Post-match discussion

Correct me if I'm wrong but subbed off players usually sit on the bench till the game is over, unless there's an injury.

They stated in the post match interviews that due to a rule change it was the correct decision?

Decent match with hopefully no injuries. Massive game now on Sunday although it's going to be really tough. Especially without Pogba..

I saw that in the after match interviews but apparently no-one was aware including the players. If that is the case poor communication from UEFA. The rule was already there if somebody deliberately walked off the pitch, but if a player slides off the pitch into the hoardings for example and lies injured several yards behind the goal line he is theoretically then playing everyone onside, if that is the case it's ridiculous.

Roll on Sunday .

Unless it's freezing cold, they don't have to sit on the bench after they've been subbed off.
Both Lukaku and Valencia were headed towards the bench when Jose pointed towards the tunnel and that's where they went.

Looked odd to me.

Good mentality to win it, altho moscow were really really bad.

Pogba is pure Entertainment.

Happy that Rashford and Lukaku got a goal each, will do some good for their confidence. Shaw did amazing considering how little he's played, Rashford gave them alot of trouble the whole game.

A magnificent couple of minutes against a mostly middling rest. Some positives, Shaw, Blind, some a bit off performances with very odd decision making. Good that Lukaku and Rashford scored as it might help rebuild their confidence. Onto the next one.

PS) 40 games at home unbeaten. Fortress Old Trafford, eh?
During the moyes/lvg era's midtable teams comes to OT and play with 2 strikers hoping to nick it, and fairplay to them, most will walk out with a fluke draw.
Mou made helmsdeep out OT so much so that, even their own set of players will laugh their asses off if their manager starts with 2 strikers at OT. Fear Factor.

Massages and/or ice baths. Recovery before the derby is the most important thing right now.

We played some fantastic football, looked very comfortable even when a goal down.
Thought Ander and Shaw were standouts given how little they have played this season.
Lukaku was class too, glad he got that goal and hug from Jose when he came off.

So new rule is you can be stood offside have the ball hit you and go into the net and it's all ok?
As far as I'm away it's about interference with play, player diverted the ball into the net, so it shouldn't have stood.

I think they said that even though Blind was off the pitch, he counts as being on the goal line. Thereby playing everybody onside.

Many changes, so I was concerned if the team will click. Did a very professional job and got 2 well deserved goals. Should have been more, and would have been more if it is the first team playing.

Was it Shaw that seem to freeze on his track to allow CSKA player to run down the wing to cross for that goal? Shaw had a good game but that one mistake could have costed us.

I was by the tunnel that they walked through after being subbed off and they seemed fine to me. Hope that’s the case and that it was because it was cold.

Rashford was tearing them apart, but for me Luke Shaw was critical and motm. Where we usually swing the play to the right to Valencia, we flipped it over to Shaw’s side this time and his better ball control and speed really opened up our chances, especially for Rashford. They seemed to do so well together. Because of this, I really hope to see Shaw start against City. Pogba did well to get the assist, but I thought he struggled a lot, often losing the ball and misplacing passes too much for his standards. Fantastic game overall and glad to get to witness a win in person the second time around at OT.

Glad with the win, good to see Shaw again, was my MOTM. All in all a lot of poor performances, don't know what has happened to Rashford besides his goals piss poor. Judging by that performance I really hope it was dew to the game not being important and knowing we would go through to the next round because if Utd put in the same performance on Sunday we are going to get spanked badly. One positive from the game was Herrera tried to play the ball forward instead of his usual sideways and backwards.

Entertaining game of football, although nothing we can take with us to the game on Sunday. Even Lindelöf looked decent in this game. Luke Shaw did well which was great to see. He did get a knock later on which I thought affected the aggressivness which he showed in the first half. His style of play certainly makes him prone to injury. Otherwise I like the lad and hope he can go forward with his career. Great to see the hug - Lukaku and Mourinho. Shows the respect they have between them. Love Lukaku and great for him to get that goal.

