Arsenal 1:3 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Genuinely horrible performance overall by us. And I never say this. But yielding 75% possession to the other team after taking a early 2 goal lead, making it difficult on ourselves, sitting back and defending like Huddersfield or Birghton. Truly...how the mighty have fallen.

If the world has seen this game, they have seen United being battered by Arsenal.

Great result and amazing attacking play by us when we had the ball. The very few times we had it, we made it count.

But, this victory belongs to David De Gea more than anyone else. Without him in goal, we weren't winning that.

It hurts to see us play like this everytime after we take the lead. It's frustrating!

Pogba's red was unfortunate. Hope he can appeal that as it didn't look intentional to my biased eyes. Three more games without him, with one against City, will be a difficult battle.

This has to be a wind up right?

Mourinho needs to be smart and rest all the key players against CSKA.

We're already without Pogba. Lukaku looks like he needs a break.

we should have won that game by a countrymile. Cricket score stuff.

typical mou bus and wait for a loose ball counter attack and hope for the best performance, but have to commend on united strikers for taking full advantages.

difference between two teams tonight was being clinical in front of goal. That said, you guys will get demolished vs city if you were played off the park by us when we got outplayed by city only a few weeks back.

Oddly enough football doesn't work like that, especially not in a derby.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. If being played off the park is getting trounced 3-1 at home then I hope United get played off the park in all tge the big games.

Nobody saw the images of Pogba heatedly discussing with Rui Faria before losing his head and getting expelled?

Noticed him getting frustrated by a fair few teammates as well today. He was pretty fired up.

Didn't see the exchange with Faria though.

No. Today. I actually felt the most frustrated in all games since Mourinho took over. Because we made them look like a world class team.

33 shots on Target against Manchester United?? Which team has stats like that? Not even Real Madrid could manage that against us on any other day.

This sitting back and defending, not wanting the ball bs is too frustrating.

De Gea had something like 15 saves apart from a few that went whiskers wide off the goal posts. It is nothing but an early Christmas miracle, so many shots didn't find the back of the net due to either great goalkeeping or poor finishing.

No opposition, against United, home or away should be able to boast of such high numbers of shots on target.

Our defending was very poor today, thank god for De Gea, on the upside our attack looked lethal every single time we countered. I'm estatic with the result.

Jesus ducking christ we just beat Arsenal 3-1 away last 15 mins with 10 men
Football is not for you mate

I am new here but absolutely buzzing with that team performance. For all of Arsenal's possession, we looked deadly on the counter.

What is the point of 25+ yard shots at De Gea? More corners?

Pogba did not deserve to be sent off. It will be rescinded I suspect.

In a Mourinho team, when the keeper is the best player, something's wrong with the defense. But we have two centerbacks starters out injured and the midfield two was clearly underperforming. And Arsenal played really really well offensively, must be said.

No one will look at that game and say United played well. And if you're being honest, you'd agree.

For most of the game we were shi**ing bricks.

And thanks for your advice, but I'd rather watch my team be 2-0 up and in control of the game than be 2-0 up and look like a bottom-tier team clutching onto their lives for a win. Not against Arsenal.

Some would not be satisfied at all. If we go and park the bus and come away with a 0-1 win, it becomes a disgrace. If we go and attack and open up the game, where the other team has more and better opportunities to score yet we win 1-3 away then our defence is not good enough. FFS Just make up your minds.
Yes our defence was not good enough and DeGea bailed us out as he has a lot of times but this was Arsenal at home we played and won 1-3 and people are having a go.

As said I don't think football is for you. Arsenal played well, have a great home record and are in pretty good form. We weren't going to go to The Emirates and blow them away sadly.

To go and score three goals (and hit the woodwork) whilst defending with 10 men for the last 20 minutes is pretty good work I'd say. If Pogba had stayed on the pitch I think we would have scored even more. Perhaps you need a bit of a reality check mate.

even if i grant that, De Gea still pulled off numerous saves that should have been goals. the double save and the lukaku saves in particular. multiple saves > one goal created (which was heavily reliant on Martial's assist).
I think i didn't make myself clear. I strongly agree De Gea was MoM. I just felt the need to point out that Lingard(not the most popular guy), was indeed the most influential guy in at least 1 of our goals.

