Gaming PlayStation 5

But that’s not true. Most people like it but pick it for its technical faults which is fair. Pretending people shouldn’t play it at all though is disingenuous, they do some things very very well.

Nah the bugs were amusing. The shit gameplay and shallowness of the systems is why its deeply, deeply average. It had a good story and acting, everything else was utterly mediocre.

As someone who knows sod all about development I imagine AI is seen as a very difficult and very expensive thing to get right so it just gets put secondary on the list. Personally, it doesn’t bother me a huge amount in comparison to the gameplay and story, but I’d love to see a smaller open world go all out to improve AI as a way to incorporating it into the gameplay.

I know it’s not AI per se but I really think the Nemesis system in the Lord of the Rings games is absolutely brilliant and hugely personal to the gamer. Ive never really understood why other games haven’t taken that idea and made their own implementation. I love the idea of maiming some dude in Skyrim only for him to come back 5 hours later and try and seek his revenge.

Warner Bros patented the system unfortunately so anything that would resemble it would be in trouble, probably. It was a really shitty move by them to do that

Witcher 3 launched as a mess too, and some of the systems are still so broken even modders can't fix them (like the levelling system) to this day.

So let's not pretend it's just bugs what's holding CP back. It has major flaws with every aspect, including the city. As I said on release day, and will 100% be proven right, they will never turn it into the game they planned, promised and then hyped. Nobody could turn that around. It's been developed and designed from the ground up in completely the wrong way, that much is evident.

I'm just hoping any DLC at least does something with the gunplay/hacking. Then I'll enjoy it enough. Also, I'm seriously tempted to try it in VR too as I think that will actually make it decent

Final boss of Kena is down and I've done everything there is to do. That was a lovely game only let down by some brutally uneven balancing. For a debut game by that studio, it's excellent. I'll have to keep an eye on their next project.

Pretty much how I felt. Some of the difficulty spikes on bosses was mental, but it was lovely overall and I thought the rot were great.

Picked Kena up and not sure on it yet, probably an hour in but seems very repetitive as in send those little dude to the red thing then hit it with that shockwave thing.

Well, if you haven't played Metal Gear Solid V that game gives you a great amount of freedom to tackle enemies the way you want. It takes a little bit of time for you to get into the open-world area, but once you do it's an incredible game. The gameplay is excellent.

Then you have Horizon: Zero Dawn which is a PlayStation exclusive (well, it's on PC now as well, but console exclusive then) which is a fun world to traverse. Looks great, too.

That's two games I would pick if you haven't already played them.
Death Stranding.
Witcher and RDR2 are musts.

Witcher is a steal at £6.99 on the store for the GOTY edition and hours and hours of fun.

I ended up quite enjoying assassin's creed Valhalla and that has a ps5 update for extra sexyness. It took me a while to get into as I hated the combat at first. It does drag on a bit but it's definitely value for money, the hours you can get out of it is great.

I'm trying to hold out for a Witcher 3 upgrade for ps5 but I am itching for another playthrough myself.
There’s a PS5 update for the Witcher 3 coming out in 2022, so perhaps hold off on that one if you’d prefer the updated version.

Thanks all. Decided to go for The Witcher 3, since it was dirt cheap. What a game! I had completely forgotten how immersive these RPGs can be. Even the little card game is quite enjoyable.

Just downloaded this myself, not sure whether to wait for the ps5 edition though

I really need to try this again, started it twice and didn’t see it past the Griffon. Even without the PS5 update, it looks great on PS5.

Decent! Hmmm
I reckon still wait if you can. I don’t have a clue what the next gen version will bring but the Witcher is massive so it’s unlikely you’ll play through it more than once any time soon. Play it in its best state!

Aaah not sure if I should wait now or not.

I haven't read up on it all, so I have no idea how the versions will compare. But I have enjoyed it massively so far. It looks great, the load times are at a minimum and obviously the world and the game itself is awesome. Also, I got it for the equivalent of £10 or so (not sure if this offer still holds, but I bought less than a week ago). This includes both expansions, by the way.

I only have two very minor gripes. First, the game has crashed 2-3 times, which isn't really a big deal, since it autosaves all the time. Second, the horse really is a bitch to handle sometimes . Not sure any of this will be different in the updated version.

