PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 4:0 Crystal Palace

Post-match discussion

At some point I'll learn to put a bet on 4-0.

Palace are now a strong contender for the worst team in the history of the Premier League but four goals after a trip to Moscow is a good effort.

Can't argue with the result but it was a pretty flat and sloppy performance in the second half. We could have had even more, Palace were dire!

Dude, our players were stumbling off a flight from Russia at 4.00am on Thursday morning, we did exactly what was needed today.

Not sure if you're WUMming or not but City are comfortably better than us. We've improved massively but they're a couple of steps ahead - we still need a top-quality playmaker and LB. Reckon they'll win the league by 10 points. Hope I'm wrong though!

What on earth have you seen that leads you to think that they will finish 10 points clear of us? I accept that we haven't played a 'big' side yet, but we have barely missed a beat - why so negative?

Chelsea got 16 points v the other top 6 last season. We got 11. They finshed miles ahead of us.

That stat alone shows how important it is to beat the "lesser" teams.

Exactamundo, whereas my team performed brilliantly against all the top 4, and finished 4th (just). Beating the top teams is great but completely irrelevant if you follow it up by getting beat by West ham at home and losing to Bournemouth. I'd take losing 50% of the top clashes if it meant winning all the ones you should be winning like the Watfords and the Hull citys of the world.

Personally I’m happy that I’m not longer seeing us win but thinking “I wonder if we’ll feck it up next week”.

Remember this stage of the league last season when City were top and everyone was saying they were going to win by a gallop? I wonder what happened then? They will drop points. I don't think we will drop as much.

Yeah maybe I'm a bit negative, just feel that we're relying too much on brawn and we resort to aimless punts too quickly.

It's working at the moment but we could suffer for it against the best teams.

Still think we'll finish top 3, just don't see us winning the league. This year is too early.

Hope so mate! Guardiola meltdown would be immense.

Also, let’s not forget that Mourinho is a defensive manager...

4-0 is the new 1-0 to Jose

United are just a horrible team to play against, its going to be really interesting watching the mini tough spell coming up!

feck I dont care who should be the starter between Rashford and Martial as long as they can help the team get 4 goals each match! both of them are exciting to watch. very very happy with the result and all players performances too, especially Fellaini my MOTM.

Easy win, not at our best but we don't need to be - solid commanding performance without being spectacular but we keep scoring .
Fellaini MoM, Jones and Mata very good.
Had a dodgy period for about 10 minutes in the first half but DDG had very little to do.

Indeed. Chelsea would have finshed third even if they got 0 points v the top 6.
You have to be beating the lesser teams consistantly to give yourself a shot at the title.

I think the one thing people may have missed from that performance, that team only had three of "Mourinho's" players, Matic, Mkhi, and Lukaku. All the others were available to Moyes, LVG or both, yet with this manager we absolutely walked this game without passing 3rd gear.

But yeah, José is purely a cheque book manager.

I think that the worst that will happen against the best teams is that Mourinho will go ultra pragmatic and we'll either nick a 1-0, draw, or lose narrowly. I really don't see this side getting turned over by anyone. And if we can win the vast majority of our other games in the way that we have so far this season then we won't need to win all of our games against the big teams anyway. Loosen up, fix yourself a pina colada and enjoy the ride - I guarantee every big side will be shitting themselves about playing us, Pep's City especially...

Remember the thread "When was the last time we scored from open play?". Now look at our goals. Feels good.
Now posters are moaning about taking our foot off the gas after scoring 4...

6 games of 4+ goals this season in 11 games

6 games of 4+ goals all of last season.

That's how we improved under one of the best coaches in the world of football, hope Jose stays 10 years here.

Our game is Game of the Day on Sky later, there again there wasn't much competition. Looking forward to watching it.

A bit hit and miss but brilliant in spells.. Lukaku should have gotten more and Miki didn't feature.. Fellaini and Young have really stuffed a sock to many here..

Matic was poor today. Gave away the ball on a couple of occasions. Got away cos it was only Palace.

Another 4-0! Fantastic stuff. I'm loving this recently. Hard to pick a best performance since there were a lot of high quality performances out there today. Fellaini, Rashford, Valencia, Jones, Young and Lukaku all deserve big praise. Nice to see Mata get off the mark for the season too, and generally nice to see a big spread of goals/assists through the team.

Yeah agree with the last bit, City will hate playing us and that's why Guardiola's started the trash-talking. But over a whole season they'll be better.

Is that even a nutmeg? Looks like he just rolled it to the side.
Townsend's reaction sums up Palace at the moment though doesn't it. He doesn't turn and try and become active again. He just looks to the heavens and walks away! Really poor attitude, no matter how good the meg was.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and you may well be proven to be right, but still not sure why you're so certain!
That's just my feeling from watching the two teams. We've massively improved but they're more cohesive with the ball and seem to have more passing options. As I say, hope I'm wrong about them winning the league! Would love to see Guardiola leave having won nothing.

Yeah, that's their style - they will always look like that in comparison to us because of Pep's footballing 'philosophy', and the players that he's signed to implement it. It doesn't necessarily follow that it will trump our game plan when we play them though. Mourinho won a league with Real when Barca were at their absolute best, with Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets in the team...
