Pochettino | Agrees to be US National Team Coach

Most people had us 5th/6th in the prediction thread, so we’ve ended up in line with the overall consensus at the start of the season. I would not say it’s even been a good enough season. We were floundering in 10th-12th place for 32 out of 38 games and then did a late surge up the table in the last 6 games.

I’d say we’ve avoided a complete disaster and built up some momentum and good vibes going into the summer. That’s below even the lowest expectations I had but it’s at least not a bottom half finish with half the team looking disinterested with yet another summer of big changes and turmoil.
Well good enough in the end as you finished 6th. Think Poch will make another step next year and finish in top 4.

I hope you’re right. I’m more relieved than satisfied though. It was looking very dicey for us not that long ago

Bit of a train wreck start and took a while for Poch to get them going in the right direction. But finished strongly, what since Christmas they are 3rd or 4th in form?

Young team, there was always going to be inconsistencies. For me I'd give him another season, especially with how they have played in the last couple of Months.

If the league started in matchday 7-10 they'd have finished 4th. They picked up only one win in their first 6 games.

They've had a great 2024 so far, only three losses in the league - Liverpool, Wolves and Arsenal.

Yup, top 4 next season minimum needed and ideally Poch to shed his bottling reputation and win a trophy.

I've always liked Poch and still think he's a very good manager. I do not keep up with Chelsea, but, from the outside looking in, the stats this season usually indicated to me that Chelsea regularly dominated possession and created a lot of chances. It's just their finishing was in the gutter. I can't say I was surprised to see it coming together a bit by the end of this season.

I'm not like Amadaeus, though (who I thought got hard done by on here). Despite liking him, I am not rooting for his success. I was actually happy to look like I was going to be proven wrong on him

Funny because that's exactly what somebody trying to convince us they're not an Amadaeus alt account would say :nervous:

Your second mistake was spelling his name correctly

Maybe I am and I don't even know it. Like karma from Boruto.

Gutter is probably harsh. We wound up underperforming by about 4 goals - Palmer overperforming by ~4.5 more than offset by Jackson underperforming by 5 and a bit. Certainly not as atrocious as last year where we scored something like 14 goals fewer than expected, which was comically atrocious.

My mind in dilemma. I am totally opposite against his appointment but wanted to give first ten matches how he handled. Preseason was looking good then comes nkunku injury.

He failed to recreate the same pace and structure after nkunku s injury. Still able to create chances but structurally not organised and defensively vulnerable even in last few games we won.

In favour- He had a very young team with players like Reece, chilwell, nkunku failed to give 10 games due to injuries and couldn't able to field CB pairing 3 matches continuously. Gave youngsters from academy enough chances. Ignited cucurella career once again.

Against- Struggled to work out caicedo,Enzo midfield pairing. Most expensive Central midfield pairing in the world. Adding Gallagher into the mix should be a dynamic midfield trio in the league. Defensively vulnerable in structure. Need to create proper defensive structure especially when leading game.

Tuchel is the best option for them, IF both parties swallow their pride, and forget the past, and we don't want him...because I don't see him picking Chelsea over us.

De Zerbi / Amorim / Kompany could be real contenders as well IMO.

Hope we don't get Pochettino.

Ah well. Don't care. Bring Tuchel back home.

This is what having standards looks like lads we've not seen it at United for some time. Boehly is a tit but he genuinely wants to be successful at least.

I would take 10 more years of finishing 8th over being anything like Chelsea

They've obviously agreed terms with their new manager, probably trying to get ahead of us before ten Hag gets the boot after the cup final.

Question is who they've agreed terms with, McKenna or Tuchel?

If they hire Tuchel its just a ticking time bomb until he falls out with Boehly et al again.

I don't think Poch was asking for an unusual level of influence over transfers (ie, don't sell two of my most important players who are also academy kids). Tuchel would surely want the same kind of control or more.
