Gaming PlayStation 5

Maybe it’s has been answered or it’s obvious but would a PS5 bought in the US for the US market work in the UK on a regular TV?
My buddy’s trying to get one for his kid for Christmas but all sold out seemingly over there in yerp.
He’s now thought of buying one from the US, shipping to my house (I’m in the US) then I’d post it to him..

You need to look up the warranty info before doing that. Not sure it would be covered over here.

Great service coming through on Sunday night. Shame you couldn't have it earlier but at least you have it now. Enjoy.
Luckily mine is quiet, can't even hear it (sorry @Alock1). Getting stuck in now, my kid has finally relinquished the controller and gone to bed.

Lovely! Enjoy setting it up! Its a brilliant console.
;)

I'm not an expert so don't take this for gospel but I guess it would be like @altodevil's Series X from Norway - will work but needs a plug adapter.
@utdalltheway only thing to check is the voltage input. If it is like the Xbox, all models use the same voltage, they just use different cable amperage to get it from the country supply. Plug adaptor fine if the cable works with our 230-250v supply.

So if you can get the voltage to work, the AC frequency and the video standards (PAL v NTSC) don’t matter? If that’s the case then it’s becomes a possibility.

PS5 is dual voltage so just need to get correct cable and he will be sorted. I would be careful about just using plug adaptor due to voltage and amperage differences between UK and USA. EU and UK fine to use adaptor as voltages the same.

PAL & NTSC are analog standards, anything connected over HDMI is only digital and there is no region distinction.

 you now get one free name change.

Downloaded the new app earlier, it seems better
I do want to change it but apparently there can be some consequence regarding game saves so I’m reluctant.

the new app is so much better! I’m liking that it tells me when my download is done.

MM has an update today so might fix some of the crashing issues for people. Not crashed for me though.

I’m still avoiding rest mode for now, is that right? I did accidentally do it once but had no problems.

I put mine in rest mode for the first time this morning will report if its a disaster when i'm back home but with the issue of the front USB port being useless at charging the controller (takes so long/does nothing at all) i need rest mode so i can keep my controller charged when i'm not playing.

I'm in the same boat. I've been charging my spare controller using my phone charger.

Best way to do it imo

It feels awkward.

I'm used to having a controller permanently charged because one would always be plugged and the PS4 was always in rest mode.

Hopefully they address the rest mode problems soon because I'd prefer to be able to charge through the console when I'm not using it.

So the games that are downloaded onto the HDD, will they suffer with worse performances than games on the SSD?

It’s a joke that there’s charging issues at all. Mine stopped charging at all never mind taking an age. Had to reset the controller. They’ve made a mess of this launch.

I thought you can't actually play any games off the HDD? Just use them for storing and transferring of ps4 games.
You can play PS4 games off them. Just not PS5. Though I’ve read that even have the external storage plugged in may be causing problems too.

I wouldn't go that far.

New tech will always have teething issues and hardware faults will occur regardless. You may just be unlucky and received a bum controller.

The PS4 games that are being played will they not get the ps5 upgrades? Or do they need to be on the SSD?

There seems to be quite a few unlucky people. I never had any such issue with any other consoles I’ve owned. Controller issues, rest mode issues, one of their big opening games crashing regularly, storage issues. That’s without talking about the stock issues. The launch has been a disaster. When you pay £450 for something it’s not unfair to expect it to work.

Right, I'm caving and deciding I want one solely to play Demon's Souls.

As someone who's braving the rat race with no preorders, what's my best chance of securing one this year? I refuse to give scalpers my money.

Do I just patiently wait for one of the big retailers to briefly stock a few units and pray I reel one in? Or is there anywhere that's taking in preorders with a tenuous promise of delivering by the end of the year?

I accept I'm in a pretty hopeless situation but I did get lucky in snagging an Wii a week after release, so hoping my luck carries over with this one too.

How does the price affect whether you were lucky enough to get one at launch? Seems like moaning for moaning sake.

The issues are few and far between. Yes uts not nice when your new console crashes but lets not make out it ruining the experience for everyone. I've had the grand total of one crash in multiple hours of playing, and that only occurred when I left it in rest mode.

Rumours of a second batch being released in a fortnight or so. The issue is the wide spread botting when outlets announced the release time in advance.

I'd keep checking over the next 2 weeks and not rely on announcements

You always hear about the issues, you don’t hear about the millions of units that are fine.

I suspected as much, thanks.

I will once again recommend the charging station. I just put my controller on there when I’m done playing. My controller is almost always on full charge.
