Post match v Liverpool

I am still furious about this. If it had been a 1-0 or 2-0 hard fought defeat. Fine. Annoying given who the opposition was but you could blame fatigue

However 7-0 against your biggest rivals is utterly utterly unacceptable. I'd go as far as saying cowardly. Barca or Real Madrid at their peak, it would possibly be just about acceptable. But this Liverpool team who are having a bad season, with players like Nunez up front, and we allow that to happen? It's just not on.

Where is their professional pride. How can they stand allowing themselves and the club to be humiliated like that, by Liverpool. Absolutely atrocious

I actually turned off at 3-0, because I could tell there was no fight and we weren't going to do anything, didn't expect this though.

What's worse is with the weak mentality of some of these (I thought it had actually got better, silly me) is they could allow it to derail their whole season.

I hope the players are severely punished - as someone said upthread it would be nice to see them have to cover the fans who travelled costs, or make a donation to one of the clubs charities

The sooner new owners come in and properly back the manager, especially in the striking department, the better

People aren't getting giddy about winning Carabao or whatever, people are getting giddy because the team is back on the path to becoming a top team and competing against the best teams in the world with a manager who is far better than his predecessors. Liverpool won the game because they have played only 7 games since the start of last month and United has played 10 games in the same period, also Liverpool doesn't have mediocre players on their bench which means EtH has no other option but to play his best players across multiple competitions which will have a physical and mental impact on most of our players who aren't used to playing under a manager like EtH who wants all his players to press during a game and generally work harder. While Liverpool players will be used to having a manager who likes his players to work hard and press. Kloop obviously know this and took advantage. EtH also didn't help the team by trying to make a comeback with his subs and the formation with Rashford up top in the center.

Also, EtH isn't stupid, he will already know which players belong here and which players don't. People are being naive if they thought all issues with the club and team will get fixed in less than a year. Does one defeat undo all the hard work that EtH and his staff and the players have done? I know 7:0 is truly embarrassing but saying the team has hit rock bottom or something is the epitome of knee-jerk reactions.
And only turned up in 4 of those.

If those players are getting complacent after winning basically the least important available trophy, then it's beyond hopeless and extremely small-time.
We rotated half of the team for the West Ham match and still won 3-1 and their 1 the ball went out of play.

For me it's not just the defeat, but the manner of it. The way we just utterly collapsed can't be unseen, and it can't be made up for by winning a couple of games down the line.

Something is seriously, seriously lacking when you allow yourself to conceed six goals in one half of football. We saw the same thing happen at city earlier in the season. It was easy to say 'that was then, this is now' but then this happens. There was also the Brentford game where we were 4-0 down within the first 40 minutes. Then you've got the 0-5 against Liverpool last season, and so on.

It should never happen once, let alone multiple times. For all our progress, this is seriously worrying. I've seen loads of bad United teams over the decades, but I've never seen one that has the capacity to completely collapse like we've seen in recent times.
The defeats which Utd have had in the last couple of years have been unforgivable.

Even in our crap spell in the late 80s, I didn’t witness horrendous defeats like this.

I'm referring to Shaw's comments about not being the same team since the Carabao Cup victory.

I watched his interview yesterday where he initially said this and to be honest it hadn't crossed my mind before he said it, but it's a cause for concern if true.

MUTV sensibly are not showing replays of the game like they normally do. Got the away game at Barcelona on atm.
I've still got MUTV... should've sacked it ages ago when the Glazer's saw fit to veto the phone in shows...they were the only thing that made the channel watchable.

Why did the team collapse like that? I'm trying to understand.

They've been so solid the last few months, fighting for each other.

Has it all been a show? Did the atmosphere get to them? Do they have a complex vs Liverpool?

I just hope ETH can figure it out and sort it.

Had Roy Keane a point about all the on pitch presentations before the West Ham game , it had a real end of season feeling to it. He said it worried him at the time and still does , the players need to get the heads back in the game , the season is far from over.

The letter to the fans as well was ill timed i felt. I mean if you won the league or the CL i could understand.

I think really yesterday was a combination of tiredness, livepool being ready, the carabao cup lack of concentration and just everything going perfect for Liverpool in that second half.

We badly need a reaction on thursday and at the weekend.

I thought about it as I watched the slightly over the top celebrations and media praise. If the players thought the carabao cup was the "job done" moment then that's just sad.

I agree. Maybe people liked it but I certainly felt it was a tad cringy considering it was the fecking league cup.

How many that started against Liverpool would you start against Betis & or Southampton?

Hopefully if we get taken over the new owners might invest more. It has so much potential as a link with the fans. Used to really enjoy and they have really cut down on the quality.

Was Casemiro just a dream?
Is Antony our worst buy ever?
Has Luke Shaw gone back to McDonalds?
Martinez: is he just human after all?
Is Fernandez just a pain in the arse?
Is Weghorst a footballer?

there was one in 72 - got taken apart by Don Rogers and Palace. it was goalless until the 45th minute Lost 5-0. Only game I've ever been so pissed off at that I walked out early. We were four down and as my dad and I reached the bottom of the stairs, they got the fifth. No joke, we had a pretty good team including the likes of Law, Buchan, Kidd and Ian Storey-Moore. We were, well, about as bad as we were yesterday. The Doc was in the crowd an got the manager's job less than 24 hours later

The Antony video could be repeated for Rashford/Bruno/Fred/Casemiro in terms of tracking runners and taking responsibility in a man to man sense which we have been generally very good at. A mixture of fatigue and trying to get back in the game before stabilising the flow of the game. We are Man Utd sort of bollox…trying to throw punches while we are still getting to our feet. We needed Casemiro or Varane or Martinez to slow the game down and our wingers to get compact. We actually did the opposite. I’m still in shock.

