PL D FA Premier League

Chelsea 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Its amazing how Chelsea have become some kind of super team on par with Liverpool and City. This time last year they were on the same level as crap as we are. Just goes to show you what a good manager can do.
It was another one of those games where we get a point or a win we dont deserve, same as Vilareal for example. But we do have an amazing squad, and if Chelsea can improve so much with a new manager then so can we. Lets hope Rangnick does some magic.

Some good, hardworking performances, specifically in the second half. It was all very basic stuff though. Our coaching staff is mid table.

See I don't get this notion of us not being good enough as a group. Most thought United would challenge for the league at the start of the season. Yes our midfield is a bit shoddy, but on talent, we have the capacity under a good manager to do really well.

We played like cannon folder throughout the game. But a point is a point, result wise can’t really complain.

I was a donkey, travelling to a country who don’t speak donkey. I would just look at the pictures. And the pictures have been telling for some time, we need structural confidence and work ethic. Creativity will follow, but first and foremost, we need to get back to last season and some structural balance. But maybe I’m just a donkey, who doesn’t see the big picture, when only looking at the structural parts.

Mad thing about Sancho's goal was if he'd chosen to slide Rashford in instead of passing it into the net, Marcus would have been offside.
During their run towards the goal together after Jorghino's miscontrol Rashford was in an offside position for most of it.....mindless stuff!

That's exactly what I was thinking. How hard is it to slow down and be onside.

Lot worse performance than under Ole but get an undeserved point.

Ralf's got a hell of a job on his hands if he keeps this coaching staff.
Surely he can't do more than keep 1 or 2 on to learn on the job.

We're gonna need 2 CMs and 2 FBs, those are the players who do the bulk of the work holding the ball against a press, who need to be very quick on the ball to beat it.

Can't name many current players who will be able to play in a team that can dominate possession against the top teams. Bruno, Sancho, Cavani...

Can I ask why people are expecting progress?

We don't have a manager.

It's staggering the people moaning don't understand that.

"Oh if that was Ole or Jose people would be furious"

Yes, because they were both here years and given hundreds of millions to build a team and a squad.

Carrick has been interim manager for a fecking week. This time next week we know he won't be manager, nobody is acting like Carrick is some genius and we were brilliant.

He's taken a team in shambles and rock bottom and got two decent results. Nobody should be slagging him off.

Actually last year this time we were smelling the top of the table and Chelsea was crap. We had a horrible start but then we had a great December if I remember... but then in second half sh1t went downhill again.

We neutralized Chelsea for the most part. Were lucky several times. Bruno was wasteful. Baily and Lindeloff were ace.
FFS Rashford stay onside

Sancho finally proving to everyone why he's worth 70 mil with 2 goals in 2 games!

Fred was fantastic and could have won a penalty.

Chelsea should not have gotten a penalty. Tussle like that happens all the time. United was robbed of a victory.

Carrick comment on RR about the style of play:

“The club doesn’t change. It is still Manchester United,” said Carrick. “It still has a certain DNA running right through it.

“Expectations and responsibilities are the same, playing exciting football. We are here obviously to win first and foremost but in a certain way.

And he shows the so-called DNA ADN (whatever the name) playing style in the first half with only one harmless shoot from Bruno :lol::lol:

Yes, Chelsea created far more chances than we did…but they needed a dodgy pk to beat De Gea.

I don't know why people think we didn't deserve our point. It's a game about scoring goals, we scored one and they scored one. Chelsea didn't deserve to win if they couldn't score more than us, especially given that we weren't even good. Plus their penalty was soft

Makes me laugh when some thought it was two points dropped, we were lucky to get a point and what you would expect from a team near the bottom of form league. Brutal truth is the scousers and City don't give away a soft penalty when leading they just see it out.

I was surprised when Carrick brought Jadon out. What? He's played so many minutes thus far he cannot play the whole game.
Also, can ayone explain to me what's the point in replacing Bruno (who was bad) with VDB in 89. minute?
Penalty decision without even checking was ridiculous

I still can’t see how that is a penalty - I would be more at peace with it if he had had a look at the monitor himself and decided.

