LC L League Cup Quarter-Final

Bristol City 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

This si worrisome. It's not just the player ability but the attitude. Seems like they looked down on opponent and decided to play as they want- individuals' game. And the sign has been there vs Brighton, Watford & just at the weekend vs West Brom. We got complacent for no reason.

Fining them won't change anything. There is something that is either not working with his tactics or something that isn't even worked on during practice (ball movement, passing quickly).
I don't think it's tactic. I doubt even the lower league coach couldn't see our attackers playing like main men and instead making decoy run for other, they decided to be static and stay in shooting zone. Yeah, and taking plenty of shots/ dribbling themselves when the passing option is on.

For all the genius Mourinho is, he plays two of our only wingers as full backs, and two strikers being Martial and Rashford on the wings. This team is completely unbalanced with is contributing to our lacklusture attacking play. Was 75 mil for Lukaku and 30mil for lindelof well spent, I dont think so. Like it or not, City this season are the benchmark, and Guardiola addressed the situation, while mourinho has not.

Total lack of class from Jose there. They were a bit lucky. If that was true it shouldn't have been said. That fact was they deserved it. Made himself and Man Utd look small time with that comment.
Oh well I'm going to bed.

Really? Someone who just turned 22 and 20 and you're criticizing their consistency, despite them being productive as feck all season? They've been fine and very, very far from being any sort of issue.

Well if you don't believe that they are a concern then you may be one of our fans that is overrating our players and burying your head in the sand. 'Sqwaka' might say they have been fine, but the reality is they don't deliver good performances on a consistent basis. It is like 1 in 3 or even 1 in 4 good games and that just isn't good enough for me, your expectations may be lower however. Obviously at their age you do expect a little bit of inconsistency, but not to the degree that these two are.

How do you work that out?

Romero - bit part, occasional games
Shaw/Darmian/Blind - similar
Zlatan/Rojo, barely played since long term injuries
McTominay - young guy, not played many games

Even Lindelof has had to be eased in and hasn't played loads.
Darmian Martial Miki Rashford Pogba Lukaku, and not so much Blind & Shaw have all been starters

Players looked like they couldn't be arsed so why should I be?

This has been a result that has been coming for weeks now.
The danger is that other teams in the PL will finally see that if you are positive and take us on we are there for the taking.
Our attacking play and passing is so poor, I honestly can't see any plan or system to it.

How we are 2nd is beyond me.

Rashford and Martial has a poor performance but seriously, it’s just one game.

Ibrahimovic has just come back from a long term injury, he is not finished just rusty.

Darmian is shit and we all know it.

Romero is a good keeper, just had a bad game, poor guy.

Mike Dean couldn’t pull his shorts up any higher. I will provide the Lego if you steal his shoes.

At the end of the day, the mrs has just given me the nod for an early night so not all is lost

With our luck as United fans at the moment, she probably just wants you to rub her feet...

While she farts...

And talks about Pep Guardiola...

He said they made their luck.

Reasoning based off the last time we played both teams in the league they easily beat us.

  I mean again - you understand each match is different right and has no bearing on what happened earlier? By your reasoning, we should just forfeit the match against Huddersfield because they beat us easily too?

Why can't we pass the football like a proper football team? It's incomprehensible.
Actually it really makes me lose my head sometime even against weaker teams we can't do good passes we always rushing panicking and we can't keep control of the play it's like we are programmed to play with only one game plan.

Well he needs to change that like now. He could probably get away with it before but it doesn't work nowadays. It doesn't matter how many good players we buy, they'll still play like our current attackers because they're not being coached properly.

He hasn't changed since he started coaching he won't change now.

If Man Utd goes down, it should be in a competitive match against a top rival.

Agreed. The culture at the club is not good.

That is football...these results happen all the time, so the result or the performance doesn't really bother me tbh.

However it does show that the team is lacking in many areas, but we all knew that already so resting a few first team players and giving a few run outs to the guys that haven't played much lately, does really tell us anything we didn't already know.

Move on.

Really don't bother with that result. Mike Dean was as usual dog shit.

Our attackers was more interested to go solo ( Rashford and Martial were poor )
I really liked McTominay performance, he deserve more game time.

Go on the next game. Congrats to Bristol.

Agree Mctom impressed me, i would like to see given a chance ahead of Herrera.

Take absoloutely nothing away from Bristol City they played like a team who wanted to win and we didn't.

All the talk about classing the Carabao Cup as trophy last year as well, should all be ashamed of themselves and just think our away fans travelled only for them to half arse it against a championship side.

