EL D Europa League Quarter-Final 1st Leg

Anderlecht 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Thu, 13 April 2017

It is bollocks. You saw how annoyed Jose is in his interview with his forwards.

Aye he keeps throwing them under the bus but seriously we're not going to stick away every chance we get. It's not as if me missed absolute sitters there.

Pogba chance was decent. He probably should have scored but again it's not a sitter.

Mkhitaryan chance in second was quite hard to take imo. So I don't see what he's talking about.

I'd understand it if we were cutting teams apart and then fecking chance after chance but we're not.

Completely intended to mention Lidgard twice mate! I have said that I mentioned him already. Read the bloody post, you should be put back to noobies for not bothering to read before you post.

I read the post. My eyes bled.

Maybe you should learn how to spell LINGARD.

Yep, you talk like its always going to be like this.

Well what signs are there that it isn't ?

Has been going on since the start off the season and instead of getting better has been getting worse. We just can't fecking score and we keep drawing game after game after game...

It is extremely tiresome

The most obvious sign was in that Sunderland game. We found out that our ability to finish chances was totally as crappy as shit hits the fan.
But some just saw the score, and were satisfied with the performance.

But is the 'reduction' due to good defending or because the players have a lot of possession? So isn't it because of the offensive players instead? Would this defence keep it at 1 shot even when playing against Bayern Munich-type of teams (top class teams)? Just my thoughts, or am I thinking wrong?
You're thinking wrong. Of course keeping possession helps, but you only need to watch the game to see how we stopped them creating chances. That's how a team like ours or Spurs differ from say Arsenal.

We didn't miss absolute sitters but the amount of times we had the ball in their final third in dangerous situations and proceeded to just completely feck things up was infuriating.

How many times did we overhit a crucial pass or stick a poor cross in or miscontrol it on the edge of the box?

Put it this way, this is the realistic opportunity for the team to play C.L football, do the players acknowledge that? We largely have a phsicologic issue and that a big question mark that Jose can not fix time and time again, players should have been told that's only Anderlecht ffs if you want to prove that you deserve to play a proper European football then this E.L campaign is all you feckiiingg got so go and fecking prove it.

What is this "simulation" bollox?
If you're referring to the box which predicts the match odds through simulating all the shots, I'm not quite sure. The person who runs the account said that various factors go into calculating the match odds. For instance, the xG value for each team is one such factor.

My rating for the match
Romeiro 5 - might as well fielded an extra outfield player.
Darmian 0 - No attacking threat at all ffs. We are not fecking stoke. Our left back attack more than defend. Why could Evra stay young forever.
Baily 4 -Where was he when we conceded? His area! At least Rojo was marking someone
Rojo 4 - Smalling reincarnated on the pitch suddenly. Hoofs it blindly every time.
Valencia 5 - Not the usual self, but he alone possesses more threat than Darmian and Martial combined.
Lidgard 3 - I honestly did not realise he played this game.
Rashford 5 - Nothing specific to mention (c) Football Manager 2015
Pogba 6 - Better than usual, but not 90M
Carrick 8 - Rock solid. Always right time in the right place. Why is Fellaini getting more mins?
Mikhi 3 - I know he scored the goal, but absolute crap apart from that. In the first half worst player on the pitch, in the second read comment for Lidgard.
Ibra 7 - motd for me. Carries our team in attack. Otherwise we have 6 Tevezes in attack aka headless chickens.
Lidgard 0 - Absolute shite. I might have mentioned him already but ffs we are playing with 10 men here every game. 100k a week? 100k Zimbabwean dollars is what he deserves.
Martial 0 - Worse performance I have seen from him. Their right back absolutely owned him. It is as if he was a dog on a retractable leash when he came on.
Fellani 0 - Oh Iam just not gonna bother to mark the goalscorer, I don't want to run today. Let Darmian who played a full 70 mins more than me take care of that guy.
Fosu Mensah - N/A

Absolutely dire post that one.

if we'd held on 1-0, your ratings would probably have been tonnes better.

Get to know your own team's names too! Lidgard. Deary me. And you rate him twice. And 2 different rankings.

Comedy stuff.

Quality control contender.

Zenit St fecking Petersburg beat them 3-1, why should I not criticize our players? I have aspirations unlike you.. I want us to compete with the best. And if we can't beat comfortably Anderlecht I will criticize. To summarize my post in one line we need to get better fast.

I had aspirations in the 70's but never annihilated a United team back then like you just did. You are obviously young...been through the golden era of Fergie. We are not there now and although sure we should have killed the game off, we haven't lost....we have the away goal and we have a dam good chance at OT.

Should have killed the game off but fellaini's ball watching was pathetic and lazy, it's a stupid substitution and Jose is to blame for repeating the same mistake. There was no need to bring him Ina swe we're in control and he offered nothing.

As usual we are making hard work of what should have been an easy game.

I am just waiting for the comments about extending our incredible unbeaten run. Must be the worst one in history for how many games it is.

I understand that our inability to kill the games is extremely frustrating but there is massive overreacting here. That first 45 minutes was one of our better performances in recent weeks and even in the second half we had clear chances.

