FA W FA Cup Quarter-Final

Manchester United 3:1 Fulham

Post-match discussion

Sun, 19 March 2023

Well I have to admit I am glad I decided to watch the second half - I enjoyed that

Heavy legs and injuries are starting to show in these last few performances. Lads need a bit of a break and we need to get Martial, Eriksen and Scott more fit just to give us a few rotation options. Sucks though with Garnacho hurt and out for 6 weeks.

Can’t believe some of the drivel I’m reading here.

Yes it was a poor performance but we were missing Varane, Casemiro, Eriksen, Martial, Garnacho. The first three in particular at the main part of the teams spine.

I genuinely don’t think some of you appreciate that this is still predominantly the squad we had last year and Ten Hag has been at the club months, not years.

International break has come at the right time. Players are tired and we have too many key ones missing. Get them back and let’s finish the season on a high.

We REALLY need Eriksen back to tide us over until Casemiro is available. Every time both are missing we literally have no midfield.

Case will be back before Eriksen is even able to play for the first team again. And eventhen we shouldn’t expect to much from him until May.

He’s back in April according to Ten Hag himself. Well ahead of schedule.

He said post international break.

So weird of a match that was.

I railed against McTominay, Maguire, and Sancho with good reason for chunks of the match. But it wasn't for Sancho missing that golden opportunity after he ran around the Fulham goalkeeper, we would not have seen what has to be the biggest feck-up I have seen in a long time. The handball foul and the penalty were worth one legit red card, but I'm still       at Fulham for turning one red card into 3 red cards. LOLCOW OF THE DECADE!! I will take the W any day of the week, especially after how many matches we played in recent weeks. UrinatingTree's laugh sums it all for me about Fulham on that incident.

Really happy for Sabitzer after that winning goal. He deserves all of it for his hard work alongside a midfield black hole (McTominay).

what the hell is going on

Wait, ManUtd app shows Brighton FA cup game Saturday after we play Sevilla on that Thursday?! Surely they’ll move it to Sunday?

Agreed but someone asked me on here a while back and it was a good point

name any club apart from City that have better options on their bench

That's the bar though isn't it?

Arsenal have been lucky enough to interms of injuries or suspensions to their first choice midfield options

We need to decide if we are keeping Sabitzer

Between Scott and Fred, only one can stay

A new CM

Cover for Casemiro

A striker, we need one with Martial here, are we going to need 2 or MG will be allowed back?

A decision on Harry and Lindelof, are we letting both leave? Then we need a replacement for the right side of defence

Shaw can cover Martinez on the left so that side is not pressing at the moment

The above is why I say we need a big summer window but it's obvious it won't be like that

Get in there.

Absolute bonkers from Willians handball onwards. Leno should get banned as well. Mitrovic should be looking at a pretty hefty ban.

Two genuinely world class saves from Dave today

All the fulham coaching staff should have received red cards too for coming on the pitch

Thank feck for the international break for once,we need a time out to regather ourselves.

It depends how much fitness he's lost with the injury. Ten Hag was talking like he's not far off and doesn'tseem the type to play peppke who aren't ready.

If we're without both him and Casemiro for 3 games we're in trouble as based on how we play without them we'll be lucky to win a single one.

Mctominay and Sabitzer is a combination I never want to see again. It needs to be Fred and one or the other. At least with Fred there's a chance he might be useful.

I think they were genuinely worried Mitrovic was going to knock the ref out to be fair. What an unbelievable tit.

He'll have the "you can't set that example to children" brigade out for him now and will probably end up with a longer ban, which is amusing as he was behaving like a dick all game.

We were awful today (bar DeGea) but for all the cheating and thuggery Fulham tried on I think we deserved the win.
Mitrovic always a thug, Silva always yapping about something, attempting to rake up the penalty spot and endless time wasting when they were Infront.
Infact, anyone caught trying to damage the penalty spot should be an instant red card.

Yes. Literally like a drowning swimmer finally getting their feet on the sand close to shore. Hopefully the likes of Bruno doesn't have a significant international to play. Nice nick!

Pure luck but we'll take it. Cheers Fulham

That performance was always happening without Casemiro and Eriksen, we morph back into last season's team without them every single time, but we got away with it today thankfully.

Can't believe they raged like that and basically rage quit.
Clearest handball and red card you'll see all season.

I mean.... Just wow.

Totally gifted the tie by Fulham. Couldn't see us getting back into it before they hit self-destruct.

What are you talking about?

Sancho scores and we are “back into it”?

People are talking like we only stayed in the cup because they were down to 9 men. They cheated us out of a goal and then went mental

The crazy thing is we've played two games a week for just under three months without a pause.

What's crazier is we're about to have to do it for another two whole months if we beat Sevilla...

Not really
Chelsea spent 600m in Jan
City as we know are also oil rich

Mate, we were utter dogshite up until Fulham fecked it in the build up to the Sancho chance, and then everything that happened after.

We took advantage and we're clinical afterwards - ultimately deserved to go through, but the amount of posters trying to pretend the match was anything other than a pisspoor showing up until then is bewildering.

We were gifted this tie by Fulham. Will take it but not going to pretend it was anything else. Sure Ten Hag knows it too.

Battling performance. Out on our feet but getting the job done.
There’s now a clear difference between our EL performances and our league performances and that’s due to EL games having a 4 day buffer with the domestic games having a 3 day turnaround.

Na, Sancho had a nailed on equaliser taken away from him and who knew what what happen after that. If we realised their heads would have went as their temperament showed after the pen. Games last 90 minutes and we were well back into it before the end.

Some absolute fecking melts in this thread. People complaining that we didn't steamroller a team just outside the European places in the prem, in a quarter final, when our first choice midfield is unavailable, two of our starting line up are loan deals brought in at Xmas, and we've played every midweek since Christmas.

I guess maybe some people are too young to remember some of the seasons under Fergie when we literally ground out league titles at this time of the season. I hate to say it, but this is how it's gonna be until the end of the season, so enjoy the win and forget about the circumstances it came in. Madness to expect commanding performances and comfortable wins at this stage of proceedings.

We had half a team missing three days after playing away in Spain. This is the time of year when you just have to grind out results.

We got ourselves back in the game. End of story.

It's less about the large sums we should be spending but rather the fit for what the manager wants to do

Chelsea have bought in hope more than by design

Even with willians red and pk, i still think we were So poor that Fulham would’ve kept the score 1-1 till the end. Brainless by mitrovic. They still could’ve done a smash and grab.

The break is badly needed, some of our lads were running on empty towards the end. Fulham played very well and compared to them in the first half we looked weary; Im not really sure what match ETH was referring to when he said we played well! I do believe that, in time, we would have scored and won, but the Fulham managers totally unwarranted melt down, along with Mitrovic's assault on the ref, was very welcome lol! Properly rested and with the return of Casemiro and Varane, and maybe Eriksen, we should defeat Brighton and then face, in all probability, City in the final.

Just read through the match day thread for those 3 minutes :wenger:

Why are people streaming a game that’s on ITV? Some people were still saying the pen won’t be given when it was 1-1
