EL W Europa League Round of 32 2nd Leg

AS Saint-Etienne 0:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

One thing Mourinho demands is to be able to trust his players. I can't help but think Eric has lost a little tonight.

What a crowd though!

Bailey didn't even foul him, much less warrant another yellow card.
That was bullshit from the ref

Maybe... but I want us to have a more 'manageable' team to play in between all our league fixtures.
Think I'd rather get Roma out the way ASAP. Would give us an easier finish to the tournament, and if they beat us, then better doing it in the last 16 than playing 6 extra games then losing in the final.

Mourinho probably regretting the side he picked, he should've played someone like Lingard instead of Mickhi and maybe Rashford upfront.

I'm praying we don't see Fellaini on Sunday!

Mikki should have never started today when we have a cup final on the weekend

Fantastic support from the St Etienne fans, even when the tie was over. There'll be in trouble again for the flares, but they were superb again.

We've got the Chelsea cup tie between the next Europa games. So not for me.

And what if we saved him for the final and he still got injured after 20 minutes? Players get injured, get over it.

Leave him on the bench all the time wrapped in cotton wool.

Absolutely. The Caf is the first to complain if the manager fields weak teams no matter what it is. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mikki on the bench on Sunday....Mourinho is very clever with mind games.....:smirk:

Yeah, but they do tend to get more injuries when they play less than three days after their last complete game.

Professional job. Gloss taken off by injury to Miki who I was looking forward to seeing slice Southampton apart on Sunday. Thought I could then watch the Hibs v Hearts replay but some bollocks UEFA rule means it can't be shown on TV when Champions League is on. Seriously! FFS!

Missed the start, saw the goal then missed all of the 2nd half as had to do some diy. Glad we got win, shame about injuries, hoping they're not too bad. @GifLord have you got clip of the Bailly yellow / red cards?
Second yellow only

Same here; Hibs are my Scottish team. I'm listening to commentary online on Radio Scotland.

Cruise control job.

Roll on a decent draw on Friday

Do we want Tottenham out, or in? Ideally if they could stay in for a few more rounds and lose horribly, rucking up their league form. That'd be marvellous

We want Tottenham in. Even if we draw against them, we will smash them.

All hail Mourinho. great manager

Simply put, Mourinho is brilliant. We're going places with him.

Never a second booking. However, Bailly has a tendency to be too eager, which makes him go for unnecessary challenges. He'll learn with time and experience defending is not just about winning one on one duels at all costs.

1-0 Hibs

What was the stat, one defeat in 25 games or something now!

And that defeat was the second leg v Hull in the league cup, so in effect was barely a defeat either,

The player bought it, but some refs get excited by a player making 2 fouls close by like that.
Most refs i'm sure would have eased him down after that.

Why did Martial not play especialy after that pre-math interview (was Jose saving him for the final)?

I wish he did not play Mkhi ffs. Anyone know what the extent of the injury is?

Mourinho reported as saying he thinks both Miki and Carrick have no chance of playing on Sunday but he will wait for confirmation after tests.

Given how well St Etienne played in the first half at OT I thought they played really badly today. Expected a much better performance from them. Glad to say it also shows how much better we're playing in general, we trotted all over them. I got the impression Jose this evening could have done a Shankly - take your shirts off lads and go home, I'll just send the shirts out for the second half !:)

The tie was over, so why risk our biggest guns with a cup final coming mere days away?

Reckless playing such a strong team with a 3 nil lead, now we are without Carrick, and Micky

Excellent away performance in Europe. The home fans were amazing, but their team underperformed, which suited us nicely.

I love how annoyed Ibra gets when he doesn't get the pass/cross he wants

I really don't get this risking players mentality. Our players are being asked to train as hard as they play in matches. If he was going to pull a hamstring, he could have easily have pulled it in this game or in training sometime this week. That's the thing with injury, it can happen anytime. It can happen with him walking, getting out of bed, etc.

The tie was not over, not until Miki ended tie with his goal.

I don't understand people complaining we started with such a strong team, what should we have done, rested all 11 for Sunday? That's the difference between playing football manager on a PC and being an actual world class manager. In Mourinho's mind, we needed the first goal to kill the tie, and we got that by playing a strong side.

Imagine if we went a goal or two down in the first half, we could have ended up going out.

I trust Jose

We have 24 cup finals left, thats how Jose will look at it. So i'd not be worrying about the who we play, more concentrate on ourselves, rotation, rest time, injuries, suspentions. If the atitude is good we will go far. If we take our foot of the gas mentally we will trip up.

He didnt say that on MUTV, Misinterpretation ?
Its on sky he said both likely to miss cup final.

The away fans are excellent as usual. While all Saint-Eteinne fans are gone, United fans are still singing. You can see Paul wants to just join in. :)