Also, was expecting Anderlecht to cause us much more problems but we shot them down pretty well. Sure, people can downplay Anderlecht as much as they want but the fact is they are first in their league comfortably in front of Gent who manage to throw out mighty Spurs beating them at home.

I just dont understand how a Manchester United team can be so poor in scoring goals. Its embarassing.

Get rid of shit like fellaini and darmian already. They are just not good enough.

Martial's confidence looks shot too. He is so predictable cutting in with his right foot all the time.

To be fair to the players mentioned, they're not responsible for scoring goals.

Aye exactly right but I wouldn't call that not killing the game. I'd just say we're fecking shite in attacking. I really can't comprehend how such talented players can't carve out chances at will. It's got to be more than just confidence etc. We've no cohesion in the final third. fecking infuriating to watch considering we've spent best part of 25 years of putting teams to the sword.

Darmian had a solid game and isn't to blame. But he shouldn't have been on the pitch to begin with... why put a defensive minded no attacking right footed player there?

Our chance creation is just fine. There's ample evidence proving it's our finishing that less us down. The Pogba chance and the Zlatan/Lingard should have both resulted in a goal, if we won that game 3-1 would you be telling us we struggle to create chances?

It honestly feels like they get in dangerous situations and then choose the wrong option on purpose.

How does a team choose the wrong option every single fecking time!

Go ahead, have chances to kill the game, miss the biggest of them all, end up drawing. You could write that at the end of any number of United games this season.

There's an argument our players are bigger bottlers than Arsenal's. We've missed more easy chances than Arsenal. We've passed up about a dozen chances to get into the top four. Everyone has a go at Arsenal's lack of mental strength. Well if Arsenal are mentally weak then so are we!

Drawmaster United.

Wasting and embarrassing:nono:we're not good enough.

Kill the game!! Do finishing drills please in training~

Where's the fire? Poor standard... and people complain Mourinho publicly scrutinized them daily.

With the current squad, we're going to be bullied mercilessly in CL.

Job done though, got an away goal.

Carrick impressive performance.

As usual bringing on Fellaini to 'see the game out' backfires spectacularly once more.

I was reading Fergies book on leadership, he dismissed the idea of sitting back to defend a lead. Said it meant your threat was reduced, allowing the opposition to attack you. In fact he said that's why United got so many late goals, teams sat back, reduced thier own offensive ability and let United stream forward, eventually scoring.

Not in Europe we aren't. We are notoriously good.

Our home results in Europa thus far:

5-2 Galatasary
1-0 Zoyra
4-1 Fenerbache
4-0 Feyenoord
3-0 St Etienne
1-0 Rostov

That's a 100% record in Europa at home, scoring 18 goals and conceding 3 in the process. It's away from home with have struggled in Europe.
I knew our home form in Europe was good but that's better than I thought. I'm a bit more optimistic now but I still wouldn't be surprised to see us eliminated.

If we are about to put things right after this awful season, Lingard Fellaini and Dramian should be no where near the MAN.UNITED club, Martial needs confidence and games need Jose to give him an advise or two , Rashford must believe he can score goals not just run the kid needs to try more and more so we disparately need that kind of forward that kind of winger that kind of holding MF we need about 4 5 players because guess what the fact is we are not good enough still for the 4th fecking year.

5-2 Galatasaray was a friendly

Interesting to observe the two basic camps most posters fall into.
We have those who want to win the tie and win the EL and are encouraged by how tough to beat United have been.
Mourinho is picking up silverware and once he has a full crack at remodelling the squad it will be onwards and upwards. Success on the field is the primary aim, exciting play would be nice but is a secondary concern.

Others are looking beyond this season and have grave doubts that this Manager and squad will return the club to the top table of World Football.

Interesting times and this will be one hell of a summer for many clubs.

Leading in the tie, having the best home record in the competition and the best players will be more than enough to see us through. I expect it to be comfortable, have a little faith!

I think the result was determined by two things. The secondary one is Pogba's usual careless and infantile performance. But the main thing is Jose's mistake. I've already posted it here, that Jose does not seem to have a good control of games, he rarely does anything good with his subs and tactical changes, some people asked for example and here is a glaring one. Mourinho's subs today were awful and the way he disrupted our game flow was really weird. United was hardly threaten defensively, Rashford was much better on the left. You could actually feel like with every sub we became worse and worse.

Not sure why I start each game expecting something different. Same story every game, chances missed, no concerted thrust in our attack and give up a goal while "bossing" the game. Just hope we don't feck it up at home now the way we've done so spectacularly all season in the league.

And am usually loathe to jump on Fellaini but, seriously why the frack can't he just learn to watch his man. The guy should not have got his head without him at least being challenged by Fellaini.

It really, really isn't. This has been prevalent for weeks (if not months) and I wish people could be more honest with themselves. We don't carve opens opposition teams and we are beginning to label difficult chances as some kind of open goal certainties. Even tonight, we didn't create an exceptional amount of chances. We miss one big one and suddenly it's all down to poor finishing. Granted, we've missed a lot this season, but game after game I'm reading the same things even in spite of rank performances in which we create few, if any, clear cut openings.
