Why did he say that about Micky? He certainly was not the issue tonight

Yeah, that's fecking insane. He's lost it. I'm honestly in shock that he would say that about another human, never mind one of his own players, and never mind a guy that played about 20 minutes!

Maybe he's trying to fire him up to get better performances for him, but what he may think is a tool to motivate Mkhi can also be taken as blame deflection

He said he must do more. What a crazy thing to tell to another human.

Only managed to catch most of the first half. Pleased that we managed a goal. That could end up making a massive difference for next match. The results doesn't have to be a big deal. Zorya aren't pushovers and can take points from Fenerbahce and Feyenoord are even worse at scoring than us.

Well, that was a terrible performance... played like they didn't give a damn in truth.
There's a couple of things that have struck me about this Utd team and they have been echoed here previously, but anyway.
This is what I have noticed when teams sit solid and compact against us

1) Lack of full backs that can actually defend and be an attacking threat, overlap, decent crosses, etc.
2) Lack of any actual wide players that can beat a man regularly, put a decent cross in and even the ability keep the ball at times.
3) Rashford isn't good enough to play has a winger for us. CF or nothing but the lad needs a rest.
4) Overspending on mediocre talents like Rojo, Fellaini, Schneiderlin to name a couple.
5) Lack of pacey CF's playing two players who are at the twilight of their careers.
6) Lack of real quality CB's asides Bailly who has looked good. Even Smalling is prone to mistakes at times. Rojo, Blind are not CBs.

Anyway, I could have gone on but I don't want to moan too much. That's my perspective on matters anyway.

Awful performance. Again nobody looked bothered if we won or lost. Jose has got his toughest job yet. Still alot of players not upto United standard.

The players didn't play well but isn't it the manager's job to get them fired up and ready to start the match?

The problem is a lack of right footed CBs?

Well, it's clear as day that the pairing of Rojo-Blind doesn't work. Blind at RCB is constantly having to turn back onto his left to make a pass. And they epically failed today with the first goal.

Just because we got a flukey victory against City with that defence doesn't mean we need to keep the same CBs.

Anyway, it's clear our problems are not just limited to defence. Three managers in three years and we're still at square one.

There's something intrinsically wrong with the club and it's not just the manager. The whole mentality of the players is wrong. It's a psychological issue. It has to be.

Someone in the Match Day thread made a comment something like we're buying players in a "Frankenstein" way, which is spot on.... we're buying something that we think looks ok in it's current place (I.e. club) and it's current formation but with no thought as to how it will fit and then just trying to force it in and hoping it'll work here.

There's no planning, no one saying "right, we need this many players in these positions and this is how they'll integrate into a team formation with my tactics". Look at Pep/City.... he knew the style of play he wanted then got players to try and fit it. Same with Arsenal and Liverpool to an extent, even Chelsea... Everton...

We keep buying individuals who play in teams in a set way, then hoping they'll somehow magically blend together. Then we make it worse by repeatedly doing the "square pegs, round holes" thing (i.e. Blind as a LB, CH...anywhere apart from the MF'er he is? Don't play Zlatan unless you have speedy players close to him. Dont push Pogba up unless you've got organised MFers covering. Don't play non wingers really wide and expect them to be Kanchelskis.

The final thing is we don't seem to look at character when we buy/select players.... everyone knows players like Keane, Scholes, Giggs, etc were great players but they also hated losing and had the character on top of their ability. That went through squads for the last 40 years (mostly) that I've watched. Even the teams in the 70s/80s had it. Even so called lesser players over recent years had it (Rafael, P Neville, Chico, Park, Blomqvist) ... might not be world class or our best XI but when they were selected, they would always FECKING TRY!!!! Watching this lot is so fecking annoying..... it's not the losing, it's the lack of apparent interest.

A combination of dreadful managerial choices, expecting each manager to change the team/tactics in a season or two and some godawful lazy ####### of new players has killed decades in four years.

Istill think Jose is the right choice but please Jose..... choose a style, pick the players who can work in that style AND WILL GIVE 100% and if there's gaps, look at the reserves or go out and buy replacements. And if anyone isn't playing where you want them to and/or fecking chasing every ball as if their life depended on it, drop them regardless of name/wages.

We're at a crossroads here.... this season could decide if the next 5 are us challenging again or drifting to 6th-10th regulars.

Couldn't disagree more with this.

These players are professional footballers, earning however much a week to do something that we all wanted as a kid and are playing for Manchester United. If they can't motivate themselves they shouldn't be at the club.

