Snow
Somewhere down the lane, a licky boom boom down
I like the UI of the game for the most part in a general sense. The tutorials are good. I like the game as a collector's game. In terms of being a game you play it's pretty bad. Lots of crashes during matches and it doesn't matter if it's AI or a real opponent.
The deckbuilder is quite bad. There is little oversight in what you are doing. Searching by keyword doesn't work. You can't filter by set to figure out what your are missing. There are several big TCGs that have done this. Released and have that aspect of the game barely be functional. Don't know why developers aren't learning from the mistakes of others.
As for the gameplay. Well the game has always been quite poor. The core game is super swingy. With this much smaller card pool and 20 card decks there's more variance based on how players draw and therefor games become more play/draw dependant which is probably my biggest gripe with games in general where that is the case.
Personally I never liked how big the coin flipping mechanic was either.
Another notch against the card pool size is the lack of relevance of most cards. Ex cards are pretty much the only thing that matters and most evolutions are bad.
Still the game delivers for what it is. Like a little tamagochi that you check in on every day. Pack opening is well done. The animations of how cards are added to your binder is cool. As a collection game it does a good job of all the things surrounding that aspect, i.e. pimping your stuff and showing it off. The game itself is quite generous and not predatory. Quite easy to jump into it or take to it if you have been familiar with Pokémon cards in any way throughout your life.