Shambles. That was no team out there tonight, just a bunch of individuals loathing around. Couldn’t defend all night but what bothered me was that we couldn’t string two passes together despite the fact that we had a lot of first team players out.

Not that fussed we won’t be in the semi final, as we won it last year and the two weeks rest we get from not qualifying is welcome. But that performance was appalling.

We lost the battle in every department. Our defense back ups just aren't good enough, Darmian for instance was beaten at every take on. we looked light in midfield, McTominay isn't an ideal cover for Pogba to have more freedom to create.

In attack we were a little bit unlucky in the first half with Rashford's effort off the upright. In the second half there was absolutely no attacking plan whatsoever, sad to imagine that we had all our strikers on the pitch.

Credit to Pogba, he played well. Was the only one likely to create anything. Well deserved result. Time to offload some dead weight.

And one of our rivals will walk away with a trophy at the end of it.

What advantage do we hope to gain exactly? 3 games is a lot, but a squad such as ours should be able to handle it. The final is usually earlier anyway and winning it can often hand a confidence boost.

It’s not the end of the world by any means but tonight I am bitterly disappointed in a huge wasted opportunity for us.

As with the form at the moment all 3 of them teams could beat us and that could have a far bigger affect on mood right now it can just be put down to one of those days.

For the bigger picture we need to keep CL spots due to sponsors targets i think we will get a few players in Jan and cement 2nd place but go for a CL semi as we can beat the Euro teams counter attacking.

Im not happy its one less trophy but at least its the lesser one and we only won it last year.

Though some of our young players need to stop hiding and hoping Pogba will lay it on a plate every time.

The platform isn't there for them to perfrom. We saw what happened when Pellegrini gave Sterling no instructions and he had to improvise. Two of those players are coached whilst the others are told to run and imrpovise over 40 m. Give Mou Sterling and Sane and we would have the same problem.

Even the Madrid players complained about his lack of attacking structure.

The tactics can only take so much of the blame though. Rashford and Martial making wrong decisions on the pitch is on them.

I really hope I'm wrong but I can't see Martial ever getting a level of consistency in his game. He looks like he is going to be one of them frustrating guys all his career unfortunately.

On another day, our attack would have scored 2-3. We weren't bad attacking wise, just sloppy and unlucky and in Rashford's case, idiotic.

Players won't be demoralized by a loss to a Championship side because occasional cup upsets are the norm.
On another day in an alternate universe perhaps.
There is nothing occasional about us anymore. We keep on breaking all the negative records.
It is not only a lack of effort but a lack of quality as well. Bristol didn't have 11 players in defence they came at us and deservedly won. Counter attacking is supposed to be Jose's strength and we can't even do that right.

Darmian was fecking woeful. Got turned inside out every single time. Weren't AC Milan interested in the summer? Should have sold.

Sky are saying Napoli want him.

I suggest we tie a bow on him!

Our 2nd XI players just aren't much cop are they? And the 1st XI needs to be at pretty much full strength before we look anything like anything like the real deal. (We do very occasionally) - and we are 2nd & so on...

But not great (poor) the transfers in the last half dozen years or so innit?

The ref was astonishingly bad tonight. What was with the arrogant gestures even when United players weren't close to him? Football in general nowadays pisses me off in that every slight bit of contact is a foul. You literally can't tackle either. The way any player going to ground is a given free-kick these days is just weird...the refs just can't help themselves but blow up..

It is worrying to watch Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Pogba and Mhiki create so little against a team such as Bristol City.

Wow! Your really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that excuse. Would you have said that if we had beaten them 2-3?
I don't care about this donkey cup. It's a consolation prize and not very consoling either. Id prefer we didn't play it at all. Why risk injuries/suspensions and get fatigued by a competition that if we win pays less than 2 weeks wages. Of course if we get into the final we should try our best but seriously it's just a competition for the reserves.

We created enough to beat them. We lost because we were playing rojo who just isn't match fit. Mentally fell asleep for both goals.

This is what happens when our diva players step on the pitch and expect an instant win just because of the badge on their shirts. Congratulations to Bristol City, well done and well played.

There is no system for them to fall back on so they will be inconsistent by that very nature.

Liverpool have an attacking structure and triggers as do Chelsea under Conte. Arsenal don't which is why their team is so inconsistent as well. As I said already, we saw what happened when Sterling had no instructions. Give Pep Martial and he would be on the Ballon D'or shortlist.

People forget Drogba never had a world class season till Mourinho left.

Group of pathetic cowards terrified at the prospect of facing City twice.
Wow if that's the case I don't want any of them around my club. But for me they just didn't care and didn't want to give a shit about it, seeing Rashford today made me sick.
