Me too mate. Its just a cruel windup.

I haven't watched the youth team for a while but surely, surely there is someone better than this.

If this was Moyes he would have been lynched. All things considered it is one of the most ridiculous subs I have seen a Manchester United manager make, 20 mins to go, needing a goal and we bring on Ando. If I wasn't laughing, I would be crying.

De Gea- The only reason we've come away with a point.

Baclkett- Too Many hoofballs.

Jones- Better performance than before.

Evans- Stupid this week.

Valencia/Young- Just feck off please.

Mata- Lost.

Di Maria- Shinning light

Fletcher- I love you, please retire. You're done.

Rooney- Off form and not captain material. Only shines when we're winning/a good team.

RvP- Off form, please let him rest for a month and play Welbeck. He was dogshite today.
Agree DDG, Jones and the god that is Di Maria are the only ones who can hold their heads up. The rest should be ashamed. I was looking forward to this and have been let down yet again. Hoping for better against QPR with loads of new players in. Even Tom Cleverley is better than some of this lot and that says something.

Some hysterical comments on here, but poor performance, system doesn't work, too many gaps between defenders, midfield and attack, hope we change to 4 at the back after the international break and should have most back from injury to enable this to happen. Players should also be sharper.
Not going into individual performances but Di Maria played well in his first game and Jones has been good so far this season.

Don't think the defence has played badly other than the distribution but because the team is so spread out we are having to play long balls. We need a back 4 , compact and fast play but most of all need our confidence back.

Cannot believe some comments like we have spent £150m and it's still not better, none of them played:wenger: apart from Di Maria and he was our best player today

Lets just scrap August's player of the month award. I'm laughing as I write this, Scholes would still be our best CM, excluding the recruits.
Quick get these shower of shit away from the club before they infect the new commers.

Of course it''s bog standard. How old are you? 352 or 343 have been around for years. There is nothing special about. hardly anyone plays it? Virtually every team in Serie A played it last season!
I mean in England. None of the teams will have seen it before. And it is big standard in that it's been around for a long time but it's not in this country.

Especially when we had Adnan on the bench who could have at least tried to play ADM's role.

Our player of the month for August is our away fans.

Not true, Rooney was absolutely abysmal, his touch was worse than Torres' and passing was woeful he even got nutmegged and dispossed.
i dont agree...when he was in the hole he did well. even more so when we actually had young and valencia playing as wingers rather than wing backs. if we are being conservative in our attacking play you cannot expect the attackers to keep posession with half of the burnely side all up in their faces. we need to commit numbers forward. something van gaal is afraid of doing even against sides like brunely. i wonder why?

Why don't Burnley have ball boys? Seems like a trivial complaint, but every time the ball went out for a goal kick, the game took an age to restart. David De Gea was running down to the corner flag to get the ball. At one point, De Gea was stood there, clueless as to where a free ball even was.

Burnley's chant repertoire is pretty much Chelsea's. They've got #Burnley, Burnley, Burnleeeeey# and #C'mon Burnley#.

Not bitter at all.

Go on. Admit it, you are.

The angriest I've felt after a PL game in a long time. Keeping Fletcher on the pitch, picking Valencia, sticking to the 352 formation when it's clearly not working with these players.
I thought we were predictable under Moyes but I'd say we are even more so now. The players are letting themselves down, Rooney, RVP, Mata, Fletcher, Valencia, Evans all well below par today.
On paper we have good players, on the field we have no team.

I thought Evans passing was his strength today, just like you told me.... :wenger:

Not true, Rooney was absolutely abysmal, his touch was worse than Torres' and passing was woeful he even got nutmegged and dispossed.

He didn't play like a captain. He was anonymous for large parts of the match and when a decent chance came his way, he blew it. I was one of those advocating for him to get the armband last season but he hasn't done much to earn it yet this year. Still, it's early days but the way the Premiership is, if you're not quick off the mark, people start to write the season off before September.

Don't know if the 3-5-2 is supposed to work like this. But, it seems opposition teams are just laying off of the CBs when they have possession in our half and cut off passing lanes to the MFs. The result is that Evans and Blackett are trying to act as playmakers-with predictably bad results.

It's pretty bad without a MF who is comfortable taking the ball deep and driving forward. Fletcher made one of these types of runs-which isn't enough.

Sums it up nicely.

Would like to add:
LvG: Stop this fecking 3-5-2

Couldn't watch the game, but Burnley - 0 seems like a giant step forward to me! How many did we score?

