Pogba has taken his rest all season. I would love to know what he is meant to be good at....Rojo had a fantastic game, De Gea, Young did very well aswell. Rashford worked hard. Pogba was terrible tonight, he needs a prolonged rest.
Did Jones and Smalling go over to Herrera to tell him what Oliver had said? Not that bothered. Harsh on Herrera ultimately but at the same time he was stupid to put that tackle in literally 2 seconds after the ref had stopped play to talk to Jones and Smalling. He almost had no choice.
Pogba was always going to struggle in a 10 man team against that formation. Should have done better on Kante though, fair enough, but then who expected Kante to hit that? He looked tired, he's played probably more minutes than anyone.
Rojo is awesome. So too Valencia.
Thought we did well ultimately, they didn't really have that many chances despite 70% possession, and if Rashford had of converted would have been extra time.
Bring on be more important competition on Thursday. That one I'll be pissed about going out in.
...Jogba...
I'm unsure of your point, Pogue.
Is it that we never had a chance, when reduced to ten? If so, I would suggest being reduced to ten was our own fault.

I thought Jose had a game plan which might have worked till Oliver decided the game.
For Pogba critics how was he suppose to play tonight when we went down to 10 men? Tonight was not the game to judge any player by, as soon as Herrera was sent off it was very hard to execute our game plan and play our game.
Let's move on.
But Mourinho didn't count that, which means we were unbeaten until now I think, that is if he's even aknowledging this loss.We haven't been unbeaten in all comps since the defeat in League cup but I guess you know that.
Not a stamp at all.
He's in midair, if he lands on that leg and puts his weight on it Hazard would have been doubled over in agony. As it was he wasn't even scratched.
If he didn't know what Oliver had said he wouldn't be thinking the ref was going to do what he did, especially when it wasn't a deserving a yellow. Maybe some of these referees need investigating.Jones had just fouled Hazard. He didn't need to be told, he just needed to be a bit smarter in that exact moment.
That may be so, however, Ander needed to be smarter than that. Everyone and their dog knows this ref in particular don't give us anything, so why give him a reason to get card happy? Refs are immune from any consequences it seems regardless of their shit decisions. It sucks, but you just have to be smart and not provoke the situation, as best you can. Hazard wasn't close to our penalty area for e.g., so Ander could have played it cool there. It's all about being aware and choosing your moments. The first card wasn't a yellow. Herrera stood still. Hazard ran into him and he fell like he stepped on a land mine. What was Herrera supposed to do? Vaporise so Hazard can run past him?
I don't know why experienced referees fall for that trick. Just because a player is trying to complete a 1-2 pass does not give him the right to walk through defenders in a stationary position.
Oliver ruined this game.
I just feel we offered nothing, after the red. Also, I do attest the sending off more to the tactics than Herrera.Of course it was our own fault. Well, specifically Ander Hererra's fault.
We coped well enough 11v10 fwiw but they're a damn good team under Conte, so it was an uphill task. They were deserved favourites to win even without the red card. Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in our performance or tactics, though. At any point in the game.

Thats what he tries to do but journalists try to force him into criticsing the ref to create controversy. He doesn't need to say anything.
Given that we were up against the best team in the league this year and away from home and down to 10 men for two thirds of the game we did as well as could be expected. Up until the sending off we were matching them toe to toe. Very impressed with the defensive display particularly Rojo, Valencia and De Gea.
No , but they didn't go over to me either and I figured it out from here ok. Having said that, never a red card.Did Jones and Smalling go over to Herrera to tell him what Oliver had said?
We Created One chance todaywhat too by david luiz error
Why is only Hazard protected? So if Costa was putting it about that is OK?Did you hear what Oliver said? I didn't. I knew damn well what he was saying though. How thick does someone have to be to see that exchange and not work out what he was warning us about?
presswith lethrgic fallani and pogba? on kante and matic? their one tough football would have ensured we go beat by bigger marginEven with 10 minutes to go? What are you frightened of...losing 2 nil? Sorry...would rather of had a 10 minute press...anyone would think we were happy to lose 1 nil.
I don't think he wanted another 4-0 either whihc we would have been vulnerable to throwing the kitchen sink.Jose clearly wanted out of the cup. Didn't really bother to throw the sink at the end
Nah. We couldn't keep the ball well. And all we did just launch it up front like the old Stoke. Even DDG didn't bother to build the game from the back. It was a fecking shite performance.Of course it was our own fault. Well, specifically Ander Hererra's fault.