Me on Mourinho: "He has to do more. It's as simple as that. We have big expectations. United had lots of coaches for that position."
did you watch the game? he was terrible today, looked completely off the pace and couldn't make a simple short pass.

The players didn't play well but isn't it the manager's job to get them fired up and ready to start the match?
He might have got them fired up. Trouble was they conceded straight away and that might have highlighted the mental toughness, or lack of, of some of our players. Some may have been scared shitless of the atmosphere.

Poor, poor performance. The first goal was an outstanding finish but once again, terrible defending by Blind and Rojo. Clearly no communication between them and they gave the guy far too much space in that position. Changed the game really. De Gea should be doing more for the second goal IMO, definitely not saying that he could have saved it but not moving just isn't good enough for me.

Aside from the goals we created nothing. All those players in the middle of the pitch and they just condensed the middle of the field and hit us on the break. The only width came from the two full backs; Shaw was awful and Darmian can't cross a ball to save his life. We had no pace in behind, we were playing in front of them all game and it took a moment of magic from Rooney to get us a goal.

We created chances against Burnley but for me we just aren't doing enough in behind. We aren't stretching teams because we don't play with 'out and out wingers' and when our full backs perform as they did today, we have absolutely nothing in wide areas. It's just so easy to defend against.

If you look at our squad though, there are too many players who just wouldn't have been anywhere near any of our successful teams. We needed another centre half in the summer IMO, a defensive minded centre back to play alongside Bailly. Now we've lost both and we are playing two full backs there.

All disappointing and needs to improve. We need to start finding a way to score goals.

Utter dross. Pathetic. Two great goals from them but they were mediocre, United were so easy to play, slow, predictable, dire.

Jose really is a cnut isn't he?
What's the point of having a go at Blind and Rojo like that? He selected a team with 2 left footed center backs no one else did. It's not like they gifted them the goals. We've conceded off a free kick and an overhead kick from outside the box for fecks sake. Very strange to single them out in a post match interview

We have no continuity or understanding in our midfield or attack. Valencia's absence was really glaring today...Darmian is just not an attacking full back. Found it really hard to get forward and supply quality. Same old story up top...no cutting edge. No one taking the game to the opponent other than Martial getting at them a few times on the wing. Ibra just has to be dropped imo he's offering us nothing at the moment. Rashford had a shit game today but i'd play him up top at the weekend

You are in shock that he would say that another human needs to do more? That's just ridiculously melodramatic. I'm not impressed by Mourinho either, but some people need to get over themselves.

Too right.
How dare a football manager tell any of his highly paid players to work harder after a loss.
In fact, what Jose should do is congratulate everybody who played today, tell them to take the week off and inform them of the loss bonus they are going to receive for today's loss.

This is very reminiscent of Aston Villa the last few years, except at a higher level. Managers came & went, but performances remained poor all the time, with fans criticising players who didn't seem to be up for the challenge or poor.

The players were a fecking joke tonight, the worst I've seen this season, Mourinhos right, there was no desire or passion from those players. Wankers.

We'll win our next two matches and go through.

Why the feck we didn't show that sense of urgency from the off is beyond my comprehension. A little more intensity and we would have likely got something from this game. Apart from a few, most of the playing staff need a kick up the backside.
Will we? I have no confidence now in any of them

We should of scored a couple maybe but there is nothing you can do about 2 wonder strikes like that. Glad to see Henrick come on and link up well upfront.
Mourinho has individually slagged him off tonight

Wowzah.
So he is expecting Jose to basically rip this team apart and effectively rebuilding from scratch.
Personally, I think many of the players will stay, but only time will tell.

There is a lot of players in this team not good enough or past their bests though, to be fair to Scholes on this quote though.

I'm feeling happy and I know why. I got to see the old Rooney!

The team is a work in progress and will take time to get better. For now, Mourinho has to first and foremost settle on his starting eleven and system. Take it from there.
He scored a wonder goal but was shit. Cocked an easier chance up. Easily pleased

We shouldn't have to rely on other teams though we're supposed to be a massive club

I didn't think it was straight criticism of them, more that he's having to play two left footed FBs at CH.

That said, they were sh!t for the first goal..... guy did everything bar have a luminous flag on saying "cross to me" but Rojo drifts in front and Blind nowhere near. How hard can it be to mark one player.

Fecking Scholes.. Saying now that we can't keep sacking managers. Where was this thought when he was bashing LvG?

Fecking short-sighted, like the rest of our management. We are the perfect example of how not to run a football club..
