Post match v Liverpool

Well that's my presence on social media done for this month. This forum will be my comfort zone.

At least most of my colleagues at work are United fans as well.

Not really if we win our next two games as if nothing happened
This is nonsense. The psychological damage from this is hard to calculate, as well as the psychological boost for Liverpool who can well now go and finish in the top 4. This is a result that is literally going down in history and a huge black stain on United. Remember how we used to make fun of Arsenal and the 8-2 as them being bottlers? The same joke is now on us.

7-0. 7-0.

3-2, 3-1, 2-1, hell 1-0, yes then blame fatigue. But 7-0 is inexcusable and unprofessional.

If anything 7-0 indicates fatigue more than 1-0. 1-0 means that they likely had the energy to defend properly and make a game of it. We actually did that in the first half, and were the better side at that point. However, we were purposefully slowing the game down to conserve energy - this actually backs up my point.

The second half, though, you could see that the players just didn't have the energy to close down properly or tighten the space.

Bruno should lose the Captaincy over this.
He is the leader on the pitch and showed exactly why he isnt one

It's really not. We can go on to win the league this year and that'll still be a bad moment in our history.

7-0! When do you ever see teams get beaten 7-0 at this level?

damn! lost my head at 3-0 and didn't watch. Was hoping I'd see we made some sorta of comeback as I was opening up this thread.
Not watching any football content for the next week now!

EtH kept hoping for a miracle to turn around the shoreline. At 4-0, he should have made wholesale changes and shut up shop. Play 6 at the back if we have to. But I think EtH can’t swallow defeat and kept trying to find a way out, instead of accepting the game was already lost. Reminds me of the 6-2 defeat to City when Rooney almost burst into flames. At 4-0, game is over. We don’t have players who can turn around a score line like that.

That said, we are still halfway into a rebuild, half these players should not be here next season.

If there's anything positive about this, we have form this season for having bad results and going on incredible runs afterwards. That's another job for ETH to do, let's hope he can

We lost 1-4 to them at OT and still pipped them to the title. Of course there will be jokes, but if we get back to winning routinely, results are all that matter

7 flatters them. xG has it at 3-1.

It reminded me of their 19/20 season where they achieved 25 points above their xPts. That too was a really fortunate run of the green but that level of overperformance above expected output is unsustainable as they found out with the worst PL title defence on record in 20/21.

We were better first half, gave up once 2-0 in second with fatigue meaning no way back.

This has a much bigger impact than just the 3 points.
We don’t know yet. If this is the beginning of a bad run then yes. But Liverpool are not this good and we are not this bad. We are still well positioned for a top 4 finish and still with a shot at the FA cup and the EL.
The next games will prove is this was just a collective day off due mostly to fatigue or something more serious.
I still have faith in ETH and this team.

Keane making some valid points. Why are we celebrating awards pre-match at OT? Creating a circus atmosphere

The annoying thing is, outside of the 7-1 or 7-2 Liverpool vs Villa game, none of the traditional top 4 or 6 are ever conceding more than 4 in a game as often as we do in the past 5 years. Its worrying.

They lost 6-0 to Stoke of all teams. Don't see that mentioned anywhere when they won their title

Not like this. I do think we'll still finish 4th and maybe win a cup and too with an overall very good season, but to deny this is a huge black stain on the club and an absolutely disgraceful result is to be living in looney tunes.

1-4 is a FAAAAAAAAAAAAR cry from 0-7 which is our worst defeat ever when you account as to who we lost to. It makes Ole's loss of 5-0 look like a valiant Spartan last stand.

I switched off at 5/0 but I heard on the radio that Antony was laughing and hugging Nunez at 7/0.
Is this true?
If it is he can get out of here right now.

Rubbish. 7-0 shows a team which has given up on a result. The problem with Liverpool being our biggest rivals is most teams at 3-0, 4-0 slow down but they don’t do that against us. That’s why we have been under some right hammerings in recent years.

So, hopefully EtH saved somewhere in the first few minutes and we can replay this match with Rashford on the left, AWB on instead of Dalot, and Sabitzer on for Fred. Maybe we can pass to a fellow teammate instead of a lot of hopeful punts into space that fell to Liverpool every time. Maybe we can focus on taking the sting out by holding onto the ball for a few minutes. This second time through this level we should be a lot better.

Just hope we don't regress from here, as top 4 were 90% guaranteed now let's see how we go after this. And why are people worried about Liverpool getting top 4 or not, we are in a phase that I really don't care what other teams do.

