Post match v Liverpool

We had more and better chances than them until they took the lead. They dominated ball and play throughout, though

Yea i agree. The tactics were right until Gapko got that first goal against the run of play. Then the early one second half just killed us. We lost the plot after that.

Bad result, freak result, unacceptable from the team....but some of the posts here. Deary me. Catch a grip some of you.

Just hope the manager and players have enough courage to deal with whats about to come.

Martinez will get I told you so's from a shit ton of pundits.

Casemiro will get the steady eddie nickname back.

Its Ten Hag I worry for the most. 3 drubbings in one season. 17 goals in 3 games. Conceding 6 and 7 to Liverpool and City. And 4 to Brentford. They will hit him hard.
ETH and the team came back stronger and better after Brentford and City. I'm sick to the stomach but we've always come back. Otherwise, we won't be Manchester United.

Worst half of football I have ever seen in my life. Definitely the worst half performance from United I have ever seen.

I expected to lose, dunno why, I just felt it was one big game too many, especially after the two hard matches against Leeds, the two Barca matches, the cup final, and the comeback at West Ham. It's obvious all that would have taken it out of the players, and with more than a few not ever playing in a Derby at Anfield before I just had a bad feeling about today, but I wasn't expecting that.

The worst part was how the team capitulated and lost their heads completely. Casemiro who never puts a foot wrong gave the ball away for the first 15/20 mins and was never himself all match. Martinez lost his shit big time as did Luke Shaw and Fernandez who was a disgrace to be honest. I think the occasion and fans definitely got to them, then the Liverpool players did as well and they clearly couldn't handle it at all.

I'm gutted, devastated, broken, but the first half performance was good and we have played so well over the last few months, beaten Barca and also won a trophy for the first time in years.

The result sucks, but you just know Eric won't be happy and he won't accept this at all. I just hope it was a one off and it spurs the players on to never ever give up like that again and upsets them so much they spend the rest of the season trying to prove a point that it was just a one off.

Not really when Spurs and Newcastle are still absolute crap, and Liverpool are still 7 points behind.

They beat Bournemouth 9-0 then continued to be shit for most of the season.
Spurs are 4 points behind us, even when they've been crap and we've just been on a big winning run. A long way to go in the season and we still have a fixture pile up.

Unacceptable, 7-0 is as bad as it is gets. There is no excuse to losing 7-0, embarrassing.

Some of the rebounds and ricochets were almost magical , though, like smashing the ball off your own player and it lands perfectly at Salah’s feet 2 yards in front of goal. 3 or 4 of their goals cut us open and the rest were like we were cursed.

Top 4 is Liverpool's only hope of winning anything this year. Not surprised they took advantage of how overplayed we are.

Worst 45 minutes I have ever seen from us. What the feck happened in the dressing room at half time? We did ok first half.

It was like Brazil v Germany. All that emotion is fine when coasting, but it also means capitulation. So unprofessional it's hard to believe

I don’t even know what to say. That was so fecking shameful on every level and is just a gigantic cloud on the progress made this season. Ten Hag got it completely wrong today. We should’ve overloaded the midfield with Sabitzer starting with Fred and Casemiro. Wout should never be starting again.

This at least goes to show the size of the task of bringing United back to the top. The glazers probably thought it would be easy goings like under Fergie. This puts the impetus back on the club actually being sold and having owners who are going to invest further to take us to the next level. Ten Hag has performed miracles so far but he can’t do it on his own.

Did we really have better chances - maybe the Rashford one which cancels out the one that Martinez took off the toes of Nunez.

If you mean better by being closer then Bruno's header but they had numerous chances that took last ditch defending/blocks to clear away

I have no words. That's taken the shine off the league cup win. And the season so far to be perfectly honest. Absolute shambles.

Shaw back to coming out with all the post match excuses, a real nostalgia tour today.

None of this "tiredness" "too many games" nonsense.

7-0 is an utterly disgrace

Why is it nonsense? Fatigue has an enormous impact on the level of a player. We are the only team in the Premier League that has competed in every possible game so far, which is going to have a major impact. Liverpool, on the other hand, went out of the cups and looks to be going out of the Champions League. They have had a much easier ride.

You could see in the game today that some of them could barely run. Also, fatigue doesn't just affect physicality but also mentality, which will explain the enormous amount of poor decision making and sheer sloppiness from every player on the pitch.

I would say Ten Hag needs to give them a rest, but the squad is very limited in depth. This is why anyone legitimately believing we were in the title race were fooling themselves; we just don't have the depth for it. Even our first 11 needs changes, particularly in attack.

FATIGUE!

Poor squad and having to hammer the same starting 11. Was always going to catch up with us.

Liverpool benefited from us having the most games of any club in Europe since the World Cup.

7-0. 7-0.

3-2, 3-1, 2-1, hell 1-0, yes then blame fatigue. But 7-0 is inexcusable and unprofessional.

Yeah it's a really tough one. It should just never happen, not unless you're forced to field a team of kids.

Really don't know how to suggest this.

Playing Bruno on one of the wings to play Weghorst at 10 to play Rashford at 9 is just fecking mental. Just play Rashford up top if you really want with 2 of Garnacho/Antony/Sancho on the wings. Its like 4D chess played like draughts.

That second half was an absolute disgrace. That performance and result was a huge punch to the stomach. Gutted.

Confidence is a bitch. I think we were overconfident going into the match, but it was fragile. Yet, if we scored just one of those first half chances the match would've been completely different. Unfortunately Liverpool scored and after their second they just bubbled over with confidence. Us, on the other hand, wilted away, wondering how this could be happening.

This will be a bitter pill to swallow, but one that is needed, I feel.

No overreaction. :wenger:
Is anyone still alive who has saw a worse result. Im not kidding here.

The first half was good tactically and we did what we've been doing for some time in the build up phase. And Liverpool's goal came about due to a poor mistake from Fred. Second goal due to a poor mistake from Shaw and we've now given away two cheap goals to Liverpool at Anfield on a plate at that stage. And then more mistakes are made trying to chase the game and it seems like certain players gave up with others losing their composure.

Luke Shaw had a mare and Bruno gave up the ghost. And that's disgraceful from Man Utd players. I'm sure a inquest will be held internally, because that second half was a disgrace with too many players throwing in the towel or losing their heads.

In a way it's good that we have been brought down to earth with a bang. And that will help Erik ten Hag better plan for the now and mid to long-term. There's already threads questioning ten Hag but for me he's definitely the right guy and he has to get the players out that don't suit his style of play from both a football and mental capacity.

Embarrassing!

Only thing I can add to those points already mentioned. Stop playing Bruno wide ( I was fed up of this when Mata was constantly played out wide! Now with Bruno). Rashford needs to play LW, not effective as a CF. I know both these are a result of us lacking a proper CF, but our two most impactful players out of position doesn't help.