LVG post-match comments:

- United were the stronger team, especially in the second half.
- United didn't play a good passing game in the first half
- United missed too many chances
- Didn't want to discuss the penalty incidents, but felt that there were many free kicks against us despite superior possession
- United didn't give many chances away. (Not too sure about that one, Louis)
- Progress is there, but 'Manchester United have to win'
- 2 points from 9 is 'disappointing'
- Incomings nothing to do with results, being very fluffy regarding who's coming in/ leaving.
- Re: Rojo, hopeful his work permit shall be sorted by the time we play QPR

Thank the lord for that.

I thought Evans passing was his strength today, just like you told me.... :wenger:
It is his strength, what are you getting at?
Yes he made mistakes today but show me a player that didn't. Oh, better add this just in case:wenger:

Obviously what I'm getting at is it is not his strength. His short passing has never been good. Not sure what games you watch. Occasionally he'll hit a sweet 70 yard pass that's about it. So to sum up after your sarcastic know it all comment the other day I will add this

I get it, getting used to a new system takes time but you would still expect some quality from the lunch of players we have. 2 shots at goal??? against Burnley. i am soooooo glad for the international break!

Yes i am disapointed and i was expecting 3 points. Yes we lost 7 points against not so good teams and we should win all 3. I understand all negativity.

But when you look on the other side we have 10 injuries. Team is not used to Van Gaal tactics. It wouldn't be diferent if we played 4:3:3 because it is not about formations, it is about way of playing football. Van Gaal want defenders to play with the ball even when he play with 2 CD. New faces didn't even came in. We will need time when they come in because it is not easy to fit 5 or 6 new faces in a team. I am not suprised that our attacker are not good because they are very dependable on other players.

Yes it is bad to already be 7 points behind but when i think how good can our team play with new faces in and when we will tick i am not worried anymore. City and Chelsea was not the best at the start last year too. When new manager comes in it takes time to click. On the ther hand under Moyes we used the same aproach as under Fergie and we didn't started so bad but we were worse and worse. Now we will be better and better.

Just imagine what a team we have without injuries.

...............De Gea
...Jones - Smalling - Rojo
Rafael......................Shaw
........Herrera - Di Maria
................Mata
......... Rooney - RVP

That is 5 changes to a team that started today. Not to mention that Di Maria played after training just two days with us and RVP came back just last week.

And if we would change the formation to 4:3:3 we have even stronger team.

..............De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
........Herrera - Blind
................Mata
.... Rooney - RVP - Di Maria

When i look at what we can put together without injuries i am not afraid anymore. I am confident that we will come strong after international games.

We have 10 players out injured and Rojo is waiting for a permit to play.

His proved this system works in the World Cup and considering the players he had it was successful.

We need to give it a chance, but I think he will change it as his always said he plays this system because the players he has available but know with the players his bought in I can see us playing 4-3-3.

But I still think we should be patient considering every team goes through a bad patch and hopefully this is ours and it's out the way.

On a positive note we can only improve and with the players we've bought in I for 1 am excited and can't wait for us to click and start destroying other teams:devil:

my two cents and I'm sure it has been said

the tactics/3-5-2 - Fair enough its how Van Gaal wants to play but in order for it to work you need technical players in midfield and defence who can pass, wing backs who can cross

Fletcher in midfield alone was a disaster and he should have brought Anderson on far earlier to support him and provide at least one midfield player who wants the ball.

again Valencia is trying to murder the full back by repeatedly pummeling him with crosses and the odd one which is miles overhit

Young's delivery was slightly less awful but still shite

Evans/Blackett - Evans was very poor again and both these players were especially poor in possession - Blackett's long balls were wasteful and Evans seems to have developed the knack of passing to opponents in awful positions a few times a game - just back from injury but you'd expect more.

Mata/Rooney - I really don't like when the two of these play together - Mata was a 5/10 today and was muscled out of it - supposed to be playing as a AM but should have dropped back much deeper to show for the ball and help Fletcher out - Rooney was ok I felt - showed a bit of imagination in looking for the ball but the movement around him seemed very poor - I think injury dictated both these guys would play but it didn't work for me and one of them should play in the second striker / #10 role.

Van Persie - lovely run, control and good attempt from that delicious Di Maria pass but looks rusty and starved of decent service otherwise

Di Maria - promising debut in a makeshift United team - he is really going to hurt teams if he gets the ball in the right areas in and around the box - picked the ball up deep on most occasions and Burnley struggled to pick him up - pleased with his first 70 mins and that was a super pass to RVP

Jones - fair play to him, another solid performance, dived in a wee bit early on giving away the free kick that struck our bar but solid otherwise and our strongest defender this year by a mile.

