Manchester United 2:2 Leeds United

Post-match discussion

Ten Hag could have been bold and changed it before half time. Certainly should have changed it before we came out for the second half

Mate I fecking feel like the old man in here with a bunch of spoiled fecking teenagers who bitch and moan at absolutely everything.
No respect, I tells ya. Not proper respect, like the old days. These kids with their shiny teeth have nothing to go on about! Now, when we were young. That was something, eh? Remember how we bitched and moaned about proper things? I forget, but those were hard times. Serious times.

We missed AWB tonight they got so much joy down that left. Dalot is one of these modern wing backs that are great at crossing but get exposed as a defender.

Weghorst is alsoway out of his depth here

Front three should now be Sancho, Antony and Rashford when Sancho is ready to be starting regularly.

Rashford has become enough of a threat from CF now. And Weghorst can be what he should be, a plan B. And I don't mean that as an insult.

Good comeback considering. Thought we looked tired at times and Leeds were full of intensity and their 2 CM put in a real shift. Fred needs to be sold in the summer.

This is what happens when fred starts, he may look good in his 20 minute sub cameos but we have seen how dreadful him and mctominay are as starters for years, not all his fault as others had stinkers but it was night and day between him and casemiro

It’s a poor result and a lot went badly tonight, but it’s not a disaster by any means and there are positives to take away from that. We showed a lot of determination to come back from 2 goals down to get the draw, I would have certainly taken that if offered when we conceded the second. Also Sancho was great when he came off the bench, hopefully he starts at the weekend.

Really hope Martial is back soon. We can't expect much more out of Wegy than being another number.

At least Sancho is back though looming promising.

Hope Anthony is back soon too, he's missing a few games here and there.

Thoughts:

13 wins at home had to come to an end at some point

Disappointing not to win but you’d take a point when 2-0 down after an hour.

Worrying amount of injuries/suspensions building up.

People saying we’re nothing without Casemiro but we’re also missing Antony & Eriksen - and it was Sabitzer’s full debut. Basically the only player EtH has bought who started tonight was Martinez

Definitely felt like an Ole team out there tonight, completely lacked organisation and discipline in that first half.

Pulled it together for the last third which brought the two goals. Looked way more dangerous in attack with Sancho in there, Pellestri gave some balance on the right too.

The midfield was a nightmare though. Sabitzer did ok but Fred was a chaotic mess, did more damage for Leeds than he did for us. The defence completely exposed at times, and had so little options open to them when passing it out.

The erratic nature of the game played into Leeds' hands. They're a team made up of energetic press machines, we just didn't have the calm heads to pass it through them. Casemiro and Eriksen in there and we shred them, I think.

Jesus, I know the result wasn't what we wanted, but if you can't enjoy a game like that why even bother?

Proper derby stuff.

Agreed. At 2-0 we did great to come back. 30 attempts we had in that match to their 8. Missing players and games every 3 days and yet we still refuse to lose.

Shows that its Casemiro and Eriksen that have made the biggest difference and we need to buy 2 understudies for them in the summer. Fred needs fecking off in the summer with Mctominey.

Thoroughly enjoyable game of football, thought varane and martinez played really well in their own ways, and a great header from Rashy. Great to see sancho back and running at defenders and putting in some great cutbacks. Clearly Ww isn't up to the standard required, and that midfield lacks someone who can sit as a DM.

No need for the toxic meltdowns, you'd think we're on a 5 game losing streak.

You lost me at Martial and 'sorely missed'

The guy can't stay fit and when he plays he's lazy.
I thought he had quite a number of good games this season, just like the manager said recently, even while not being fully fit. He does look low on confidence for sure. So it's more the fit and confident Martial we're sorely missing. Sancho only just came back from the void, maybe Martial can do the same.

Rashford should always start on the left, not pushed to his weaker side to accommodate a youth player we are trying to get to sign a contract. He would have put at least one of those chances away that Garnacho had.

Weghorst ain't very good really is he? Waste of a January signing. Sure we could have got better.

Terrible result on paper but considering the position we put ourselves in, I'm not as disappointed as other dropped points this season.
To be fair to Fred, he needs a settled DM beside him so he's always going to struggle if we lack structure. Casemiro a massive loss as usual. Delighted for Sancho.
Put it behind us and move forward.

Great for Sancho to get a goal and play well.
Game was lost in midfield. Their first goal came from no one showing for it to help us play out and then Fred doesn’t get close enough to Gnonto on the 1 2.
De Jong would be great in helping us to play out from the back. We couldn’t get out of our own half in the first 10 or 15 minutes.
Disappointing not to get the win after equalizing with plenty of time left.

He hasn't completed back to back 90 minute games since 2021.

He hasn't even completed 90 minutes for us this season and has only played in 14 games.

discussed it earlier in the match thread that leeds were vulnerable with their CB's and that we should start Rashford at the 9.....should have been Garnacho, Rashford and Sancho as the front three. Granted, this was before learning about Sancho being ill this week leading up to the match.

Reality check game maybe….a couple of starters missing and we’re struggling? The depth of the squad needs addressing.

Positives points are we probably would have lost this at 0:2 last season.

I loved it!

Yeah United made mistakes, a few key players missing in midfield made it difficult for United to play their usual style...but it was pure excitement!

Second leg at the weekend.

You need to try and enjoy watching the team...far to many worry about who is to blame or what the xG was...just enjoy the ride.