De Gea played brilliantly but that's his job isn't it. You can't criticise United cause De Gea for having a good game!

That was rolling back the years... a proper united-arsenal game, with enough talking points to keep us all going for days. Although Pauls challenge was completely accidental, and I'd take a punt an appeal, I cant see us having him for city, which is a huge blow for us.

Great game, great result and some great performances

Yeah - it wasn’t pretty at times. But how many times have been all over teams and didn’t get a result? So please enjoy this pivotal result and saviour it! I know we had big breaks but that’s football. I would be absolutely over the moon with the same display if we get the result against City.

I am not criticising him for having a great game. I am criticising people who are having a go at United. We won 3-1 away at Arsenal who are in very good form and thumped Huddersfield by 5 goals while we lost to Huddersfield. What do people expect to happen? We thump them 8-2 every game? Jose could have gone and parked the bus and everyone would say it is a disgrace.

No sorry mate I was agreeing with you. People shouldn't say United were shit because De Gea played well. It's a team game and he was sensational.

Absolutely these. We don't attack. Moans.

We defend too much - Moans.

Sometimes, you don't pick at every lil fault and just take a seat on the roller coaster that has been United since the early 1900's.

Agree with you mate. He was sensational but that is his job. That said our defence was not good today but without Jones and Bailly our defence looks dodgy at times. I was not able to see the whole game so how did Lindelorf do today?

Reminder that Arsenal not only were unbeaten at home, but also had a 100% record too.

We went to their ground and put them to the sword, scoring 3 goals in the process. We deserve plenty of credit. DDG helped yes but it was 2-0 before Arsenal even started playing.

As stated in the post you've already read - You can keep your advice to yourself. Thanks much.

Regarding your analysis though, Arsenal had most of their shots on target when we had eleven players on the pitch.

With your bolded part, are you suggesting they are better than us? Or looked better than us? Or played better than us? If so, then congrats, we both agree that they did play much better than us. Thankfully, we finished better than them.

Agreed. I'd take the punt at an appeal. Don't expect it to be anything but dismissed, but worth a punt. I think it is hard for the FA to overturn a ref's decicion on the field. This would never ever in any world be a retrospective ban. In which case it should of course not be a ban in the first case.

Off for the night. Have a good one!

The defence was shaky but it's not first choice. People seem to forget Rojo has been out for a year and Lindeloff new to the league.

That said Arsenal didn't really threaten for the last 25 minutes. They had a penalty shout but that was about it. Second half I thought we defended well and when Pogba went and we moved zonal Arsenal didn't have a sniff.

We beat arsenal at full strength. A stadium where they've been superb for ages. Alexis sanchez, lacazette, and ozil all on the same pitch. For me this was the sort of performance we would have seen with fergie against the top teams away from home. Ofcourse you need to rely on luck, but i believe we started really positively and looking to play the ball forward on every occasion. We scored some great team goals, especially the third one. Pogba, lingard and martial were fantastic. Dave was GOD. Team should be immensely proud of themselves.

The Pogba red will annoy me tomorrow when I start thinking in long game terms, but right now nothing can dampen the beautiful smugness of an away win at Arsenal, a proper big game performance, and the return of Jose’s annual schooling of Wenger.

Sums up my mood nicely. Been a while since I’ve enjoyed a MOTD this much. All about savouring the result now. Derby anxiety can feck off. Will be more than enough time for that in the week ahead.

My point is we don't need to concede control of the game every time we take the lead. Not wanting the ball, sitting back deep, soaking the pressure and trying to defend for a good chunk of 90 minutes is an absurd way to react after going 2 goals up. A better way to be to keep possession, slow down the tempo and control the midfield.

no mate. If that had been on our player you would have been screaming red. It was bad