7-0. Terrible, terrible. I hate playing the dippers - the prospect of a win is always suffocated by the fear of defeat. And then you get a battering. I’m inclined to not watch this fixture in future; the jeopardy is too great.

We were knackered. Understandably. And it’s just a fact of life that you can’t keep all your players at their physical peak all the time.

The problem is that Liverpool were in better physical shape than us (and had a little more rest than us over the last few weeks), were playing at home, and have been coming back into form. These are things we can’t control but we set up and played like these things weren’t true. We didn’t show them enough respect and we basically let them play to their strengths.

ETH shows signs of being a truly excellent manager but he made mistakes today. He has been great at learning from his mistakes, on the whole. Nightmare this time.

8 shots on target. 7 in the back of the net.

Calamitous game and I still can’t believe the players lost the plot the way they did. Especially having been so comfortable for large portions of the first half.

Could and should have taken the lead, but to concede six goals in the second half?! Never mind tactics, forget tiredness, that can only be excused by players completely and utterly losing their heads.

Surreal given how many strong personalities we had on the pitch. Martinez, Varane, Casemiro, Bruno, Rashford all blown away like a fart in the wind.

Not many because he was suspended for 3 of them
Next ?
Don't think thats correct. He started against Barca on the 23rd, again in the final on the 26th, then played 45 minutes against West Ham on the 1st and another 80 minutes today. So about 310 minutes in 11 days.

Also, I'm not the enemy

That's rubbish. That was last game. We won that game.

Keane didn't like it because he saw Fergies face at the awards and got triggered again. :)

No overreaction. :wenger:
Is anyone still alive who has saw a worse result. Im not kidding here.
I’ve watched United since the mid-1960s. That’s the worst result - and second half performance - that I can remember. One team was exceptionally good, the other exceptionally bad. A good measure of our progress is how we react over the next few fixtures.

Our fullbacks today :wenger:

Good first half performance actually, second half just...lost our heads completely and were ripped to pieces by the counter. Usual players from last season's humiliations collapsed and stopped playing, Bruno, Shaw, De Gea and it just was a shambles.

The only positives are that the worst fixture is out of the way and that it shows we're not title challengers yet. If this result doesn't affect us we could realistically win three trophies and secure top 4. Talk of a title win was far too soon.

Held myself back half hour from a rant. 7-0 is unbelievably flattering. xG suggests 3-1 and that was my honest assessment of the game. Tired players and a few poor mistakes which give me PTSD from last season, but ultimately the Scouse capitalised on everything. Hag should have attacked down the left from the off. Very disappointing but we learn, buckle up the laces, chin up and move on

Sky really ripping the absolute hole out of us now but yeah, its only 3 points

Stoke are not rivals. We still let Arsenal know about the time we beat them 8-2. This one is here forever lads.
Is your ego as a fan so fragile that you can't handle the banter? Don't get me wrong, of course this hurts, and it will sting a while, but I couldn't give a shit about the banter if we end the season with the EL or FA cup and finish second or third in the league.

I'm not denying that this will be a psychological burden on the team, but if they go back to winning ways immediately, that will be overcome quickly

Rashford striker, weghorst #10 and bruno left. Why? Marcus has been on fire on the left side. Tactically wrong set up. Also the discussion around who is our best RB is still on. Defensively, awb is better.

everyone was terrible today, lost the battle in every aspect of the game. Reality check

I’ve watched United since the mid-1960s. A good measure of our progress is how we react over the next few fixtures.

Yeah, thats the only thing to takeaway… Fergie lost 6-1 at home to City and took them to the last day… if we react well, eh, it’s an eventually (hard) forgotten embarrassment…If it derails the rest of the season. Then we can be worried.

The writing has been on the wall for a bit of a beating in a way. 2-0 down to Leeds, losing to West Ham and then missing big chances, that first half at home to Barca, the first half Vs Leicester... Until now nobody has punished us.

I still think we need to become a different type of team then we are to be considered as the best or one of the best. We're still poor in possession at times and have no control over large parts of games, no matter the level of the opposition. We're a bit of an amalgamation of Ole's team in the first two seasons and Jose's too. Very pragmatic, looking for breakaways and relying on moments to win us games. Not all of the time but enough of the time.

7-0 means nothing to me. We lost and we move on. Liverpool will still finish below us.