Everything Fred touched turn to shit, terrible performance. It shows how much we need Casemiro and Eriksen in the middle, they completely transform the way we play. Points dropped. We really need to beat them at the weekend now.

Can't be unhappy with a point considering the performance and the ragtag XI that finished the game with injuries/suspension really stretching the squad. Focusing on the positives - there is a great team spirit and we maintained this unbeaten home run.

We seem to always attract players who are prone to missing games. Aside from everything else, Sancho has been ill 4 times at least since he joined. Feels too much and AwB was out for the same reason.

Bit over dramatic. Leeds played like it was their final. It happens all the time. Ask Arsenal how Everton were. We were playing with a load of back up players, players just coming back from injury, players new to the league and players out of their best position. To fight back to 2-2 was a good job.
Its easy to signal out Fred but again we have seen it a million times. Overrun our midfield and we struggle. They had a 2 thats has played together since they were 12 and Harrison who is super defensive. Fred was poor but he tried.
Positives are the fight to get a draw, Sancho and Pellestri did well. Sabitzer was ok. And Rashford with a header. On to the next game

That stupid red card.. Feck off.
Fred is really an enigma, plays like an actual top quality player for 2-3 games a season, other than that, he plays like tonight. You know things are bad when you start thinking if maybe Lindelöf should start in midfield at the weekend.
Weghorst, how did he end up here? Would he be here if he had a different nationality? We will never know. He is the slowest player on the pitch, poor in the air, half decent with his feet. Feels like a nobrainer to start Rashford there next game.

Sancho is a long way from top form but still has moments where he just oozes class, so easy on the eyes.

Overall great fight from the team, 2 goals down is a very difficult situation.

I thought Fernandes was excellent, especially from a work rate perspective. His work often goes under the radar but he’s a great team player.

Leeds played their game of the season tonight, was gave away two stupid goals and did well to rescue a point. All focus has to be on beating them at the weekend now - drop points again and we’ll be looking over our shoulder rather than up the table.

Weghorst offered nothing.

Dalot defensive were terrible. Our right side was too exposed compared to Shaw on the left. We really missed AWB there.

Bruno should have scored with the chances he was getting.

Fred was shocking, shocking,.....

Sancho is back! Finally.

I liked the heart the team showed today.

Must do better though, we had zero control at times.

It was frantic, feel like I played myself.

It's feels good to give a shit again, apathy sucked the life out of me.

Would have taken a point after 50 minutes but gutted at the full time whistle.
Negatives
Our midfield was an issue all game. I think Mctominay will be an addition for Sunday if fit, he's the closest we have to someone being able to play 6 and hold the middle.
We've an issue with our walls defending free kicks, palace away and for aaronson's tonight they were poor.
Rashford can't ever play on the right again!
Positives
Plenty fight all game. Martinez is a little bull.
Sancho looked very good. The way he plays with the little give and go's, he could strike a great partnership with Shaw

Onto sunday

Well said, fed up of everyone looking for someone to blame.

Misserable lot some of these.

That game was open because of Fred.
His positioning was off all night and he left the backline way more exposed than they should have been. Add the fact that Dalot's lack of match sharpness was in play, that really hurt us.

The fact of the matter is that Sabitzer on the ball was good. He also positioned himself as well as possible. However, in a one man midfield that was this game at times, the midfield is going to be open.

I don't think this was as much about Casemiro as has been made out to be. Leeds were very good at pressing us hard and that would have happened with Casemiro as well. However, Fred providing them with the space to attack after the press led to the fragmented periods of the game that led to the goals.

He needs to be our 4th choice CM because his performances can vary drastically.

In saying that, I actually think today really showed how strong we are as a team. There were massive positives to draw upon that can be clear signs for the future of our team.

1. Sancho - He was brilliant when he came on. His passes from that wide position were just insanely penetrative. He might not blow teams away with pace, but if we can get him in and around that final third often enough, he will completely change the dynamic of our attack.

2. Striker position - I know we've had this discussion a lot over the years, but what if Rashford is actually ready to take on that role right now. He's improved so much this season, especially in regard to his balance on the ball. He's never going to be a hold up threat, but his balance, his positioning and finishing have improved enough for this to be a genuine question.

3. Pellestri keeps proving time and time again that he can be a good option for us.

4. Our resilience - We were 2-0 down and despite this, there was a sense that we could get back in it. We have had this resilience under other managers, but not because of having the knowledge that keeping our style of play and continuing to chug away would be the source of the comeback. This wasn't individual brialliance. It was a clear and consistent team effort.

The premier league is well known for teams dropping points when least expected. We did well to make that comeback. Bruno's chances created were great, Rashford came alive in the end, Sancho made great impact. Shaw feels like a playmaker at times. Martinez leagues above everyone. Leagues.

Our depth is extremely questionable, we should purposely drop one competition. The FA or sth. Europa if it gets really bad because for me top 4 is more important.

With proper signings next season we'll be somewhere substantial.

Proud of the fight to get a point after starting both halves so terribly. We completely controlled the game, but struggled to create quality chances. Their only chances were gifts, usually from Fred but occasionally from Bruno and Dalot as well.

Bruno tried hard but struggled, Rashford wasn't really in the game that much, apart from a brilliant header for his goal, and Fred was awful.

One win in Last 4 league games.

Enough said... Tricky times

It's a huge issue for us to have both Martial and Sancho missing at a vital time of the season with playing every 3 days.....Martial has been MIA for the past year it feels like

We need both these guys to be fit and healthy if we want to challenge for the top 4 and maybe winning one of the two cups