Isn't that like 5 minutes into the game  ? It feels like ages ago for me now. I've played it waaay to much over the last 4-5 days.

Not far off

I’ve always realised that it’s a huge game and each time I’ve fired it up, life seems to get in the way. Just one of those games I can’t get going with.

That happens, of course. The hours I can put in will also drop off massively once normal life starts again on Monday. It definitely is a massive game to start, and there is simply so much to do besides the main story. I'd even go so far as to say that the secondary story lines and one-off contracts are more interesting than the main story, so if you want to do everything it takes forever.

Another stock feck up?
This is the email

"I'm afraid we've been trying to get hold of PS5™ Console Covers – Midnight Black (Catalog Number: PS5COVERMB) for some time now, but unfortunately we have now learnt that Sony will not be selling this item via specialist games retailers such as ourselves.

I'm very sorry that we will not be able to fulfil your order for this item."

Finished Kena yesterday. Dropped the difficulty to easy in the end to get it done.

Very good game. Can't be arsed to go back and find all the remaining collectibles though.

Overall, well worth the £23 I paid for it.

I'm a few hours into Far Cry 6. I'm struggling to get through it. Just seems like the same game I played with 5 and Primal.

It's basically been the same game again and again since Far Cry 3, so that shouldn't have been a surprise.
Yep, I’ve learned now to not fall for it. The games always look so nice that I get tempted in but the shallow and repetitive nature of the games always disappoints.

Yeah I got it from Christmas. Just like 5. Played one, played them all I guess. Why the hell is FC 3 still so good? Hah. Feck this, I've so many other games that I'd prefer to play. Halo infinite, new Life is strange and the FF7 Yuffi DLC.

Finished Hitman 3. For a game that lives off playing it through more than once and in different ways this totally lacks replay value. I have zero interest going through 90% of the missions again to change a tiny bit of outcome and get other rewards. Really strange game. Didn't like the interface either.

I’m waiting for it to cost around £20 and then I’ll get it. I know it’s not gonna be great but I like open world games and want to play one.

I love the series but I’d agree with that. I did play a few levels over again a couple times but it really should have a lot more replay value than it does.

Horizon Forbidden West coming out soon so it looks like I'm going to have to finally buy one of these. Are they still like gold dust to find or will I get my hands on one?

It looks like an exciting year for games. As well as Horizon, I'm really looking forward to Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hogwarts Legacy, GOW: Ragnarok, Breath of the Wild 2, Starfield and PGA 2022 (first game in years to host all 4 majors).

They aren’t readily available but if you spend a few weeks looking you should get one. They regularly come into stock into the major retailers, just need to be quick and check daily. There are also stock sites you can subscribe to. Pretty sure there’s a twitter acc in Ireland for it too.

Nice one, thanks.

I've just found this on twitter so I'll subscribe and keep checking myself as well. https://twitter.com/ps5_ireland

I played the first mission in Dubai twice and was looking forward to what was coming but then it went a bit downwards. The Dartmoor mission was interesting to play through but in all honesty I have absolutely no interest in going through all the conversations and rooms again. Just not going to happen. Then you have Berlin. Same there. No interest in finding all those guys again and going through all of the club. Then Chongqing. Worst of all in terms of replay value. I had no idea what I was doing or where I was going half the time. No interest in doing that all over again. Mendoza was pretty fun and maybe something I'd play through again. And the last mission is pretty much done with one playthrough anyway.
So yeah bit underwhelming. Got it on the cheap though so I'm not going to complain.

Started Guardians yesterday. Pretty good so far. Combat is a bit basic but i'm already enjoying the bantz although not too keen on this version of Quill.

Just downloading my January freebies - Dirt 5 and Deep Rock Galactic (any good?).

Yeah I wish I never got this game, I realllly struggled to get into it. Feel like @Solius wont like it at all.

Might wait til it inevitably ends up on PS Plus. I have enjoyed previous Far Cry games but this one looks like it has so many issues.

I bought Far cry 6 last week with Xmas money and I’m not enjoying it so far. I much prefer the previous games way of unlocking things via challenges etc.
