decimated by injuries , glad for the 3 points, things can only get better.

Very ugly but 3 points was important. Hopefully follow that up with a good performance ok too if the result next time out.

The positive tonight was defended as a team, Burnley are a decent passing team but they rarely had a sniff. We were far from brilliant but with a better final ball could have been an easy 3-0 win.
Far to much negativity on here.
i saw some definite positives tonight, defend together = clean sheet. Johhny Evans still got it, Hannibal really good. Hojlund is a real centre forward. Casamiro looked far better 2nd half.
3points.. Next game please.

Get in there.

Great goal and Evans was brilliant.

Was ugly at times but getting the result was the main thing tonight.

Congratulations to them.

Why bother posting this just to shit on the team, does it make you feel happier?

We're in a slump of form, it's evident we tried being to shore it up at the back tonight and this won't be the last time. I'd say the next two games are going to be gritty performances in which we grind out wins, then we'll try and open it up a bit more.

Some on here I'd happily see feck off and support City if they want machine like efficiency with zero passion and excitement

Struggled for the three points and while we can be happy ending the losing streak, it's still very concerning that Burnley had so much possession.

Can barely put a side out, so can't be overly critical after a win. But a few players need to take a long look in the mirror about the effort they are putting in.

Onana - Had a decent game, although kept kicking it long and giving the ball to Burnley
Dalot - Half the player Reguilon is. Gave the ball to Burnley players more times than to his own team mates. Made one run up the pitch which was good. But not enough.
Evans - Solid, calm, composed, great passing range. One assist and a goal (disallowed)
Lindelof - Played well with Evans. They are a decent partnership.
Reguilon - Not as good as his previous games, but apparently he was ill.
Casemiro - I think tonight we saw a little window into his future. Sitting in front of the back 4, putting out fires, clearing up, stepping out to win tackles, plugging gaps.
Hannibal - Full of energy, he was the difference in our midfield that we have missed recently. He covers a large area, can support the forwards, or track runners going towards our goal. Gave a great account of himself.
McTominay - OMG we turned down a 30m bid for him. He was megged twice. Gave the ball away all night, was clumsy and never in control of the ball. Burnley had kids literally running rings around him and he never got near to any of them.
Rashford - Looks like he's on the verge of a Richie Tenenbaum melt down. Closest thing to giving up I have ever seen.
Bruno - Think he had a bit of a night off tonight, compared to his usual headless chicken, covering every area of the pitch. Scored a wonderful goal and showed his class.
Hojlund - Ran his socks off, led the line and the press. Lost the ball a few times, didn't hold it up as well. I still think he will be mint, but he's only getting scraps.

I shouldn't be getting a migraine watching us play against a toothless Burnley! Ugly ugly performance. The perfect result (all things considered ). I had to keep reminding myself that we played with our 3rd choice lb, 4th choice lcb, 2nd choice rcb, 2nd choice rb, 4th choice no 8, 3rd choice no 10, 3rd choice rw and that our team is seriously lacking confidence. Hopefully we can stabilise now and improve performances cause it has been depressing so far.

Absolutely horrible performance again. A beautiful goal, Hannibal played really well tonight, thought there was good defensive quality from Evans and Varane too, that's the only positives really.

We've played like the newly promoted team tonight. I know there's an argument that Burnley didn't create much and therefore we were comfortable. We didn't look comfortable at all to me, way too many 6 yard box blocks and clearances for the level of opposition we were playing and Burnley absolutely bossed the ball the whole game which is shocking.

End of the day we get three points and maybe a little confidence boost but whether by accident or design, if we continue to play like that we'll not be getting three points very often.

I've seen a few folk complaining we're too slow and laboured in our play but I see the opposite most of the time, we're too hurried to get it on to the next man, often not even really looking and consequently playing a poor pass or giving the ball away. We play far too many high balls as well, dangerous when it comes off but too often it's just giving the ball straight back to the opposition.

Not impressed with the approach this season, there's a big problem with injuries but that in itself is unlikely to be just bad luck and more likely to do with the conditioning of the players. We looked as bad this evening as the football that got Ole the sack.

Said I'd happy with scrappy win and happy I am. To win and keep a clean sheet with 2nd choice back four and patched up midfield the bonus. Evans the clear MOTM thankfully had him to fill instead of Maguire today.

The winning goal brought back memories of that pass by Rooney and finish by Van Persie against Villa in 2013 to seal the league title and I was to be there a decade ago.

Thought Reguilon was injured when he seemed to grab hamstring, however if it's illness then that's not quite such an issue for us

It still is an issue, considering he is one of the only two full backs we had available.

How can it be a poor result if you win? Give your head a fecking wobble!

1-0 win with an extraordinary individual effort for a goal . Other than that no clear cut chance.

There was only one positive here - 3 points. That was pretty grim.

Just as a bit of perspective: we had 38.5% possession. Against a team that has 1 point in 5 games, is last in the PL and only had above 50% possession in one of those other four games. It mostly looked like a bottom team playing a midtable side, and it wasn't us looking like the midtable side. Both teams below 1.00 in XG (and theirs higher than ours). A worrying performance, but hey, at least we didn't drop points.

That midfield diamond really doesn't look like our thing though.

We could have lost this. Nothing assured about this performance and in fact at times I think we resorted to Ole ball - quick counters but backs to the wall for the most part

Yeah no denying that's embarrassing to say the least. I feel almost ashamed to win the game with stats like that. Felt a bit like the scrappy 1-0 win at Swansea after the derby humiliation

A bit more perspective;

Shaw, Martinez, Varane, Wan Bissaka, Malacia, Mount, Amrabat, Mainoo, Antony, Sancho, Maguire all unavailable.

The team just played an away game in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The team isn’t in form and quite disjointed.

All I kept thinking was: How is it that a team with a fraction of our spending power and generally 2nd tier talent can have better patterns of play, superior technical quality, smarter decisions, and bravery? I’ve been a big supporter of ETH, but surely he has to do a better job in match preparation, tactics and getting the team to execute successful patterns of play. Even his substitutions were uninspiring.

1/10 for me for ETH this match.

I can't really blame the manager. So many of our managers are just lazy b@stards.

I thought 2nd half considering all circumstances was almost perfectly managed

that's some difference in opinions
I guess. Does that performance inspire confidence in you? Burnley is dead last in the table!!! How could anyone look at that performance and say we’re a good side?

Delighted with that. I know the opponent, but given everything recently, a clean sheet and a win, thank you very much.

Can't say any of the players didn't work hard either, which is a novelty.

Phew.

I watched the game without reading through the match thread and I thought we were quite solid tonight without being spectacular. Better than the previous games to be honest, and something to build on.

But I have a quick read through the match thread and look and here and my god, people sure do love a moan.

We're absolutely ravaged with missing players, for various reasons, and so considering we had to field a team consisting of 0 first choice defenders and at best 2 first choice midfielders, it was a good win.

The most encouraging thing to see was the extra energy, Hannibal in particular brought that in spades, but Casemiro, McTominay, and Bruno all did their share of running, it was so infections even Rashford started to press a little bit. That's the kind of effort off the ball we need to put in to make this system work, now we just need to start using the dangerous situations we often create, particularly from high turnovers which we've been brilliant at generating but have wasted almost all of them this season.

A bit more perspective: Burnley’s squad is worth €220m, our squad cost is £998m… we still had much more money on the pitch than they did. Is a comfortable 2-0 win with above 50% possession too much to ask? How does a well drilled Kompany side look so much better than us? I support Ten Hag, but it’s up to him to get us playing better.

Was just about to name our list of unavailable players myself. Were people really expecting a cohesive team performance when our squad is ravaged with injuries and returning from an away European tie?! Our entire back 4 was missing from our starting lineup today ffs! Remember when Liverpool had Van Dijk and Matip injured and lost 6 home games on the spin? Swear some people just love whinging for the sake of it.

1) why use a combination of Euros and Pounds?

2) United have wasted money over the past decade. What does that have to do with anything?

3) If you don’t understand why having 11 of the first team squad out of action, including 3 of your back 4, makes a difference on how you play then you need to have a wobble of your head

It is, and over the course of the season he'll obviously have to do so, but given the circumstances and the pressure we were under to come away with the win today, just take the points on move on to the next match. Before the game in the matchday thread, people had already given up the points and were demanding to know why we weren't playing academy players instead of Evans.
