Pochettino | Agrees to be US National Team Coach

Seems inevitable at this point.

Any idea who you’d like to take over?

Truthfully speaking, I don’t know. My head says a horrible bastard like Simeone is exactly what this club needs, but that’s never happening.

London, Munich and Paris united in chaos. That would be great !
To be fair Munich are sorting out their chaos currently, getting Nagelsmann back would be kind of fixing a mistake made during chaotic times

After the Alonso news, I’m pretty much the same regarding Liverpool tbh.

Could be an interesting summer with us, Barca, Bayern, likely you and possibly United all looking for a new manager.

After 28 games last season* (Potter got sacked after that), Chelsea had 38 points and -1 goal difference. Now after 28 games, they've got 40 points and +2 goal difference. Last season they got to quarterfinal of CL, this season they didn't play in Europe. Last season Potter got knocked out of Carabao Cup in November (3rd round) and at start of Fa Cup campaign in January, lost away to City in both comps. This season Poch got to final of Carabao Cup and is in semis of Fa Cup.

*obviously Tuchel was there for first 6 PL games (winning 3, losing 2 and drawing 1)

So Poch just slightly better in the league while he did better in cups but playing easier opponents than Potter. Potter got to last 8 of CL which was not bad (and did well in group stage). Poch also had preseason, Potter did not. Don't watch Chelsea often so don't know performances wise if Potter's of Poch's Chelsea team perform(ed) better.

Also, Lampard took over for last 9 league games. He won 5 points out of maximum 27. One win, 2 draws and 7 losses. Even worse then it felt when it was happening.

Poch has no European football and has a full preseason. Chelsea also worked hard to trimming the squad from an awful 33 players to a more normal 25-26 players. Potter did not have those luxuries.

Would you give him until the end of the season? Appointing interim at this point wouldn't change much, it would perhaps improve your chances vs City at Wembley.

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t care what they do. Sack him now or in the summer, as long as we have a new manager in place before preseason.

Shhh, don't spoil the fun ;)

It’s also factually incorrect. The league cup final was 6 games ago and we didn’t even score in that game. Sorry  :nono:

Serves you right for trying to stick the boot in while we’re down in the gutter.

Yeah I get you, seems like it doesn't matter anymore. You've been unbeaten in league for 2 months now and are still in the Fa Cup, board will probably take that as a reason to keep him. Also Lampard failing as interim last time probably means they won't go for interim again this year.

It's not even true for league games only either. FFS. There was a bottle with a Chelsea badge on though, and that was fun. So I will take it as an alternative fact.

Man. United next up for Chelsea..

Poch can put his xG fantasy table to the test against them as Sterling and Jackson combine to miss ten one on ones as Chelsea draw 1-1.

I don't think Sterling has ever scored v Man. United in over a decade of playing them?

Potter is a bit like Moyes. Very good coach at setting up the team to play a specific style but I don't quite think he has the mentality to coach one where getting to finals and actually winning stuff is the expectation. I could actually see him returning at West Ham which would be a good fit and he'd do well with Bowen and Kudus.

Poch should've done much better given he has been managing consistently at the top level for pretty much the last decade. I really am shocked Chelsea continue to underwhelm so much under him. He was never this low with Spurs in his first season there.

Guess you'll look at whoever Liverpool or Barca don't pick. De Zerbi would be interesting pick but I can fully understand any Chelsea fan not wanting him just on account of him being yet another Brighton employee poached who completely flops.

Inzaghi would be intriguing if he could be tempted. Attacking yet structured football and Italian managers tend to do alright at Chelsea at least in the first season.

Now he’s gonna get a hat trick

He still deserves to be sacked. Leaving inexperienced and poorly-composed defenders in 1v1 situations constantly is beyond stupid.

Badiashile in particular has clearly regressed and shouldn't be left vulnerable - why we leave the backline exposed constantly all to get Conor fecking Gallagher into the side is completely beyond me

Chelsea were absolutely rubbish in the second half aswell, Poch got away with that big time.