Decent result, even better considering our circumstances but for some reason I still feel annoyed we didn’t win.

Game went alot better than expected to be honest. I had 2-0 for Chelsea as my bet before the game, but I betted 100 NOK on 1-1 as I had a feeling we could get lucky and nick a goal. Their front line atm isn’t exactly terrifying and my guess was they had the potential of maximum 2 goals.

Bailly and Lindelof was terrific. Matic, Fred and Sancho as well. De Gea’s been our best player despite all our GA so far, and was superb today as well.

Great result overall. We really could not hope for anything better.

Think we did well under current circumstances. First time for a long time that I detect some semblance of shape. You can tell what we tried to do albeit not very well but that's the difference between coaching. The major positives I have is the squad usage. Lindelof, Baily and Telles are more than adequate to step in and do a job. We don't need to run our first eleven to the ground. We have good enough players to step in and do a job if necessary and no over-reliant on first eleven. Onwards and upwards!

Let's be honest here: Before the game, most of us would be happy with one point. Chelsea is top of the league, in good form, and have a good manager; we have none of those.

After the game, I am still happy with one point.

Chelsea were unlucky (or we are lucky) in first half with many chances. In another day they can be few goals up by half time already.

I was also surprised with the Sancho sub, but it was not what kill our momentum. It was the penalty that make the impact. But again, in another day, Chelsea might not even need that penalty with all their earlier chances.

I mean even for Liverpool or Manchester City, a draw at Stanford Bridge at the moment may not be a bad result. We should accept our current form and readjust our expectation.

Jack up your appearance counts. Even if you appear for just 1 min, the stat will put you as having one sub appearance and your value remain high because you are active.

I thought we should have won to be honest. Not sure what AWB was doing for that penalty. We’ve looked much more organised under Carrick than we’ve been under Ole which is strange.

We had 34% possession and 3 shots in the whole match. You have to be a wildly optimistic to think that we should have won when we played so negatively.

Gawd, we have dropped so far behind.
I really didn't know how far we have fallen behind. It is so easy to see how badly we are coached now. Rangnick has a hell of a job on his hands.

I think Carrick did a great job holding the league leaders to a draw at their place. What more could we want before Ralf gets here? I for one am satisfied given the circumstances and the results of the previous EPL games.

Sancho was taken off because he looked injured wasn't he?

The commentators said he was not moving freely before he was subbed and I noticed he seemed to limp.

Think it was a forced substitution

We stole a point from the league leaders, who had an off day and chose the wrong team to play us.

Carrick did well, he wasn't appointed as a manager. I would have kept Sancho on, but who am I.

It's tempting to answer that you would want something more than what you'd expect from Burnley or Newcastle - 5 shots, barely 30% possession and a United possession heatmap that was completely green in Chelsea's third at halftime. :) But I agree with your point about the context of the game. It's relative stabilisation. The result is good. So was the effort. But it also shows how much work there is to be done.

A draw is a great result, but let's not pretend that wasn't pathetic. It was like watching West Brom scrape a draw against a top 4 team. There is no need to pretend like we are a better team when we don't even have a manager currently.

I think a lot is forgotten of how much investment was made the summer before last. Frank Lampard was unlucky that the players didn't have time to bed in.

Tuchel may have done a great job. That is hard to deny, but that investment always had the potential to come good.

Not an easy watch, but given United's recent form, it was 'job done'. Although if Fred, who had an otherwise great game, had not for a brief moment reverted back to doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, we could have made the 'steal' of the century and taken all the points. Still it is the eighth game on the trot that Chelsea have failed to beat us... (faint cheering in the background)
I must say once again congratulations to our travelling fans they sang all the way through the match, even when at times it looked like we were defending at the Alamo! Well done to all!

Am I the only one that thought that was a decent result?

In spite of everything going on we got a decent point away at Chelsea. Yes it was touch and go for a while early on but we were a real threat in the second half and but for a stupid penalty we could have won it!

Heck if Fred had passed to Lingard instead of trying to chip Mendy we would have nicked it at the death.

I think some people on here need to learn about context and perspective.
