Positives from yesterday

Some lovely attacking play giving us a glimpse of what ETH may be aiming for. Superbly taken goals and some edge of the seat stuff from Mainoo, Bruno and Galacho. Anthony looked the best he's been since arriving. Strong team spirit in evidence. This was of course balanced (!) by errors, particularly from the goalkeeper. I was genuinely heartened by this performance, though. There's real potential in this team, which will be assisted by the return of Licha. Overall, a great match for the neutral and one which I too enjoyed, despite the crushing outcome. We were unlucky not to win it with Bruno's shot off the post and the chance for Pelligri. I was reminded of SAF's postmatch comments about 'however many they score, we'll always score more'. Obviously we're not quite there yet, but I sense it's coming.

Minority Report.

I agree. Mainoo will be instrumental I assume. He's confident on the ball and not scared to receive it deep and under pressure. Carries the ball very well the lad.

heheh.

Antony looked sharper and back to his aggressive self
Garnacho and Mainoo. Both developing nicely
Maguire solid again and brought the ball forward well
Bruno (minus the fouls)

The whole team gave everything.

Even when it was 3-3 the players kept fighting...a bit of quality and composure in the final third and we could've won it in the end.

I was on the edge of my seat and that is the first time for a couple of seasons. Mainoo, Garnacho coming through nicely. Aside from goalkeeping howlers it was a good performance. On z side note, Shaw needs to take Harry Amass under his wing and teach him everything because that kid has huge promise.

I only managed to see thr first half (rest highlights). Have to say our attack looked the most fluid it has in a lon long time.

Still weak in midfield and at the back though.

Garnacho looks to be stepping up

AWB and Shaw are back and provide a much more solid base

Maguire has turned it around. Credit

Mainoo looks as good as we all expected

less so because I don’t trust it will be regular but Antony was decent last night. As was Martial in his last 2 apprarances

honestly think the second half of the season will be much more encouraging.

I would love it if Amad comes back in and has a Mainoo like impact

and if Casemiro can come back in and find some form a front 6 of Casemiro, Mainoo, Bruno, Garnacho, Amad, Hojlund is pretty exciting

lots of ifs there but trying to keep positive
If Rashford finds form we could have a title charge

There are a few positives from yesterday and it's not all doom and gloom. I will list these below:

1) We will go for the PL title now
2) We will play expansive football against Bayern because we absolutely have to
3) Kobbie Mainoo

Positives
1) Garnacho
2) Mainoo
3) Continuation of some good team goals, also last week Garnacho goal got the headline and rightfully so, but Martial’s goal was wonderfully worked. Yesterday Garnscho’s goal was the result of beautiful football.
Negatives

1) We are starting to think players who were not good enough are suddenly world class eg Maguire & Mctominay

2) We don’t have a ball playing defender

3) Goalkeeper is concerning. I admit I love De Gea, think he’s a legend and he himself in his later years cost us a bit, but that’s after he’d been our best player for 6-7 years. Onana is already 27 and should be at his peak years.

That bizarre "We can't drop Rashford because Garnacho is poor when he starts a game" brigade have hopefully been silenced.

Such a hysterical reaction to this game in the caf, as usual. It was a pretty good performance, and away at Galatasaray is not a game any team should expect to win, let alone us with all our current struggles. Our CL woes are down to the Copenhagen and Gala at home results, not this.
  • Attack was overall much more productive. Goals, shots, attacks, threat, directness.
  • Garnacho is now LW starter. Meaning Rashford either recovers his form as a sub or competes for the right wing. Much healthier position to be in.
  • Signs of life from Antony.
  • Mainoo.
  • Bruno is in good attacking form.
  • We didn't actually concede that many good chances. Yes, they had shots, of course. But we played some good offsides, and bar the poor keeping we would have won comfortably.
  • No new injuries. Shaw and AWB back and not looking too rusty. Injured list now looking like a problem rather than a crisis.
People like to make every result reflect on every perceived problem in the club. But really, this is a game where we created by far the better attacking opportunities, and the keeper let in a number of goals he shouldn't have. Ultimately, it's a better way to lose a game than just generally playing shite, because it has less impact on team morale, belief in the manager's tactics etc. Onana fecked up, the game was thrown away, you move on and carry on doing what you're doing. Which looks like a general move in the right direction, to me.

Very good post, especially the last paragraph.

- Players were still fighting for and believing in the manager.
- Garnacho, Mainoo, and McTom.
- Shaw is back.

I enjoyed watching the game. It was entertaining. Football is entertainment, so I was happy. (don't set coach on me anyone!)

It’s not Sir Jim’s man and he’s failing his objectives. He most certainly won’t be here next season. Unless he figures out how to win the league this season.

I think this is way off the mark but time will tell, none of us really know the situation but it’s an unrealistic expectation for us to win the league this season.

Which is why he won’t stay. It would take a miracle of a season in my opinion to change the new ownerships mind that he is the right guy for them.

Okay. Bring some facts to the table that support a new model being inserted at a football club and the manager lasting longer than 6 months. Just 4 is fine.
Could we do this in one of the Ten Hag threads please? This one was about positives from the Galatasaray game, no need to turn it into another discussion on when and why Ten Hag is getting sacked.

All the protons inside the stadium were positive. That's about it.

It is great to see some positivity on this site. I originally came to this site to join with supporters of my team. I have often wondered if I have come to the right place.
With supporters of other teams lambasting us, so-called supporters of our team doing likewise, every player having a team of haters it is refreshing to hear some encouragement.