You could see the issues that blighted them for the last 18 months. Too much individualism, players messing up 3s on 2s and taking wild shots, no one talking to each other and also Poch sitting on his hands when it was a basketball match at 2-2 whereas a Klopp or Guardiola would immediately make a sub or slow the game right down to get some control back.

Don't Chelsea have any central midfielders beyond the normal three? Gallagher completely lost his senses in the second half and was gifting possession and charging around the pitch leaving endless gaps and Caicedo wasn't much better.

Sums Chelsea up that they were 2-0 up and in control and in the end I have no idea how they won that game other than Cole Palmer is a very very cool penalty taker indeed.

:).

like pochettino mentioned, he need’s experience players. The scoreline was deceptive. Two of chelsea goals conceded was by blunder because of inexperience Players. Now he is 6 games unbeaten and first chelsea manger to beat United since 2018. Not to mention all the injuries he has to deal with and the inexperienced players.

what he is doing is remarkable with what he is giving. Palmer going straight to pochettino is clear message to everyone that doesn’t understand football that Palmer stick with him and knows pochettino is the one that will make him a superstar.

He's benched Silva because of his wife's comments (and his age).

Caciedo must've played over 100 games in the prem now so so o.k he's still young but he's more experienced in euro football than Enzo Fernandez is. And given the price tag he won't be dropped next season.

Probably the worst thing for them now is finishing 7th and playing Conference league next season. For all the money spent they really don't have much depth in certain areas and playing Thurs-Sun next season with no CL prize for winning the Conference league will impact them a fair bit.

Gallagher is just obviously not a top level player - yet Poch continues to build the entire team around him as a 10. It's utterly mind-boggling.

The depth is there if people are fit. Big if of course.

Add James, Chilwell, Lavia, Nkunku and Fofana to the squad and it's pretty deep.

More damning than Silva is letting Maatsen leave on loan after a handful of minutes as a right winger instead of playing him at LB/LWB where he was one of the best players in the Championship last year - now of course he's doing phenomenally at Dortmund on loan at LB and Bayern are apparently targeting him as their replacement for Davies.

the squad was built terribly. not just the pace of the overhaul, but also the focus on inexperienced players. I m barely wrong in football, but if chelsea sprinkle the right form of experience(or quality) in this team next season, Pochettino will challenge for the league. Same way Klopp got Alison and van Dijk that transformed that liverpool team, Pochettino needs that type of players. I don’t know who that could be, but a top goalkeeper, center back and of course striker/technical winger should be prioritized with an experienced cdm(if Lavia isn’t fit enough) as well to fix this squad issue

Gallagher would be great for West Ham, Palace (as shown in his year loan), Fulham, Everton if they were actually a desirable team to play for etc. Spurs link seems to crop up aswell so reality is he'll be sacrificed for your FFP requirements and probably do a good job similar to what Ward-Prowse, Longstaff etc do for their teams and still make England squads.

Who else can play number 10? Mydryk played their a bit but I don't think he's quite good the speed of thought yet in his mind to move the ball quickly, Carney endless injuries, Lavia endless injuries, Sterling already having his Riyadh flight ticket booked.

Ultimately it's just going to be another summer of Chelsea selling 100ms of player talent and signing 100ms of player talent. Defence is a total mess without Silva's organisation so you badly need a CB in the 28-30 year old bracket even if that goes totally against Clearlake's strategy.

Small time born loser. Celebrating hitting 10th like that sums him up. Ive seen more timid title celebrations

Returning in a blaze of glory. You are an utterly shameless human being - congratulations.

Poch is no better than Ten Hag. Pair of bluffers without any tactical nous

The reason there doesn't seem to be any depth is because at all times in the season we've had 8-12 first team players out injured. The injury list has been fecking ridiculous and any time someone comes back another one takes their place.

As for the Conference League, if we get there I could see us doing something similar as Milan a few years ago and voluntarily take a one year European ban to settle any potential FFP breaches. I'm pretty sure I remember the possibility of that was even mentioned in some article by the Athletic around the League Cup final.
