Post-match: Southampton Home

The main thing is the 3 points and us restoring our 7 point lead at the top of the table.

What you talking about? We were piss tonight end off but we have done alright this season.

This season has basically been a case of "Oh shit, they've scored from shite defending, we better score more than them. Ah good, we're ahead, let's just sit back and let them butt feck us and hope for the best, oh shit, they've scored from shite def..."

Considering the likes of Chelsea were 2 ahead and Arsenal were 2 down and City too could only draw, I'll take that.

Yes we need a kick up the arse, but this is one of those games we could have easily thrown away through complacency and we didn't.

I'm happy with that.

We don't press and we can't keep the ball under pressure, worrying.

Loads of worrying signs once more. I keep waiting for us to step up a gear this season but it's just not happening. Thankfully we seem to up our game when facing bigger teams, but the mentality when leading is very worrying.

Defend against Southampton and made them look like Barcelona, great stuff. 3 points is all that matters, yeah right.

For our lads, as arrogant as it sounds, it was an inconvenient midweek game against relegation candidates.

It was Southampton's Cup Final, the first fixture their players looked for when they got the fixture list pre-season.

It should come as no surprise then that the difference in attitude and endeavour was noticeable. Three points in the bag, and another game ticked off. Job done.

Absolutely shite second half. Is Cleverley that important to us nowadays? Ando looked very poor.

Amazed you'd single out anyone in that performance. I thought only Evra, Kagawa & Jones came out of it well.

Smalling, Vidic, Carrick, Welbeck and Anderson were extremely poor.

Why do we always drop so deep and invite the pressure towards the end of games? its so annoying to see Rooney and Welbeck camped in our own box looking to hoof it clear, its happening in the majority of games these days.

Standard match at Old Trafford. Go behind to a ridiculous goal, come back and retake the lead playing exciting, attacking football. Then at that restart immediately proceed to feck about post haste and refuse to kill game off. Cling on for dear life at the end. 3 points.

All of them were crap except for Waz and Kagawa but a special mention for Anderson's absolutely retarded performance. Thank feck we are seven points ahead.

To be fair, most of our players started ok, Anderson was consistently and most noticeably dogshit out of everyone.

What exactly you rather then? We lost? Sometime you have to dig a bit deeper and win ugly..we did, so get the feck over it

Hmm I thought Vidic was immense considering we decided to let Southampton have a complete go at us.

Moving Jones to CM and bringing Rio didn't do much to help change things.

This is what happens when we play Giggs and Scholes in midfield!!

Oh, wait...

Carrick started by giving the ball away and his second touch was giving them a goal. Awful performance from him from start to finish.

Same goes for Vida and Smalling.

Are you suggesting the result is not the main thing?

It is, but surely you too are getting fed up of people who, as long as we've won, could not give two fecks about the actual performance and tell everyone who criticises it to go feck a donkey?

An all too accurate summary, unfortunately!

Yeah, the teams of 1999 and 2008 never ever had really scrappy games where they rode their luck against supposedly weaker opposition.

Never.

Looked really good in the first half, then just disappeared in the second... Strange performance!

Hmm I thought Vidic was immense considering we decided to let Southampton have a complete go at us.

Serious? I thought he was absolutely awful, especially on the ball, got caught out on a good few occasions too, also gave away the most retarded easy corner I've possibly ever seen.

The second half was one of the worst I have seen us play this season at home. Absolutely, horribly bad.

Positive is the result and Kagawa's display, Rooney's brace (firing boots back on) as well as the rock at the back, Mr Vidic.

it wasnt a disgrace and with any luck we'll look back on it as another step and another game chalked off in a bigger picture. but is anyone else worried that it was so similar to many performances from last season, we got away with so many but they caught up with us in the end and we just imploded in the big one against city.

playing well and winning well is the key to the title,to build momentum at this time of year is invaluable. it wont happen if the team as a whole doubts itself as they seemed to tonight.