Getting complacent after a first trophy in 6 years. After that Carabao cup win, if I'm a Man Utd player I'd be doing everything I can to push on and uswed the win as a springboard
If the team is letting standards drop already in early February, then that is concerning imo

I was on a shitty stream and switched off just before 4-0. What is this Bruno assaulting assistant ref incident that other club's fans are losing their minds over.

ETH said the players were unprofessional. You can fine employees for being unprofessional in their jobs. I guess for people like you it’s ok for players to put in that display and lose 7-0 to our biggest rivals because they don’t have clauses in their contracts.

I'm sure we'll see something about fines for the 7-0 loss any day now. Do you want to bet on that?

I've said it before and I'll repeat it. You don't define a team based on one match.

If we win the next match 5-0 should everyone get a bonus?

How many that started against Liverpool would you start against Betis & or Southampton?
Honestly, probably all of them save Dalot and Antony. But something broke yesterday at the half.

We have joked since Ole came in about the "first real test," but this is a major puzzle for Eric ten Hag to solve. As someone else stated, you don't give up seven goals with eleven men on the pitch. We had eleven bodies on the field, but they were shells of the men that won the Carabao Cup and knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League.

My primary concern beyond that is that we may have just sparked Pool into saving their season.

Maybe he just means that some slight overconfidence that the team is onto something big has seeped in after the trophy, but otherwise I don't think anyone who has played in first tier leagues in Europe will believe a league cup is some major achievement.

I don't think enough is being made of Liverpool raising their game.

What I mean is their fans should be asking where has this been all season?

And even if the actual result was a freak, their performance was great.

Question is was this just game raising or them getting back to their usual. I have my doubts. Time will tell.

I'd be surprised to see Shaw and Bruno survive this.

That pasting, shellacking , hiding or whatever you want to call it, probably knocked about £1 billion off the bidding offers

You’ll be surprised to see 2 of our best players in recent seasons survive past a freak half of football?

We’re easily much worse off without them.

:wenger:

For the next game, which was the topic of discussion.

If those players are getting complacent after winning basically the least important available trophy, then it's beyond hopeless and extremely small-time.
We've known since last year that we have a lot of small-time, weak mentality players who are extremely lucky to still be here. The only reason they are still here is because the Glazers didn't have the cash for a complete overhaul.

We did stop them in the 1st half besides 1 failure at the end(which can be mainly attributed to Fred).

What happened in the 2nd half wasn't a tactical failure. It was an attitude failure.
Yeah the first half wasn’t a disaster. I didn’t like the tactics or the formation or the selection. We let them let play too much from where I was sitting. The match day thread is carnage, I know, but it is full of comments about our lack of midfield. I’m reliably informed this was done on purpose and, sure, they didn’t score for a while but I was personally hoping for a bit more than “we nearly stopped them from scoring”.

My point is that errors can come from anywhere but when you are being bossed through the middle by Liverpool, errors are more likely to happen. We should have been into them more and not let them get their tails up. There’s no legislating for the shambles of the second half, I know.

Nobody was expecting 7-0 trashing but a heavy defeat was coming down the tracks. The hectic schedule would eventually take its toll. Add in the fact that Liverpool at home and their need was greater and were buoyed up more than ever with the Newcastle,Spurs results on Saturday. Tired minds and bodies makes more errors than normal and United made a mountain of errors yesterday.

Fine lines.
Carabao and top 4 is a good season.
Carabao and Europa is pretty gutting.
Both are the same it gives Champions league football next season. Can't see such a fatigued team winning the Europa (only round 16 yet) hopefully hang onto top 4 in the PL. Might need Tottenham and Newcastle to drop more points than expected to do so.

So one trophy and getting champions league next season is good. Two trophies and champions league next season is gutting.

Got it.

The outpour online is a thing of beauty…

United looking comfortable in the Top 4 and win the League Cup must have been making pundits blood boil!

Imagine how they will react if the club is taken over my the Middle East and win the league.

Winning Europa and coming 5th is hardly gutting. It gives us CL, right?
Apologies I should have specified, that can be taken two ways. I mean Europa league places.

Carabao and CL places.
Carabao and EL places.

Edit @ShinjiNinja26 @Drizzle @always_hoping

If we did win the Europa but finish 5th it'd be a good season (2 trophies and CL football next season) - CL football is a must - and it would be eerily similar to Mou's first season which preceded our best season since SAF.

While not really true, we'd have to absolutely collapse in the league to not finish top 4 from here. 7 points clear of 5th, Tottenham and Newcastle look much worse than we do. And we have a relatively easy fixture list given we've played what will probably be seen as the other top 3 sides in the league twice already.

If Utd come away with 2 trophies and finish 3rd it's hard to see how anyone can view that as anything other than a successful season. The bookies in pre-season had us down as finishing 6th. Even 1 trophy and top 4 I would have been seen as a success before the season, even if that would be seen as a little disappointing now when we're sitting 3rd with a trophy in the bag and in 2 more cup competitions.

Players posts on instagram are very few and far between today. Good to see.
