We looked the business today. I am surprised how well we played.

We have been looking the business all season long, though. We're beginning to resemble your typical Jose Mourinho football team; relentless, clinical, devastating on the counter and that machine-like efficiency that only a Jose team could possess.

This is a title winning football team.

This is a title winning football team.
I genuinely believe this too. And remember that had Athletic Madrid not got a transfer ban then we would most likely have Griezmann in the team too in place of Mata or Mkhi. The fact that City have started well too has maybe taken a bit of the shine off for some, but surely the start to this season must have surpassed everyone's hopes/expectations?

Shattered my expectations to be absolutely honest with you and I dare say a great many others have been pleasantly surprised also.

Regardless of what happens come the end of the season, I'm just going to enjoy the fact that we're battering all and sundry in to submission right now. Gonna get plastered tonight (half way there to be honest!) and wind up as many scouser's as I can find.

Enjoy the good times while they last brothers.

Preach!

It is real progress, when you think of all the games we couldn't score in the first half under LvG. It was painful.

In many of those matches we didn't even register a shot on goal in the first half!
So refreshing to see how we are so much better under Mourinho, playing like a proper United team for the first time since Fergie retired.
And with only three Mourinho signings playing today (Matic, Mkhitarayan, Lukaku). Shows his quality as coach, getting much more out of players who were available for Moyes, LVG or both.

Decent enough display and a good result considering the travel in midweek. What's with the hate for Smalling from some people? Everyone knows he is no Beckenbauer, but he does what he is supposed to, which is defend without any stupid risk taking.

Pretty good display, for the first time in a few years i'm actually enjoying the games and expecting to be entertained (to some degree at least). We've had a fairly easy start to the season though, the true tests are yet to come. If we still look this good come January i'm gonna start to get excited!
That being said, this Crystal Palace team is having a nightmare, from what i heard they're the first team since the League started in 1882 or something to lose the first 7 games without even scoring. Would take something special for them to turn it around and stay up after a start like this.

I think the last few poor years have addled people's minds. They are pining for a mythical time, which never existed, where we never lost the ball let alone a game, where our opponents never had a chance on goal and we scored goals at regular intervals throughout the entire game, week in week out.
It's called the age of Computer Football Games.

Exactly! Enjoy the ride. What it's all about.

I just got the chance to sit down and watch this on DVR.

I thought we played a very controlled and comfortable game. Really not much to nitpick about.

Pretty tough to even pick out a motm. The entire team was solid.

Good comfortable and professional win. We just look a very strong and powerful team right now.

If we did that to anyone but City or Chelsea, it would still be against a crap team/crap defence.

We are just back from scoring 4 in Russia, scored 4 yesterday, and City just beat Chelsea, who are only home from beating Athletico. The standard at the top of the Premier League has risen, and we look no lower than 3rd... & may be 1st :)

I think you're right. It would appear that we need to win 10 nil, have 95% possession, and not concede a shot in our own half, in order to reach a 'decent performance'.

This was a Saturday stroll in the park. Just did enough to win. Very efficient display.

Yeah maybe I'm a bit negative, just feel that we're relying too much on brawn and we resort to aimless punts too quickly.

It's working at the moment but we could suffer for it against the best teams.

Still think we'll finish top 3, just don't see us winning the league. This year is too early.

I get your point and they make sense but I'll be happy if you quote me mate: this United team is going to be much better against the so called best teams this season than the team was, last season.

What I have observed is that Jose Mourinho is back to his best as a manager. The meaning of that is his team will steam roll a lot of weaker teams and he'll execute clear game plans to take care of the big guns even if it means not playing your favourite eye catching brand of football. Typically, he'll play cagey to pull draws away and decisively, to win at home.

Look at last season: we beat Chelsea and Spurs at home. We drew to Liverpool and Arsenal at home (two games we could have easily won on different days). We lost away to Chelsea (fairly but mainly due to an unexpected defensive blunder very early in the game that changed everything) and Arsenal (a game we had given up on due to our focus on the EL). We drew away to City and Spurs. Perhaps our worst result (despite the away loss to Chelsea) in terms of significance, was the home defeat to City.

It's a far better team we have this season while only City has seriously improved among the top six.
I think our results against the top teams will be better this season while we continue to amass points against the smaller teams. This team has attitude and character. Most importantly, unlike last season, many of our players are in good form. We have goals all over the pitch and the squad has very good depth.

Let's wait and see.

6 games of 4+ goals this season in 11 games

6 games of 4+ goals all of last season.

You need to improve your football vocabulary, mate. Let me help:

6 Chamberlain goals this season in 11 games.

6 Chamberlain goals all of last season.

I saw David Beckham smirking on his seat there, I wonder if he is thinking his Fergie United would have broken Palace 7-0

Yeah they're going to have to find Europa League-level form and maintain it for the whole season to get out of this. 40 points from 31 games is a huge ask.

Can easily see them making another managerial change before the end of the season. Hodgson looks like he's accepted relegation already.

They should offer to make Allardyce the highest-paid manager in world football to get him back!
I mean I do think they will be relegated but that really isn't a huge ask. 40 points from 31 games is basically 49-50 points over a full league season. Which isn't Europa League form; it's just mid-table.

