What nonsense is this? Don't want to be in the CL because we might get thrashed? Have a word lad.

What good has getting thrashed in the champions league done Arsenal in the last 10 years? Have they gained experience? Other than experience that they're crap?? I'd rather we gathered some momentum and built a team that got used to winning than a team used to losing.

Would've been shitting myself anyway tonight but I got two tickets to the final in the UEFA ballot so....I didn't enjoy it.

Please God make the semi a nice dull easy win (yeah, right).

Just personal opinion. I genuinely think he looked decent tonight. People extend forgiveness to Martial due to second season syndrome but not to Rashford. Hes 19 ffs, very few player are clinical at his age, and even the ones that are often don't amount to much.

I didn't mention Ibra. He's scored most of our goals this year but given his age and experience he should have chipped in with an RvP level of goals. Should be on 30 as a bare minimum now with no excuses.

Absolutley not, I extend no forgiveness to Martial altough I do understand second season can be difficult, he has majorly underperformed and played a poor season overall. Rashford has had a very good season, has shown great mentality, altough I still feel he is wasted on the wing as he is a pure striker and needs to play in the centre. I'am just saying he has missed far too many chances tonight to be able to say he played a very good game. Mentality wise this kid is in a good place and he has some amazing talent and his confidence seems to be good aswell but he really needs to be less wastefull in front of goal. He had the chances to score atleast 3 goals, I'am glad he scored the winner but we absolutley need our strikers not be this wastefull, again he did better than Ibra who was even more wastefull but imagine Anderlecht scoring some lucky goal right at the end and the dream is over there and then. We need to win these sort of games with more comfort and Rashford being more clinical is vital for that. So I'am happy with the lad and I think for being 19 years old he is fantastic but next to all the praise he really needs to work on putting those easy chances to bed and being more deadly in front of the goal.

Ibra's poor play and injury. Rashford's superb play and match winning goal.

It felt like the passing of a torch; the end of one legendary era and the start of a new one.

Sorry, but for me this is such a nonsense statement. Arsenal have staled in the CL due to a combination of a manager who's well past his sell by date, and a complete inability to properly invest in the team in order to acquire top notch players.

Yes, we might get battered around in our first stint back in the CL. The main difference is we'll try out damn hardest to rectify it. Arsenal board don't give a sh*t, as long as the CL revenue is there, why bother to improve the squad?

Whoever comes in after Arsene will have the exact same problems sooner or later, unless the board are willing to pull their finger out their collective arse holes and do something about it...

Some great attacking play, but absolutely woeful finishing and terrible game management. What else is new. Delighted to be through.

Rashford is incredible. What a game he had. Pogba I thought was great as well, if not once again suffered from poor finishing. Mhki was great in only moments, but he was absolutely brilliant in those. Shaw and Valenica did very well defensively and Shaw put in an effort in attacking as well.

I feel bad for Martial today. He was given very little time and a lot of pressure to perform today. I can see why Jose was shouting at him for the first half performance and he responded reasonably well I think. It certainly won't help that people will naturally compare him to Rashford of today. I hope he will be given a proper chance to compete next game.

Wow. Apart from that I agree with your post.

Who did Mourinho applaud at the end? Looked cynical and aimed at Anderlecht's support?

On a bright note, has anyone noticed that the goals are beginning to come in from other players apart from Zlatan?

Miki now has three goals in his last three games. And Rashford has scored three in his last four games.

The boys really need to start banging in the goals.

Applauded the Anderlecht supporters - in a genuine manner. They were louder and more enthusiastic than the United fans for the entire 120 minutes.

Was not cynical, he just applauded a group of away fans for the amazing support they had given their team and for the good match their team put up. They were almost the only fans I heard for the enitre 120 minutes, like 4k people versus 70k people and it is the 4k you hear all night, they deserve to be applauded for doing that.

He was also given some credit for it on Belgium tv, saying it was big off him to do that (altough they questioned if he would still do it had Anderlecht gone through on a lucky goal)

They lost 3:2 to Schalke. We looked poor in some parts of the game but even then we had about 6, 7 big chances to score. It will be a different game and I wouldn't fear them.
lol they went a goal down in ET and with 10 men fought back to win 4-3, against a side a lot better than anderlecht

Thanks. You never know with him. :wenger:

That was the most nervous I got for a few years and I'm not a big fan of this competition. It's pretty important we qualify for the Champions league.

The match story was a typical Old Trafford game this season.

We're not Arsenal and we're not getting thrashed in the CL, calm down. We will strengthen in the summer for the CL if we get it.

All this talent and they look like a Sam Allardyce side hoofing it up at times. The extra 30 minutes wont help tired legs but at least they are through. Rashford is feeling confident the last few games which is great.

Old Trafford must be a lot louder it felt like people were always waiting a disaster to happen and just can't raise their voices we should let all our away fans sit together in a stand and let them do what they do, I know O.T this season is almost a nightmare for us but come on players need support and shouting.

It doesn't work like that, we are a very big club we have to play in the European best competition to attract big players and for maby other reasons and why not we try and take our chances and go for it? We as Manchester United fans just cannot think like that.