He's been mostly very calm so far.Surprisingly, he was. But we'll get a better idea in the post-match interview.
No realisticMkhitaryan's shot in the first half was a created chance. Cynical much?
I had to post to say how disappointed I am in the referee. Never 2 yellows.
1st one. No. Hazard simply runs into Herrera. What should Herrera do as he stands his ground. Roll out the red carpet and say
"Ooh here you go, I'll be getting out the way. On you stroll." Pathetic from the Ref.
The second was even worse; Yes Hazard had been fouled multiple times, but that challenge was not a yellow esp. a second yellow. You cannot use previous challenges from different players to call it.
Ruined the entire game. If anything when a player is on a yellow Refs usually are more cautious issuing second helpings. He is terrible.
We setup initially brilliantly with Jose matching Conte and we had the surprising edge. Conte in his post match admitted "We couldn't play," because we pressed brilliantly. Ruud "Sexy Football" Gullit was even impressed.
And so they did the trick of getting a man sent off because they couldn't live with that in your face approach for the whole match. Chelsea believe me, will be found out next season if they don't come up with a plan B. Kante is a top player, but he met his match today before the Red.
Any youngster here who thinks Mourinho's style is not in keeping with how "United Play" needs to thoroughly watch our old-school Arsenal encounters and full seasons under Fergie; Feisty, combative and a real War of attrition and finesse.
Either challenge was debatable. All this "But Herrera should have..." is ridiculously harsh. You want him to play like a ghost? You would hate to watch Keane i guess.
Refs subsequent decision to not dish out more yellows for worse tackles, showed that in his mind he knows he got it wrong.
So pleased for the lads; Playing against Chelsea is not easy and esp. after our tight run of games, and with 10 men we played brilliantly. De Gea will be absolutely disgusted with himself. Was wrong footed for a split second and lost a bit of reach to save that one. Inches.
Is the forum full of kids, because I can't see why the digs at Young and Co.
Almost every player worked their socks off.
Fellaini for once in midfield and under pressure, didn't foul like a pillock.
Young shackled Moses brilliantly.
Jones, Rojo and Smalling did very well in defence, all covering each other. A back 3 will become a serious option with the addition of a better centre back in the Summer.
Valencia was a man possessed.
Rashford. So close. He will get even better.
However one man has to take a long hard look at himself: Pogba.
I remember the "Baby Elephant" thread and I am afraid that Pogba has to do more; Not because of his pricetag, just in comparison to other players in making the right decisions on the pitch. He was vocal but wasn't leading on the pitch. He needs better tactical awareness. All too often goes for individual tricks when a clever simple pass or simple rifling shot would do much more damage.
Needs to go away to the Lake District in the Summer and study in solitude.
His shot on that edge of the box was shocking; They are the match defining moments.
As was the amount of times we had a break on and he made the wrong decision.
Overall, I am really heartened by the performance. So pleased that the lads who came in did a good job and that we adapted and used different tactics to nullify Chelsea.
I am confident that with just a few tweaks and signings we will be able to play a number of different ways next season and mount a serious push on all 4 fronts.
Onwards to Europa; We simply have to win, as our league form is far too erratic for us to finish 4th.
Plus I'd love to travel to Sweden.
Special Mention: Fans. As a Manc in London, our guys were brilliant especially the Red Flag chant at the end. Superb.
