EL L Europa League Group A

Feyenoord 1:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I wish all the people who say we shouldn't be in this competition would just feck off. As if being in the Champions league is miraculously going to transform this team into world beaters??

If we'd have turned Feyenoord over 4-0, I'd be the first to say we shouldn't be in this competition but we couldn't even put up a fight against them. We're where we are because we deserve to be. How being in the Champions League makes any difference is just dumb.

Schneiderlin??? Why so deep? Seriously such a waste of time. No pace in the team either. We really need another clearout come January. At least Pogba was trying but just surrounded by crap.

Secondly for all the drones who continue to elevate Smalling to god-like status really need a reality check. A very poor showing today from nearly all the team.

Thankfully still early days for Jose to sort things out.

Are you some sort of new fan? Were you not around for most of Moyes or Van Gaal's spells?
Were you not around when we lost 5-0 to Newcastle, 6-3 to Southampton, 6-1 v City etc?

I'll say it again, woeful hyperbole (unless you are a new fan)

So I name games under Fergie and you ask if I saw the Moyes and LVG reigns?

Feck me I even just listed a game that was under LVG :lol:

At the end of the day, I think these last two matches must have made Jose realise he has his work cut out. There is such a post Fergie disease, it's as if that guy had some sort of psychic power over middle of the road players to gel them into a winning minded team. It's early days for him, but shite on a stick, it's going to take the very best of him to turn this team into the same force that pretty much all Fergusons had. What was it about that guy!!

So half of the outfield players. Really worrying stuff, to be honest. Nonetheless, I really hope that Jose will turn it around.
Needs our support to turn it around. No bed wetting this early in proceedings as it will add further pressure to him and the team - which we definitely don't need.

Horrible horrible game. First game since i joined the caf i won't vote for my man of the match. There was none

A genius:cool:

Why is everybody on about the fouls and offside goals? We were dire no amount of poor refereeing can cover up for that.
2 Matches on the trot we have lost now. To those saying this match doesn't matter because EL, it mightn't have mattered if we hadn't lost to City but 2 consecutive losses is never good. We now need to beat Watford big style.

A completely unacceptable performance. I can take being beaten, but our players didn't look bothered.

Martials form is now very worrying.

Absolutely shocking performance, this has me worried about our season. What did Mourinho have to say after?

Edit: just saw the interview, he seriously can't be happy with that? We played well in the 2nd half? No we didn't Jose.

Without Valencia's crossing and Rashford running at the defense, this team cannot create shite if their lives depended on it. Get used to seeing more of this shite during the season. We have some so called creative players in the team, but I have seen better creativity from players in the local park.

I'm not bothered about the Europa League in general but I still expect the players to make some kind of effort. Players like Rojo and Smalling should be doing their best to fight their way into our first team. Instead we get outplayed by a very poor team.

How many of tonight's lineup will start on Sunday?

I'd say at tops 5

All of those players will feature throughout the league campaign. That was a good team that was out on the pitch but most of them looked like they didn't give a flying feck.

in fairness, I only glazed over a couple of your posts.
And we're arguing about the shade of turd of that last performance, so let's just agree it was turd

Not surprising. Completely new team with some players having played zero football prior to this.

Not too down about it. We will improve and gel as a team. It will take time however.

Still think Mikhitaryan is key to us playing on the counter effectively. He has got to be in the team once back from injury.
Playing on the counter? We never do that.

This work in progress. Transition. Or whatever you want to call it. I don't buy any of this.
MCFC, Chelsea and MUFC - all teams got new managers at the same time.
And we have just lost 2 matches in a row.

We have a Galatico class manager, so there is no excuse for losing 2 games in a row.

We've just added a new centre back, midfielder and CF which is actually a spine of a team.

I look at it as, better then 3 seasons ago and better than last season.

Atlest I didn't fall asleep. I actuality did last season...and I wasn't pissed.

Feyenoord are some rough-housing cnuts, the linesman needs a talking to about what off-side is, and we need to dare to press the opposition in their own half.

Also, it's starting to look like Pogba is far too big-headed... needs to play as if he's part of a team. Was he like this in Juve, too?

Lastly, I never want to see Rojo play for us again... Christ.
Rojo was a ridiculously poor signing. From what I gather he was purchased because...

- There was no one else available
- He is a left footed CB (fecking LVG)
- He was in the World Cup final squad for Argentina

Everyone and their dog knows Argentina have never been great at producing quality defenders. Who in the world scouted him?! I don't watch much Portuguese football but the few times I have see him play, he was bang average; bang average in the Portuguese league.

How much is he on? 80-90k a week? Shocking.

I know it's early days, but I am worried. We had a very good team out there today, but not for one minute did we play like a team. There was no discernable plan, we don't press, we can't pass, we don't have a good shape, we looked like a pub team & that can only be down to the manager. It also doesn't say well of Mourinho that he couldn't extract a good performance from the team after a derby defeat.

I think Jose coming out before the game saying "we do not want to be in the Europa League" really got the players hyped up and in the right mentality to perform.

True.
Everything about the Europa just feels like turd though doesn't it. Time of week, kick off time, opponents, mixing up the lineup.

Certainly happy to move on for the weekend. Need to be on it for then though, as 3 games without a win starts to become a real problem.

Mourinho interview

Key Points:
- Second half had more intensity than first.
- Thought we were in control, trying to win, while they were trying not to lose
- Goal was offside
- Not blaming players, some of them were playing first few minutes of the season
- Valencia and Shaw back for Watford

AGAIN we got beat by a poor team ?? Maybe we should realize we not that good anymore ?? United payes more for Pogba then Feyenoord for her entire selection .

I don't think so. The performance was very poor, but we won't perform that bad on Sunday, considering how many changes will be made to the team. This just told me that our (mostly) second-string team can't win away to decent teams in Europe - that's how it would be with most clubs, in fairness.

---------------------------------------

I do think there is a big overreaction in this thread. We played Man City 5 days ago, in which Mourinho would have played more or less our strongest team possible. He made 8 changes out of 10 outfield players today, so it obviously wasn't our best side. I think most CL teams would struggle away to Feyenoord if they put out a side that had 8 changes from their squad on the weekend, assuming they weren't resting players (like Barca, for example).

That's a fair point but this is a side that brought in players like Herrera, Schneiderlin, Rashford, Darmian and Smalling who people have been crying out for starting places in the United team. They're not bit part players. They should have stepped up and took their chance to make an impression on the game. That team, regardless of the 8 changes was still good enough to beat Feyenoord.

But I agree, it is a bit of an over-reaction and will be like that for a while I guess.

I think the main thing this game has shown us is there's a real good chance a lot of our squad players aren't as good as we thought they were. A few injuries and all of a sudden our squad won't look all that strong.