I am loving the current side. I love our manager, he is a serial winner. I love that we have players who are among best in their positions such as De Gea, Pogba and Lukaku. I love that we have extremely talented young players with unlimited potential like Rashford, Martial and Bailly. I love that we have players like Herrera, Fellaini and Mata who love this club and give 100% every game. I love that we have senior players like Valencia, Carrick and Ibrahimovic, who are perfect example professionalism and have won so much in their career. We also have some excellent squad players who are happy with that role put a decent shift when needed like Romero, Blind, Young, Lingard and Darmian.

We can still improve individuals in couple of positions. But I am happy with what we have right now and some other club would have to be excellent throughout the season to deny us league.

35 is usually enough to survive. A mid table side should get that in 30 games. Palace need to get their next game out of the way and then forget about the first 8 games.

They can do it. It isnt that difficult. but they need to get their act together .. soon-ish

Good grief. We win 4-0 and you're still making snarky remarks. Victories are wasted on people like you.

I think he was just squeezing out a sneaky fart after having one of our famous Old Trafford fart burgers.

You could see it as early as the first game of the season, this utd team means business and at very least we will be no one's bitch in any game

Crystal Palace are fodder and were dismissed as such, this will be a pretty standard result for us against the lower sides as it should be. I guess what I'm saying is the post-saf ghost has been genuinely exorcised now

I'm not sure if we'll win the league as city and Chelsea are very good sides too but we've as much a chance as they do and we'll compete to the end. The respective cup runs and injuries could be critical

Another decent performance, with some nice goals and some sublime pieces of skill. A couple of Matas first touches were sublime, as was some of the skills shown by Marcus and Anthony.
Hopefully the international break is kind to us and we have everyone back fit and ready for the big one

Good game, can’t ask for much more than that. I gave Matic my MOTM because what I saw from Match choice on sky and MOTD he just seemed absolutely calm and his passing, for me was exceptional, closely followed by Rashford, can’t help but think he’s going to be special (already is I guess)

Great to go into the international break with a win like this and let’s hope we can give one in the arse of the naysayers against Liverpool on our return

Its a brilliant start. 19 out of 21 points and scoring well more than a goal a game has exceeded everyones expectations. Lets see how the next 7 league games go, and if were still top 2, then we are in with a big shout of the title.

To be fair I watched the game and I thought it was Matics worse game for us. He lost the ball more than once and put a few passes astray. Lukaku, goal aside, was poor as well. Valencia just shaded the best player from Fellaini imo.

4-0 is a thrashing and a terrific result in the Premier League at any point and against any opponent. Might be a bit underwhelming to have beaten them, say, 2-0 but shouldn't be any complaints about 4-0.

City's start is my biggest concern, if it wasn't for them I'd be saying we're favourites by a mile. That said, it will be nice to have an actual title race and more than anything actually be involved in it.

Also we can't be far off having the msot 4-0 victories in a season already. I don't even want 5-0 now, just more 4-0's.

Don't think we've attacked the stretty second half in any of the home game this season so far.

Surely we haven't lost the toss every time. Must be on purpose. Hasn't done us much harm so far.

19 out 21 points. 6 points in the CL and solid display in the cup. Sept could not of gone much better.

I dont think i have seen our squad being this ready in a long time, 06/07 i'd say. 4-0 in second or third gear is no exageration on yesterdays showing. It dont matter who comes in they do great. Now it was only Palace so we do have to mention that so we keep our feet on the ground.

Delighted for The Big Felli, hes had some tough times and most of it from us. To see him the last few games he is like a different player. Herrera and Smalling and Jones all played well too.

Tougher tests to come but we can only be impressed with this, so far. Long may it continue.

Looks like Mourinho knew what he was doing in the transfer market after all. Imagine if we could get Griezeman and Perisic on top of this!

What's not to love about our start? 6 wins from our 7 matches, a few without Pogba. The mistake against Stoke still bother me, but it's actually a good thing we're not on 21 points from those matches.

I'd still like to see better finishing, but apart from that I've got no complaints at all with the quality of our play.

We were really poor but still scored 4, game was more or less over after 2 min and that was a pity. Will take it all day long but I would've liked to see us work on our goal difference as we know City are scoring at will and wouldn't have let this opportunity slide.
Next up is Liverpool and I am feeling quite confident going into that one. We have shown we are solid at the back and they just love to leak a goal or 2 especially from set pieces. Only problem I can foresee for this game, it comes just after the International break and we will have to see if all our players come back injury free.

Heard a lot of people say it and I was saying it myself during and after the game. We never got out of second gear and we didn't need to. The early goal basically killed the game and allowed us to stroll through it like a training match IMO. We didn't need to exert ourselves which was great after the trip to Russia mid-week. Even if it's a very poor Palace side low on confidence, it's amazing that we can steamroll a team 4-0 without even really having to play any notable football. The challenge will come after the international break, however. We will need to be able to get into gears four and five against Liverpool and Benfica. They will both be so up for the game, probably more-so than us in truth as they will be desperate for wins. I don't think Liverpool can challenge for the Premier League this season, but I think they're already in a position where they almost need to beat us at Anfield to give themselves any belief they can out-do us in the League. Benfica need a point in the Champions League against us over the two games at the minimum to have any hope of progressing in the competition, so they'll play better than they did against CSKA and Basel.

Back to the Palace game though, we let them have the ball a bit too much but it was a game where it didn't matter. We're very clinical with our chances, so it's difficult to find room for complaint. I'm going to complain anyway because it's what fans do. We should really have scored five, and even going back to Southampton and CSKA prior, we probably should have got another three or so goals more than we did over the course of those games too.

We scored 4 and its considered not working on GD...sign of the times. 4-0 is the new 1-0.
