EL L Europa League Round of 16 1st Leg

Liverpool 2:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Thu, 10 March 2016

Expected us to lose and we lost. What else is there to say? De Gea, again, looked world class. Its going to be sad when he gets sick of fighting for sixth place and finally goes back to Spain...

...at least when it happens we can cling to the moral victory of standing by our managers, eh? Even as they dragged us down the gutter.

There was me thinking moral victories were something for City and the Scousers. Guess I "live in the past"?

Things that are grim:

1. Liverpool beating us.
2. Liverpool deserving to beat us.
3. The time we've wasted on LVG.
4. The time we'll likely still waste on LVG.
5. Our best player likely leaving in the summer.
6. Our remaining players being what our remaining players are.
7. Hillsborough chants from the dickhead section of our fanbase.
8. Another leg of this shite to come.

We don't even look like a team. Not even sure what VG was trying to do. Whatever it was, it was proper aids. Nothing else to say really..

Pathetic from start to finish, no chance of progressing now. Fully expect to be dumped out of the fa cup by West Ham and then just counting down the games until LVG is sacked.

If only the board had acted when they should have done.

Liverpool were so much better than us, and to be honest, probably finally got the result their Anfield performances against us in recent years has deserved. Games at Anfield are often like that, but we have been managing to win them for years.

Once again waiting until a game was done to make positive changes.

Our season will be done by this time next week and if LVG is here next season we'll have to get used to it.

Worst performance from a United team in recent memory. I am genuinely ashamed of the players and the club as a whole after that utter disgrace.

This charlatan has simply got to go.

Spineless, bollockless, cowardly display from the team.

No game plan.

Mata waste of space.

Martial knackered from playing all season.

DDG a hero really.

Carrick shit as they come, new contract my arse.

Fellaini can't even win headers vs Moreno.

Memphis a fraud, doesn't even track back for their second goal.

Schneiderlin shite as usual.

No good senior RB, the one we bought from Italy is shite.

Blind at CB when it's clear it's not working all season.

Game plan seems to be a 1-0 with a set piece goal, therefore we go for short passes for all set pieces.

1 shot on target.

No corners.

He'll still be in the job come Saturday though.

Back to page one, DDG saves us, to be fair it could've been fecking 5-0 tonight and we wouldn't be able to complain.

The masterstroke of tonight though is that Carrick sub. I mean what the feck. Outplayed in midfield, he notices it, fine, brings CM on, great, actually fecking tells him to play as a 3rd central defender, shuffles everything around and yea, we don't look that bad as we did in the first half but it's still fecking completly idiotic change. Then Carrick gives the ball away and it's 2-0.

Then you've got shit like Fellaini playing full 90 despite coming back off an injury, idiotic tactics such as chasing Cuntinho and Vermino (thanks @GifLord, that's a great nickname for him) by our fullbacks all over the pitch opening hotpockets of space all over the flanks and so on.

LVG's an inept, out of depth idiotic cnut who's destroying this club. I somewhat hope that this shit will finally end once we lost to WHU because there'll be nothing to play for anymore. Out of EL, out of FA and hopeless in the league.

Even still with that tepid performance, it was never a pen and Henderson was offside in the build to to the 2nd.

There's Van Gaal excuse.

Scholes just called it. Shambles.

LVG, and several of these players, out.

Jose in now please.

Poor in every single way. Not one saving grace.

It's pretty clear that every aspect of us needs improving.

Tonight also laughed in the face of those that said we're preparing to be good at possession football.

Despite the loss, I thought we made some excellent, patient passes among the backline in those last 5 minutes. Credit to the lads for that. It's a hostile atmosphere, against a team brimming with confidence because of the 2 goal lead in a knockout European tie, but our players still had the bravery to try and keep possession at the end.

Some games people say "Oh but you can't blame Van Gaal for how the players peform" or "This ones on the players, not Van Gaal" ... and sometimes that's spot on...

Not tonight though, tonight that is ENTIRELY on Van Gaal. He got absolutely everything wrong and facilitated this joke of a performance.

It was the exact same as the Arsenal result. An absolute shambles tactically.

Remember when he first came here everyone thought he was some wise, old tactician? yeah.. not a chance.

Just another day of LVG captaining the Manchester United airship...

Well, we were shit as expected.

Only at Manchester United could such an inept manager last this long. We will NEVER be a top club again unless we refuse to accept abject mediocrity

Not overly distraught. This competition was always a long shot and it looks over now. Got to get fourth or he's just taken a longer way of leaving us where Moyes did.

We are not getting fourth. I think West Ham and Liverpool will finish above us and we'll probably scrape to finish a few points ahead of Chelsea.

Beginning to consider voting Phil Jones as my player of the season. The single highlight has been him injuring enough of the established players for us to see a few glimpses of talent in the younger lads called up.

Literally only one player was trying tonight.

The outfield players showed no heart and were just flat out shit. This liverpool squad is fecking dire and we got completely out played by them.

Rojo -- not good enough, as CB or LB.
Carrick -- he's finished.
Fellaini -- one of the worst players in this club's history.
Mata -- goes missing, has never had the impact here you'd have expected.
Memphis -- in no way consistent, good in three or four games, terrible in the rest.
Martial -- very good first season, looks tired lately.
Schneiderlin -- huge questions surrounding his ability.
Rooney -- ala Carrick.

The squad is terrible and van Gaal needs sacking.

This.

I completely forgot Mata was on this pitch until the 66 minute.

I'm shocked that playing Fellaini for 90 minutes, subbing on 3 different MCs and taking off 2 of 4 attackers didn't result in a goal being scored. Really thought LvG had this laid out this time.

You're lucky it was only 2. DDG is a genius.

I find that entirely believable but we wait and see (because it seems quite likely there's a clause in our man's contract that means we have to unless we want to give him lots of money to go away).

Klopp was the difference tonight.

That was a game about two sets of tactics

Amazing how people are still positive we'll win at Old Trafford.

Like, really? Did you not just watch 90 minutes of utter shite with no game plan?

Some very gutless displays today. Van Gaal obviously needs to go, but there's a complete lack of leadership among the players as well. Looks like a team full of cowards. One thing United always used to have was mentally tough winners, well those days seem long gone.

For the second time at Anfielf this season
