Gaming PlayStation 5

Really like the look of Kena when i first saw it, the lack of reviews implying there is a embargo until it is released is concerning a lot of the time its because it's disappointing, fingers crossed.

For me I think it's worth remembering that they are first and foremost an animation studio and this is their first foray into making games, though some of their hires may have had experience with making games in the past.

The visuals I think will be great, likewise the story will probably be good due to their experience in that department. The gameplay itself will probably be where the questions are, and I think it'll review around 75-80 but what they've learned while developing Kena will put them in good stead for their next game.
Reminds me, need to see if he can send me a code.
Fingers crossed.

Ditto what Elvis said but I'd promote him instantly.

Apparently he only got given one code and everyone has already been asking. :(

Haven't played it so no real judgement but I do think you have to do something really special for a 3D platformer not to feel average. A good example is that Brothers game, which was elevated a lot by having co-op as the main feature.

I've thought for ages that this style of game might work better as a 2D game - similar to how I don't think Ori would transition well into 3D.

Still, it'll probably sell a lot and be a good basis for whatever they make next :)

There have already been three really special platformers released this year (Ratchet, Psychonauts 2, It Takes Two), any of which could arguably be called a GOTY contender, so I don't think it's too hard to make great ones, as long as you bring good ideas to the table. Ratchet and Psy 2 especially don't really do anything "new" but they're so well refined and fun that it doesn't matter.

Never the best sign when no reviews have come out for a game one day before release.

Just asked about this and he said he doesn't think they sent many out. Isn't sure why.

I need better sources.

I'm playing #KenaBridgeofSpirits ! Here are my first impressions:
- Best indie ever produced (at least for me);
- Stunning visuals;
- BRUTAL use of the SSD;
- Fabulous soundtrack;
- Super fluid combat and gameplay;
- Pixar movie level title
I can't comment any more about it, I hope you understand! I'm under an embargo and I'll tell you everything in my review there at TG, but I'll only post it after finishing the main story. I hope it's by Friday at the latest. Right now, all I can say is: TRUST

Just got home and my Ps5 just isn't being detetcted by my TV.

The lights on the console seem normal and it seems to be reading discs but the TV is not detecting a signal.

Tried all the usual troubleshooting and nothing is working and the TV is detecting other HDMI inputs (Switch).

Anyone got any ideas because at moment it's looking like my ps5 is bricked.
Had this problem a few times, had to reset my ps5 to get it back on. Eventually I used a different HDMI and I haven't had the issue since *touchwood*

It's a well known issue with the ps5.

I've tried everything and nothing works.

Finally got through to Sony and now they want me to send them pics of the HDMI socket on the console.

Yeah its definitely a HDMI issue. Hopefully you get it sorted asap, as far as I know Sony have been good with replacing faulty models.

Which brothers game? Those coop ones always interest me as I love them but have nobody to play with these days, all my mates have grown up and snort coke and bang hookers instead of playing video games. Dickheads.

Someone above has posted that the tech may not be there for bars currently but it most certainly is creating a 3d effect with 2 speakers on the TV.
The only thing '3D sound' can do with 2 speakers is add reverb, pan, eq and volume difference to give the impression of it, to very limited results. They can't do anything special compared to what say Dolby can do, despite what afro once tried to argue but then quickly disappeared when asked for details.

Sony tried to claim that it utilised more sound sources, but Dolby can too, they just sometimes choose not to, because it can get messy while a lot of sound is in the same frequency ranges, especially if it's moving and you need to prioritise some of it (such as enemies).

The whole thing screams marketing plot from the beginning.

@Solius' mate's game releases tomorrow. Here's the launch trailer released today

This looks ace. Lovely graphics

You can do 3d sound with a single soundbar some of the high end ones you can calibrate to the room and they bounce the sound waves off the walls in a way to give you the 3d aspect.

I know yamaha ones had this feature

https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/sound_bar/ysp-4300/ysp_technology.html

Never tried it so can't say how bad or good it is though.

Ah so that's basically using a mic to calculate which side to make changes on. Similar to Sonarworks software but for a different use. That's cool

@b82REZ

How you tried booting into safe mode?

Assuming you havent, unplug your ps5, power and hdmi. Wait for a 30 secs to a minute. Then plug them back in. Next up press and hold the power button on the ps5 until you hear a second beep. At this point you should see a safe menu pop up. If you get to this point, you can try changing you resolution to force to the tv to detect it again.

Failing this, there is an issue with samsung tvs where the hdmi doesnt see devices unless they are plugged in in a set order. Older samsung anyway and might be the same with some other tvs. What you wanna do here, is unplug all your hdmi cables. Unplug the tv and leave it for a minute. Then plug you ps5 hdmi in and nothing else. Then plug your tv power back in and see what you get. Best of luck, mate.

I've tied everything, bar unplugging the TV. I'll give it a go tonight, thanks.

Looks like kena will end up around 8/10 overall over the reviews. Good enough for me for a first effort I’ll probs pick it up this weekend!

I'm holding off getting kena. It's looks like a lot of fun. I've a feeling it'll be on PSNow in a few months time.

It didn't get good reviews from PC Gamer (65) and Eurogamer, two pretty good sources I think.

To me, Kena: Bridge of Spirits very much has first game syndrome - something with all the right ideas, weakened by their execution. If it does well - and given the fever with which it's been followed leading up to its release, I expect it will - it'll be because we often value AAA looks and mechanics more highly than attempts at innovation. I'm sure with this foundation Ember Lab has a great game in it, but this isn't it just yet.

This seems to sum up what people have been saying about the likelihood of the follow-up being better.

Would have been a great game to put on PSNow Day One if Sony ever go down that route. Xbox has gotten away with some dross this way (looking at you The Medium).

Bit premature to compare it to The Medium.

We'll see what happens when more reviews come in, but so far the first 'proper' game from a new studio is getting much more acclaim than that of a studio 10x the size and which has released more than 10x the number of games.

Yea you Muppet so maybe next time don't pontificate about a subject you know feck all about :nono:

:lol: no nothing about. Only have a studio and have been involved with sound for years.

That’s also a completely different thing to PlayStation’s 3D sound you moron.

You said you were too high to go in to detail when I asked you for more detail. Maybe lay off the weed my man because you’re clearly high again.

Still winging it, don't lash out because you got shown up :lol:

I used to be a sound engineer too as if that means anything. You were the one unaware of how they simulate sound with 2 speakers. If you had the better console you'd be able to see how the setup works and maybe not embarrass yourself by claiming:

Also it's "know" not "no" nothing...

:lol: used to love this show. How's it hold up?

You take this all far too seriously.

That’s a completely novel way of simulating sound with a sound bar you loon. Hardly the norm. And it’s nothing to do with what the ps5 does. You claimed it does something special then couldn’t explain why. You still can’t.

Thanks for the spelling tips. Some of us are taking a min out of work and typing fast, not smoking weed all day. These things happen.
