How are we getting top 4 exactly?

We going to beat Chelsea? no
We going to beat liverpool? no
We going to beat City? no
We going to beat Arsenal? no
We going to beat Spurs? no

We are up shit creek here without a raft, never mind a paddle.

Chelsea and City are beyond our reach. Are you seriously suggesting that we have no chance against Spurs or against two clubs we've already beaten this season?

This is the most frustrated I have been after a match this season. Really thought this was going to be our night. Our statement.

I feel deflated and its all about that top 4

Doubt we can build title winning team like that.
Well, I certainly commented at the start of the season that we were only half way through a rebuilding process. RB was a key for me, amongst other positions. So I think a good summer with VG could take us much closer. But you just don't know how the Glazers are thinking. Ancelotti might be available...

We're shit. No manager and no amount of money can't stop the inevitable. The gravy stopped flowing with SAF's retirement. Time to wait for our next era of greatness

Maybe I was watching a different match but enjoyed the game despite losing, first half was good and had Bellerin been sent off as he should, the outcome would have been different. Yes Valencia made a mistake as have many many other players but the over-reaction is unbelievable.
Substitutions I presume Shaw was feeling his hamstring and Carrick's presence presumably to tighten up midfield as Herrera was not having the best of games.
Januzaj's dive was embarrassing but ADM was definitely tugged although stupid reaction to the ref who did us very few favours.
If we beat Arsenal in the league that is more important

most sensible post I've read in this thread

Love it.

We are going to be the new liverpool. Just living on our past... Hopefully, not for that long...

Can't believe we lost it like that. If you give your best and then they come in and boss us, you just have to hold your hands up and say 'too good'. But to give away a goal like in that manner in a quarter final cup tie? Very disappointing. But we need to move on and hoping the lads don't lose confidence because of this. Shit happens.

We need some quality defenders. Repeat.

And well. AdM fell a bit easy, correct. But the situation is identical to the Sanchez freekick a couple of minutes earlier, the freekick - not the yellow card on Sanchez.
What happens after the first yellow is just horrible, shame on our Argentinian. I wonder how Oliver knew it was Di Maria, Rooney hand is 10 cm away.

And Bellerin should have had a second yellow. Whatever.

DDG magical, as usual. fecking love that guy, too bad his favourite meal scored on him.

Herrera being subbed off and Valencia being left with no support the whole game cost us, poor mistake by him but it was bound to happen at some point, he was being run raged the whole game with no help. But the sub of Herrera baffles me, he keeps the ball and is the link between defence and attack, as soon as he went off we just sat deep with Carrick and Blind acting like two extra defenders and then a huge gap between them and Fellaini, Rooney etc up top.

Guess we will see,if he gets a sack,i fear we gonna hear same bs about giving a chance to all players first before make decision in summer transfer window.

I'm no fan of chopping and changing managers ...... but Sam Allardyce could be got. Football's a simple game and Sam would balance the team and build it from the back.

And to think we've gone from possibly bringing in the greatest manager in the world, collector of CL trophies, to now speculating about Sam Allardyce.

Apparently LVG said Valencia was our best player on the park?!!

What was most disappointing was how, after an exciting and admittedly "too" open 1st half, LVG makes two changes with the seeming objective of tightening things up and slowing play down.
And this, in a nutshell, is why van Gaal is always going to struggle to win us over. This is not the way we do things at our club.

Most have summed it up. Positive first half. We played at a high tempo, created chances and looked pretty threatening. Second half, for one reason or another (possibly injuries) we took off Herrera and Shaw, who I personally thought looked pretty bright.

I also think the ref didn't help. Bellerin should have definitely been off. Although Arsenal were winning at the time, I think we would have probably got a goal back if it was 11 vs 10. Unfortunately, Di Maria ended up getting sent off, and from there on, the game was more or less done. A few hopefully long balls to Fellaini, but I felt Arsenal dealt with it pretty well.

Why is everybody talking like we deserved to lose? We didn't deserve to lose tonight, we gifted the game to them, and narrowly lost after having played well imo. This game was actually an improvement on the game we won at the Emirates earlier this season.

Also, I just can't get myself to care as much as everybody here about the FA cup. I just hope Di Maria's red card won't cost us against Tottenham.

Don't know anymore, 10 games left to salvage some dignity from a god awful season. Just want it over with, this season is no better than last, except we're a few places higher in the league. Imo we have no chance of staying in the top four. We have bollocked it up against so called lesser teams. This cup run was all we had.

What the feck were the subs at half time all about? Herrera Sub and turn back Tony's inability to play football killed it for us

I was wrong about not needing a RB in the summer.

So, so wrong...

We have a RB. His name is Rafael da Silva and he's actually pretty decent. No, he's not on the all-world XI but when fit -- and I realize that's an issue -- the man plays very good football.

And that's the problem, he's a permanent crock. Then when he recovers from injury he needs a bit of time to come back to his best and then he promptly gets injured again...

I'd love to know what his longest run of games before injury/suspension is since Red Nev got taken round the back of the Hawthorns and put down.

Good post. I'd add - Shaw seemed to be struggling with Chamberlain a little. If it was tactical it would also have made sense. In the end he went off injured pretty early second half anyway. And Januzaj went looking for the penalty but was definitely tugged (outside the area) we can agree to disagree about whether that constitutes a dive or not