Lindelof has been good for a while now

It was a pretty decent performance, especially considering that we were probably not entirely focused on this game since failing to qualify would have been extremely difficult, and of course Sunday on the horizon. We were the better team throughout and their goal came out of nowhere really, and was incredibly annoying but I guess a rule existed that no one knew about. :wenger:

Nice to see Lukaku and Rashford back among the goals. Great assist by Pogba too, but that only served to depress me as he'll be missing the next 3 games. Have to give credit to Shaw too. Gave it his all, did well with is runs especially. May have bought himself a little time. Not that I would expect or support him begin thrown in any important Prem Matches just yet. Needs a few more of these in less important games.

Happy with the game last night. I know its become the cliche of our season, but yet again, that was just the kind of game we'd have drawn or lost last year.

Started fast, then conceded against the run of play. Last year we'd have either never got up to top speed again, or our play would become frantic and shapeless. Last night we came out in the second half and played it just right, plenty of pressure, but in a controlled way. We look like we're confident a goal will come.

Lots of other things to enjoy. Shaw, Mata, Blind and Rashford all played well having not been in the first team much recently. Lukaku got a goal, we saw another steady performance from Lindelof and a couple of youngsters got some more time on the pitch. Only downer was seeing how damn well Pogba is playing at the moment & knowing he's out now for a fortnight.

I always find it a bit odd that players just shove a tracksuit on and sit down after being subbed. It would make a lot more sense for them to head to the dressing room and do a 20 minute cool down with a physio.

As they're pretty much managed by professional fitness experts, I find it strange that you find it strange.

As are atheletes in a whole host of other sports who all have very strict warm down routines. It’s surprising to me because they are fitness experts which is why I assume there is a scientific reason it’s not seen as beneficial to them.

I think we did a fantastic job against CSKA. Our football was very good after the first few minutes. We played from the back every time and i loved the way we kept passing when we couldn't find gaps. We opened up many areas that were new to see. I didn't think we were capable of playing this way. Lindelof, Shaw, Pogba, Rashford, Valencia, Mata and Lukaku were fantastic in the game. Blind, Herrera, Smalling were good in some moments throughout the game.

The game was oozing confidence and i think if we played such connected passing football against City, we will do pretty good and i even think we can win. Just a reminder, we have a huge streak at stake and the last team that beat us at OT was City. Let's not let them get us this time. I think Mata should play against City and we should also try to keep the formation because it is giving the full backs, so much freedom and since they're orthodox players to neither positions, it is giving them the freedom to move up and down the pitch with protection.

No not really, it's been going on long since Mourinho was at the club.

Out of 10 I'd give that a 6 or 6.5. Professional performance that got the job done. We clearly weren't bending over backwards to win that one and still looked the dominant team. Really enjoyed when we pressed for the equalizer and then moved ahead so soon after it.

Great return for Shaw. He looked spry, covered his area pretty well, and showed ambition going forward. I think there is genuinely a top-level fullback in there, if only he can stay healthy and get a run of games.

My MOTM, though, went to Rashford, who I thought was electric with his runs. There was one impressive move he made in the 2nd half where he cut over the touchline and back to leave the defender behind him. It actually reminded me of Bale's goal for Real Madrid that they're always showing in highlight clips (though we faced a weak opponent). Well-deserved goal to win the game, should have had 2.

The rest were good to okay-ish. I do think we were sloppy with our passing, especially in the midfield. Herrera, I wasn't sure what he was looking to do with some of those balls. Pogba made some superb plays including the assist to Lukaku but TBH I thought he was too cocky and rather poor in between those moments. Mata had his moments as well but also got careless a few times and his lack of speed helped at least two of our counterattacks to break down.

No complaints, though, about the result or our finish in the group. Let's just hope we get a less difficult opponent for the R16. We have plenty of time later on to face Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, or Bayern. :nervous:
