Close run for M.o.M. between Bailly and Martial, went for Martial it was a reminder of our counter attacking football of old. Bailly was superb hope he is OK for Thursday at least City had extra time today and to lost as well.

He says he doesn't know with Pogba which is better than confirming that its a hamstring so that's good. He demands either Smalling or Jones to play against City. Wonder who'd step up?

Jones owes it to this club to do so, but i doubt either of them will play on Thursday. I'm glad mourinho is taking this sort of approach with players, over the last few years they've been over pampered and not really taken any responsibility for the clubs failings.

Highly efficient performance that. Bailly and Blind were solid at the back, they didn't put a foot wrong all game. Pogba and Fellaini were dominant in midfield, Martial stepped up and looked dangerous all game, even Rooney had a decent game.

CL qualification is still in our hands.

IMO.. Pogba should have been off much before. I was wondering why the hell is Pogba not off yet. Then after some time he seems to have got injured. Jose has a chance to take him off with us firmly in control

That was a good attacking performance, with a solid defensive foundation.

Not sure about the need to bring Rashford on, seemed unnecessary.

For a 19yo, a 25' run out at the end of a finished game is nothing at all. Youngsters recover incredibly quick and that wouldn't have taxed him at all. He'll be fine.

A bit like with Ibra, Pogba never gets substitued. Mou seems him as incredibly important to our control of the midfield.

He should have though, the game was over by that time, I agree with you.

I found the comments about Smalling and Jones interesting. Especially after his claim the league is not a priority.

  • Three central defenders out
  • Our top goalscorer out
  • Our second top goalscorer (and one of our more creative midfielders) out
  • Played more games than any other team this season
  • 120 minutes on Thursday night
  • Rooney not played in a while
  • Blind not played central defence in a while
  • Martial not played centre forward all season
  • Burnley one of the best home records in the league
  • 2-0 up at half time
Graeme Souness: "Not been great" :wenger:

Sure he wasn't talking about the Liverpool game?

Right, but I agree with SalfordRed1960. It was unnecessary to risk an injury of our best available forward when the game was under our full control. I guess Mourinho was hoping for the third goal to kill the game, but I still thought it wasn't the right move.

If anything it keeps their rhythm up and Marcus was unlucky not to score as well.

Oh I agree about his recovery, but it was a risk we didn't need to take. We need and want Rashford and Martial totally fresh and sharp for the City game.

Jose challenging Smalling and Jones is more of him giving an example of what he wants out of his players and that is accountability for not only for yourself, but your teammates. it builds that trust, belief and sacrifice that is needed as a team to achieve the success at United. Put yourself on the line and do a job. You win you win, lose you lose. But challenging yourself is going to challenge others to step up.

Great to see Marital coming back into form for the most important time of the season. I hope him and Rashford make Stones the overrated signing he is.

Another good solid performance.

Martial and Bailly the best followed by Pogba and Fellaini

Players were very tired towards the end , another match with opposition having no shots on target.

Would love to see Martial and Rashford causing havoc in City's defence

Very happy. Professional and never looked trouble, with some sparks of excitement.Martial did well, good to see him raise his game and fairplay to Rooney for sticking one in I guess. +2 goal difference at a tough ground, some players rested and Thurs night is now potentially enormous in the top 4 picture.

I'm just seen the goals and a bit of the game, we looked unruffled and got the job the done in a very professional manner (for what feels like about the third time this season FFS). Add in that both goal scorers were in need of a confidence boost and the events at Samfield and it's a very satisfying day at the office.

Good, solid, professional and workmanlike performance. A win on a ground that has been difficult for many. Good job all around in the face of diversity. Martial was my MOTM, though it could have been Bailly. Good to see Rooney contribute as well.

Dislike commenting on matches I've only seen the highlights of, very good result on the back of what seemed a professional performance.

Most pleasingly we're scoring counter attacking goals again, and our forward look like they have remembered how to put it between the posts after months of missing. If ever there was a time to rediscover the scoring touch its now.

Get the result at Wastelands on Thursday and all of a sudden...

Very good performance, well deserved and needed victory.

But ffs Mourinho and his subs. Instead of taking out Pogba and Bailly, guys who are playing every game every minute and spare them from injuries, he changed Lingard.

Those injuries are on Mourinho and Mourinho alone.
Zlatan's or Rojo's? Or Jones who gets injured regardless the manager?

Really happy Jose said Rojo is a bad LB but a very good CB glad he can see that. Also glad he singled out both Jones and Smalling they need to step up we all know what type of players Jose likes he has said it many times players who will put their body on the line. They are both at risk of being sold if they don't step up in the next few weeks injured or not.

They need to be gone. Dont know if we would get anything for Jones, who would pay money for a player that only ever plays half a season

He'll ship out Jones but Smalling will get one more season he has earned that he has given us a few decent seasons.

Is he calling for Smalling and Jones to play with an injury? I thought it was the physios' job to decide whether a player is fit to play or not.

On 63 points now. We had 64 in the entirety of the David Moyes season. Van Gaal got 70 in his first season and 66 in his second. I'd say with 6 games still to play, we're well on course to have our best post-Ferguson season.
Yea and with a less confident team in a tougher season. That’s a nice little stat, but it means f all if we don’t finish above 5th or win the europa. Hopefully both. Thanks for the info its proof of progress.

Exactly. What is it about OT that makes even super confident (seemingly) players like Zlatan nervous though? Not enough support from a crowd that was used to SAF and Fortress Old Trafford?
Think someone else said it but we fail at home due mainly to poor finishing and the other teams sit and counter approach. I guess we need face facts, this is Man United this is Old Trafford and the pressure is on, we bottled it in front of goal a little. We are not far off but we are missing that final 1% and a smile from lady luck(which all winning sides need) to be up round chelsea.

Couldn't watch the match today..

Can anyone tell me:

- how did martial and Rooney play aside from the goal?
- how did Blind play? I like Blind
I can see why Martial got motm, it was deserved too. He did a rashford against chelsea on burnley today. Played really well. Rooney had his best game for us in ages including when he was playing regularly. He fought and argued his way round the pitch, harried and harassed and deserved his goal probably should have had another too. If he could keep this up and improve game on game with a run out or two he might be important for the last 8 or 9 games. We need his experience badly for the run in round the squad and he needs some game time to have credibility.

For me, I thought Daily Blind was motm. I know Bailly will get all the praise and rightly so he had a beast of a game. But centre backs come as a pair and while Bailly was all fire n brimstone and bossed the defence. Blind was pulling the strings sweeping up behind or cutting out balls. We all know he doesn’t have the pace of the others but the fact he never really looks caught for pace (except when pulled into the corner/wing on a sprint) through the middle he is solid. And yesterday it was no exception.

Ok it was only Burnley and they are on their worst slump of the season. But it was a good test in a tough away game to bed in our centre back pairing and they passed with honours.

As long as the suspected injuries are only a bit of over exertion after 175 mins in 4 days and a huge effort against chelsea last sunday we should be in good fettle come Thursday.

I think the buzz words in this thread pretty much cover it, a solid, professional performance against a team that is staying just above relegation but who can be tough to play against at their grounds. Considering that we played 120 minutes on Thursday and the number of players injured or being rested, very delighted by the result. Martial with a real confidence-boosting game, also thought Young was excellent. I was uptight with Blind having to defend against Gray and he was dodgy at a couple of points but overall did pretty well. In all likelihood Rooney is out after the season so I hope he puts in a decent run.

Massive game this week that is going to take some real brilliance from Jose to pull off. Out of 10 today, I'll give us a 7. Referee gets close to a 0, incidentally.

Decent performance. We cannot afford to lose against City on Thursday. We have both City and Liverpool in our sights now.

Yeah, lets put the result at risk for giving some minutes to the kids.

That's just over exaggeration. Carrick came on in the 89th minute. You really think they would've scored 2 goals just if we had put TFM in