The future - I'm far from sold on the 3-5-2, I can't see Evans, Jones etc suddenly becoming accomplished passers of the ball and our build up play was far too slow in this system. Robben was the big outlet for Holland in this system yet he played advanced close to RVP. Will this be Di Maria's position.

Maybe in the long run, with players returning from injury, another signing perhaps this might work but given the players available would it not make more sense to play a 4-2-3-1?

-----------------------------DDG---------------------------
Rafael------------Jones---------------Rojo----------Shaw
----------------------Carrick ------Herrera-----------------
Januzaj----------------------Rooney--------------Di Maria
------------------------------RVP---------------------------

we could have played a variation of this today and I think we would have won

I can't be bothered reading everything but yes I agree. That sucked.

What's more concerning than anything is how few chances we are creating against very average sides. Di Maria was the only one who looked dangerous and was able to make a few chances for us.
Everyone else was poor. Just constant backwards and sidewards passing. No one can beat a man or even create space for themselves, as soon as our players get squared up by a defender they are absolutely clueless.
Mata has to be dropped for Januzaj, Januzaj is clever on the ball and can ghost past players and Rooney cannot play in the no 10. he offers absolutely nothing creatively. It has to be either Rooney or RVP up top.

I thought our passing was abysmal 1st half, more longballs than Pullis managed Stoke, 2nd half when Burnley got tired our passing improved due to more room/less pressing, but still Burnley were too comfortable boxing in their penalty area, no width today was clearly evident, particuarly 2nd half.

I can't believe Rooney has turned into little more than a poacher from what he originally started as.
I thought Di Maria had a great debut considering how shit the rest of his teammates looked at times.
Jones was really good also.

Time will tell but I honestly think Rooney will still play like shit for as long as he will, LVG will not touch him for whatever reason.

It concerns me too. It almost seems at times like Rooney, RvP and Mata are contractually obliged to start every game...

One of them should be dropped, the three of them are completely ineffectual playing together.

We play more long balls under LvG than we did under Moyes. Is this the "philosophy" he keeps talking about? Because it was very evident today.

  • I'm not sure about the 352 or this philosophy - passing out of defence has been dangerous; while I do love watching it, it's not working with these players. We didn't concede any this match, but we almost did again (mainly due to Evans). De Gea's kicking was also bad today.
  • McManaman said this and I surprisingly agree - the defenders are not comfortable with the ball. They all act like they don't want the ball and are afraid to run forward to draw players away when there is space to run in.
  • We miss Carrick. We can't keep the ball anymore, and the link between defence and midfield is horrible.
  • Di Maria was a great spark, still getting used to the league, but should/could of had 2 assists today. Great balls to RVP and Mata.
  • If that wasn't Ashley Young, that is a clear cut penalty. A clear shove, and I don't know why no-one even appealed and the ref didn't even give it any thoughts. The handball was a penalty too but the referee just wasn't going to give it.
  • Burnely's defensive tactic was to leave Valencia open so United would pass it to him and let him cross. It worked as I only remember one cross going in. Same move every time with the same results. I have been very supportive of him in the past, but really, just pushing it onto your right foot then crossing it hasn't worked for the past 2-3 seasons; it probably won't work again.
  • I don't know what was with Mata today, but that is the worst I've ever seen him game. Out of the game, and didn't make runs into spaces to receive the passes. I can forgive him for slipping when he should have scored, but I can't for crossing it at every single opportunity. Our best chance came from Di Maria playing short passes; I can't remember a single cross that came off well (bar the corner which Rooney got to if that counts as a cross).
  • There was a time where De Gea saved then got up. My stream cut to a replay whereas in the past (under Fergie) it would have been an instant counter attack. I understand that we are not as quick anymore, but still.
  • Under Sir Alex, the number of extra time added meant how many extra minutes we had to score. So far this season, we haven't looked like scoring late at all; we didn't bring on extra attackers either (despite out attacks looking dire).
  • Not sure what is with all the criticism with RVP was - he wasn't great, but I felt he was the best out of our attackers (not including Di Maria). He made runs with create opportunities when he was on the pitch - something I can't say about Rooney, Mata or Welbeck.
The two week break is a major blessing - hopefully the likes of Di Maria, Hererra, Rojo, Blind will have some time to work with the squad and for the injured players to return. I do have faith that fortunes will change after the international break.
