The whole city is a little numb right now because everyone's thoughts automatically go to 9/11 when something like this happens.Get home safe and have a drink. Shocking pictures going around

Yeah I can imagine, with London having had multiple attacks over the years, albeit obviously nothing as shocking as 9/11.The whole city is a little numb right now because everyone's thoughts automatically go to 9/11 when something like this happens.
It's weird for NYC for this specific type of attack as well. Gun laws are pretty strict there aren't they?
The amount of replies to the AP Twitter feed calling for more guns and open carry to make things safer is mind boggling.
Yes but they are still obtainable, legally and illegally. It's weird for NYC for this specific type of attack as well. Gun laws are pretty strict there aren't they?
Yes but they are still obtainable, legally and illegally.
Motivation might boil down to insanity. Hopefully that's what it is and it isn't something more sinister.Any update as to the motivation behind it yet and casualties?
feck. Glad he’s ok.My friend was on the front carriage of the train involved. He's ok thankfully.
Of course they are. I'm jusy saying it's not something that happens in NYC that often. Obviously impossible to stop people bringing them in from adjoining states like @Rado_N says.
I wish it was as strict everywhere else.Gun laws in NYC are incredibly strict, almost impossible to own one legally here (outside permits are not recognized). And having one on you is a 2 year sentence minimum, no questions asked

Nope. One was laying on the floor bleeding and it looked like he was still filming.People just can’t put their fecking phones down, can they?
there are already tons of cops at every subway station. more cops isn't the solution. also, thankfully nobody died. You blaming the cops for not preventing this?
Without stepping up stop and search how do you propose they do that?
RiP to all the victims.
I don't think anyone here has claimed they need more cops thoughthere are already tons of cops at every subway station. more cops aren't the solution. also, thankfully nobody died.
it is the eventual next step. the mayor has already talked about it. he has been adamant about it, especially in the last few months.I don't think anyone here has claimed they need more cops though
We have cops crawling everywhere. I'm not sure what more cops will do. Our biggest issue is getting help for the mentally ill and getting them off the streets. Same goes for the homeless population since the two overlap.it is the eventual next step. the mayor has already talked about it. he has been adamant about it, especially in the last few months.
As I said though, you could have a million cops on the street but without giving them free reign of stop and search it wouldn't have stopped this attack, as far as I can see.it is the eventual next step. the mayor has already talked about it. he has been adamant about it, especially in the last few months.
there has also been a stark rise in anti-asian hate crimes but they are not as widely reported. sunset park has seen a lot of them.We have cops crawling everywhere. I'm not sure what more cops will do. Our biggest issue is getting help for the mentally ill and getting them off the streets. Same goes for the homeless population since the two overlap.
And I think that's rather the point here: let's stop pouring money into policing issues (unsuccessfully) and let's start funding social action and care that can prevent them.We have cops crawling everywhere. I'm not sure what more cops will do. Our biggest issue is getting help for the mentally ill and getting them off the streets. Same goes for the homeless population since the two overlap.
they already have free reign and have abused that to no endAs I said though, you could have a million cops on the street but without giving them free reign of stop and search it wouldn't have stopped this attack, as far as I can see.
And you absolutely cannot allow that.
It wouldn’t take a huge chunk of the NYPD’s annual budget of over 5 billion dollars to make an impact on mental health and homelessness. We have cops crawling everywhere. I'm not sure what more cops will do. Our biggest issue is getting help for the mentally ill and getting them off the streets. Same goes for the homeless population since the two overlap.