I truly believed with the missed chances it was just not going to be our night - especially after all season of not doing the business at home in the league.

So frustrating to create so many clear openings and just waste chance after chance. Whomever we get next is not going to gift us as many chances as Anderlecht so we need really need to get it together. Hopefully though Rashford scoring now 3 in 4, maybe just maybe we will see him carry us through the rest of the season along with one or two other people.

I really don't get these comments about people criticising the match going supporters. In the East stand upper, where I have my season ticket, it is always noisy, with the crowd vocal in their support of the team tonight, as ever. I can't speak for the other stands as I never go there now, but I'm sure that the Stretford End isn't quiet - it never was when I used to frequent it a few years ago when I got occasional tickets there as an Official member. Some people like to moan for the sake of moaning. Yes, the Anderlecht fans were vocal and credit to them, but that's the norm for a small group of away fans penned together, United fans show that on plenty of occasions.

No mention of the high levels of support we get for our home Europa League matches, a competition derided by some and poorly supported by many other English clubs when they were in it. There were over 71,000 present tonight, so let's not celebrate that, but start a moan about the noise levels. Ffs!

Even in our worst season ever with Moyes we weren't thrashed by Bayern and we played a close game with them so please I don't like comparing us to a team like Arsenal.

Some are overreacting because the result came by difficulty but the game should have been done in the main time if our players finished the chances any kid in his first grade at school would have finished by a push of his small leg.

Our problem this season is only finishing and by improving it in summer we'll be good.

If that had been a CL game, we'd all be buzzing on the post match euphoria of a last gasp win in an entertaining European showcase.

But it's the Europa, so instead we're feeling relived and exhausted, like we've just been told the cardiac stress we felt watching was merely a harmless murmur, rather than a full blown heart attack. Momentarily uplifting, and good news in the scheme of things, but something we shouldn't really even need to worry about in the first place.

Mourinho - We're a goal up inn the second half. Answer = Fellaini. We need a goal in the second half. Answer = Fellaini. Do better than this please.

Zlatan - I know he's injured and that's bad and all that, but he should never have been on the pitch in the first place, because he should have been hauled off at half time like anyone else who played as badly as that would have been. Both legs he's put in a worse performance than ANY the likes of Rooney or Martial ever have for United. If you're going to drop and criticise players for not performing well enough, it has to be universal. You can't allow someone to perform like that in consecutive games and not even sub or drop them. If Martial put in that performance he'd have been off at half time and not seen again for a month. Not good enough.

Rahsford and Mickhitaryan - Both excellent. Probably the only two plaers who did themselves any justice at all, other than maybe Shaw who at least put some kind of performance in.

Pogba/midfield - I've seen people on twitter during my boring journey home state Pogba as man of the match...why? He played one good ball and based the amount of aimless ones he hit I'm suspicious as to whether that was even on purpose. Then he's dicking around near his own area in the dying stages. He needs to stop behaving like some knobhead 8 year old. Carrick only showed up for brief spells too. I don't expect Pogba to be a world beater but I don't expect him to look lost and clueless against fecking Anderlect.

Us - We were absolutely shite

English teams - Spurs went out to Genk. United struggled to beat Anderlect. Onl Leicester amde any impact at all on the CL. Exactly how bad to English teams have to get before we stop pretending they're good enough? The fact is United 6 years ago would have won that in the first leg and probably rounded off the second with a half arsed 4-0 win. Any top 4 contending PL team at the time would have.

Hmmm but it worked and Fellaini was the best player tonight so ?? Our midfield was a joke first half with the opponent passing through Pogba and Carrick easily. Fallaini gave us more stability in midfield and was dangerous up front. We dominated the second half once he entered the field and the goal was due to his effort.

I don't like the guy much and criticized him a lot but that was a very good sub from Jose. I said it was a good sub in match thread once he entered and he proved to be so , so I don't get your criticism here.

Agree Pogba and Carrick were awful but not sure how Fellain gave us any stability when all we did was hoof the ball in is vaguely general direction. He did nothing in midfield either.

Our best player was Rashford and our second best player was Mickhitaryan. No one else was anywhhwre near from what I saw. If you're having to rely on hoofs and fllick ons to scrape a win at home to Anderlect, that says it alll really. Nowhere near good enough.

Great moment for Rashford who was great all game, but fecking hell the game should have never even needed that goal. We once could not a kill a game when we needed to. No idea why we stopped playing football after the first goal too, though I appreciate the Rojo injury didn't help.

We weren't controlling the midfield or creating anything until Fellaini entered the game to give both Carrick and Pogba support. Before he came the opponent was controlling the game and were the ones favourite to score while Pogba and Carrick weren't able to cope with the pressure they exerted on them. Once Fellaini entered we restored control of the game and started creating loads of sitters so I don't know how you don't see the stability he gave us. Compare the state of our midfield before and after he entered.

Mikhi wasn't bad but I don't think he deserved to be our second best player by any means. Rashford and Fellaini were the best tonight IMO.
