Gaming PlayStation 5

The Last of Us is one of those games that didn't click for me. I had a go at it on my PS4 and then again when I got my PS5, but I just couldn't get into it. Hard to put my finger on why, though I didn't really like any of the characters I saw, which obviously makes it harder to get into the story elements. Will stay open minded for the remake though, sometimes its just a matter of what you're in the mood for at a given time.

It is funny they're calling it "part one" now. It was clearly meant as a standalone story at the time and I doubt they ever considered a sequel.

I really tried to get into the first one but just couldn’t get past the crappy gameplay. I think I’d much prefer the second game but I feel like I need to complete the first before moving onto it and so I’m effectively stuck in a loop where I never play either.

That will make this part 1 the perfect gateway drug then!

People are just being openly conned at this point. They're just selling the exact same game to people with very subtle graphical differences. Who the feck gives a shit about that? And yet people buy it.

It has no right to be released as a full priced game again, if it was £25 I would probably pick it up to have a walk down memory lane.

I love ND and no doubt this will look and play great, but it looked and played great the first time around, then the second, I don't need to fork out £60 for a third.

Gamers as a collective are reluctant to buy unknown IPs which leads the industry to relying on re-releases and remasters.

It's a new-ish phenomenon but I think caused in part by the amount of half-finished-at-release games we get. Also generally by fanboyism, which let's be frank is rife in gaming.

Personally I'm somebody who very rarely replays games so I've always felt like a bit of an outlier. I'd prefer a new experience every time, even if it's not a perfect game.

The last of us was alright. Not something I feel the need to experience twice.

I’m the same. Sick of sequels and remasters. Give me something original any day. Some of the most fun I’ve had in the last few years has been playing stuff like Obra Dinn, Do Not Feed The Monkeys and Little Nightmares.

I don't mind full on remakes of classics (FFVII) or games that would be fairly shite now (Demon Souls), but yeah, this is a seriously dumb one. It was only released nine years ago, got a graphical upgrade 2 years later for the PS4, and now they're trying to claim it's rebuilt from the ground up when it doesn't look that much better. The original is still actually a great looking game for feck sake! I replayed it a few years ago and it was still great and didn't feel "old" at all. Why would you fully remaster that? It would only make sense if you had the first game and it was a €20 upgrade or something.

I think it's clearly a cash grab, they'll release this, then an upgraded version of the 2nd, then announce Part 3, then profit.

It will be on sale soon enough I'm sure.

This looks self defeating , I'm not even sure if it looks better per say, ellie's model looks better to my eyes in the og version for example.

Looks interesting, gonna check it out.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Paddles on controllers should be a standard now not pro versions, the drastic difference they can make to your playing ability especially on first person shooters should be available to all.

Having not used them, what would the paddles typically be assigned to?

Most decent controllers will let you assign them to whatever you want, but the standard is usually Jump on one paddle crouch/prone on the other (Shooters anyway)

This allows you to have full movement of your character without ever having to take your thumbs off the sticks which allows you to still aim and track people while going into prone/jumping etc. Which with a standard pad unless you play in the awkward claw style would mean one thumb would have to come off the sticks.

Would love some affordable pads with paddles. Am seriously getting RSI from crab-handing the controller in Souls games.

Looking a bit lean of late isn't it lads.

July's cat game will be, I'm sure, perfectly average and hyped for nonsensical reasons and then it's twiddle your thumbs time until October when Forspoken, which looks and sounds very much like a cavalcade of generic third-person action, will be hitting the haptics.

Still, it's not all is bad. That Callisto Projec looks like it'll make a nice Christmas gift.

I s'pose in the meantime the billions of copies TLOU Part 1 will inevitably sell (if we're calling it that now) keeps the shareholders mirthful.

With BOTW2, Starfield and God of War Ragnarkok all seemingly delayed until 2023, there's really not many big hitters left scheduled for the entire year. Looks slim pickings. Thankfully I have a backlog of games to clear out.

I brought the PS5 late last year and I must say I'm pretty disappointed in the exclusive content.
Looking like a waste of money.

What the hell were you expecting? They've released the usual exclusives (Horizon, Ratchet + Clank) along with a few ones we haven't seen before (Returnal, Demon's Souls) and more of the usual are on the way (TLOU, God of War). It's pretty much par for the course with every other PS console, in fact, if anything, it's ahead of the others.

We have SCUF to thank for that.

Ragnarok is coming out this year. The other two are delayed to 2023.

That still remains to be seen. I know all the rumours point to a Fall 2022 release, but it's June already and as far as I know they haven't shown any gameplay yet.

They did last year.

Oh right I forgot that does seem to include some short gameplay snippets. Still, it's in trailer form and heavily curated. I seem to remember them showing a fairly lengthy gameplay sequence well before release for the previous game.

They'll probably either have a State of Play for that in the next month or so, or have it be part of the PlayStation Showcase.

Cheers for that – agree it would really help in shooters without a doubt!
