoring. Did they even have a shot?

Defensively we were totally solid, but their lack of width made it easy. Bailly and Smalling looked great, but they often do when our teams priority is defend. Still, enjoyed Bailly's front foot defending, it makes a big difference.

Didn't do a whole lot going forward, but I didn't expect we would. Rashford took his chances well, Mata should've scored. Sanchez and Lukaku worked hard, as did the midfield.

Delighted to win, puts real daylight between us and Chelsea and probably guarantees us top 4, and probably 2nd. But it's another game where I haven't really watched us play any football.. I feel like I just spent 90 minutes watching Liverpool play average football, and we weren't all that involved.. I dunno, it definitely takes the edge off the enjoyment for me. I love the result, I didn't really enjoy watching us.

Souness is a bitter auld tramp. Liverpool were not on top whatsoever, just because they had most of the possession doesn’t make that so. They had nearly 3 times as many attempts on goal but how many saves did De Gea have to save. They couldn’t break through our defence!

Sourness looks like he's either going to burst into tears or wet his pants. Love it. Bitter twat.

Thought Sanchez was almost better in the second half. Never quite managed to make any of those breaks stick - losing Rashford as an option hurt him in that sense, since 'releasing' Fellaini just means sending him up the pitch to lose the ball - but his twisting and turning and incredible strength when shielding the ball meant we managed to maintain some kind of outlet when Liverpool were piling on the pressure.
Sánchez was much better since going to the left, although he seemed to be complaining about closing the wing.

Vintage Mourinho. Defensive, yes, but not passive. And with the efficient finishing up front to make it work. Not much tippy tappy football but lots of performances to enjoy.

YES! Mourinho absolutely spanked Klopp tactically. If it werent for the OG we would've eased through the second half. Those last few minutes were tense as hell but we came through.

Loved that victory. Reminded me of the Juve win over Spurs the other day.

Jose too cute, too calculated for Jurgen. Tactical masterclass, guts and courage galore in defence. Liverpool never really got close unless we let them through our own mistakes. DDG had a very quiet game.

Gets Klopp bitter.

Perfect.

Good win, just deperately need to somehow coach some composure towards the end of matches. We have so much difficulty taking a moment, putting our foot on the ball and just keeping it.

Madrid midweek were absolutely chill as f*ck against PSG, showed so much class. That's the level we aspire to.

Still, wonderful win and Rashford's first is absolutely world class. Happy weekend all!

Agree, and with all the pundits praising worshipping Liverpool, totally undermining us.

Sweet, sweet victory.
They asked for it. Liverpool were actually behind us in the table before the match, yet the way they talked you'd think they lead us by 10 points.

Must say I expected better from Souness - keeps making digs about our style of play whereas Carra says it like it is

That was brilliant first-half performance, probably best 45 minutes under Mourinho. Made it a bit hard in the second half, but overall De Gea should have the lowest ranking in the team which says it all.

Tara Liverpool, enjoy the fight for top 4.

Though Bailly's mistake for the OG was atrocious. Like Phil Jones against City, he went for the ball with the wrong foot. But, our defence looks so much better with him in it. He really is a class above anything we have at centre-half. Keeping him fit and finding him a reliable partner is essential going forward.

Thought we were great in the first half. Would have liked to see us continue in the same vein the second but it's hard to argue with Mourinho when we come away with the three points.

So good to beat Liverpool. No matter where we are in the table, no mater what's to play for, it's always great to get a win over them.

I knew we were winning this, did De Gea have a save to make? I had 40 on us at 7/4 and a straight 50 bet with a mate of mine. Good start to the day, now lets win the rugby :)

Young was absolutely brilliant. In a match where we had many players play extremely well, he stood above everyone as the easy MOM.

Smalling and Bailly were both fantastic. Going forward this should hopefully be our defensive partnership. When they play to their ability they are comfortably our best two central defenders. It does push Smalling to the left where he perhaps isn't quite as comfortable, but he did fine tonight.

Lukaku was close to perfect in the first half. Didn't get on the score sheet himself, but he absolutely bullied Lovren and created most of our best chances. The only problem was that in the second half he drifted out of the game a bit and wasn't able to hold the ball up as well.

McTominay was fantastic in his role. Shut down numerous attacks and there were even two situations late on where he strode forward with the ball into attacking areas to take some pressure off us.

Rashford's general play was quite good although not at the level of the above players, but the two goals

Rash Motm for sure with Young as close second. DDG felt unsure today i got to say!
