I do my best to try to avoid reading the journal for that reason - though I keep doing it anyway to see how the connection is, whether it has been spinning stops or not.
I find it just changes the way I manage my items. I never throw a regular pokeball anymore, I leave them for my gotca, so I only manually throw great and ultras. This also means I go through items faster so I have a lot more berries to feed gym pokemon to, which leads to more stardust. Also I only tend to put pokemon in gyms that I want candy from, so when I'm force feeding them 100s of berries, I'm getting the odd candy too.
I don't think they show as shiny in the journal if they flee, but I could be wrong.
175k xp for an event I've just discovered and which ends in 30 minutes. Sheesh.

I'm really not a fan of these brief events Niantic have moved towards. If you're busy during the time slot you miss out. Even if you're not busy, I don't like it being dictated to me when I need to play to maximise rewards.
Same. Even worse when it's a paid event. I resent having to dedicate the best part of a day to it or waste my money.
I do agree. Atleast have a longer window to complete it. I had forgot about it too, i was pretty busy today, but just happened to log in around 11 and saw it had begun.

Saving evolutions, and waiting for legendary raids to pop up. I stick a lucky egg on before the raid, which gives loads of xp (I use poke genie to find people to invite). After winning the raid, I evolve everything I can for that little bit extra.
Apart from that I’m not doing anything special, and I’m a bit surprised this is working so well.
Nice! Thanks for letting me know. It certainly does seem to be working well! I've been saving evolutions, but haven't done a raid yet. I'll look into that.
I've just tried poke genie as I've heard it mentioned a few times. I'm gutted I didn't try it earlier! I live within range of a gym and I've had so many 5* raids pass me by when there's not enough people on my local discord to help out. Never again!
I used to rely on a local messenger group, and they’d just ignore me when I offered to help with raids. Poke genie is so much better.
I tried Pokegenie but I can't seem to get the overlay to work, when it takes me to the settings to enable it Pokémon Go doesn't appear on the list.
I think that list is to choose which app to give overlay permissions, so you choose Pokegenie, not PoGo.

Been enjoying this current event, with the dragon spawns, been able to finally finish the catch 30 dragon quest first day it started.
Also got a 100% Goomy today in a trade, which is nice.

Still after a 100% Goomy, but managed the other two new ones - Spritzee and Swirlix - that came out the same day. Got two 96% Galarian Ponytas and a first shiny Jigglypuff today too. Was a productive lunch hour!
Yeah it's been a good event, managed to get a shiny Bagon and Dratini.
I've been pineapple all the Dratini's as I don't have a decent dragonite, also managed to get a lucky dratini and bagon through trades. But I've heard the CD move for evolving isn't good, so should I wait until after the event to evolve them? As I don't want to be stuck with a rubbish move that I will have to TM away.

Only got a hundo Marill (as well as a few shinies) from the recent events. Not had any shinies in a long time other than that but I'm putting that down to stockpiling balls the past few days so no Gotcha active.

Least with this current bonus of 3x catch XP is helping., Dratini is a great excellent throw.

I'm not too bothered about leveling up post-40, as I won't be able to get to 49 anyway due to the lucky trade thing and don't have anyone near me to trade with. In the four years I've been playing on-and-off, I've had one person turn lucky and they're in a different country with no way to contact them.

I've got 364 candies from just catching Swablu in the past alone. Only going to do the community day to get a couple of shinies, which can hopefully do in the space of three hours. Will need to stock up on balls tomorrow though.
Meh. Already have two shinies, the move isn't great, and its not either Stardust or Bonus XP. Not that fussed on this one. Just wish they'd get on with doing Deino, or even better Axew. Deino especially is way overdue.
I've already caught three shiny Swablu, so I might just give this one a miss. Gible next month apparently. I traded for a shiny on that because despite having over 330 encounters and 320 catches, I've never seen one.

You're going to hate me. 10 encounters, 9 catches including 1 shiny, 1 98 IV and 1 96 IV.
Oh I'm dreading that when I get to that stage (though can't imagine it will be any time soon. 50 lucky trades is a lot, without guarantees or boosted events
Swablu Comm day is definitely missable. Like others, already have the shiny a few times. 3 i think, plus some fairl high IV ones, and some good PVP IV ones. So not overly bothered by it.

If I hadn't traded for one I might! They are supposed to have a boosted shiny rate too, something like 1 in 60. This is why I don't gamble.
