Gaming PlayStation 5

Got the one with Spider-Man off Game, so my brother’s having the one from Amazon. That’s both of us sorted.

Were you guys forced to buy a controller? Got one too but thinking of cancelling as I might as well get the nondigital version instead of the controller

Nah, making the switch to PC. Its funny watching you guys pre-order 17 PS5s just to ensure that you get one

Sound is NSFW!

(I also have a custom built PC..but it has a point!)

How much of a waste would it be to buy a PS5 without a TV that features all the fancy stuff that it can use? I'm currently looking for a new set but it seems that my screen size limitations will mean it will be rather basic.

It depends if you give a shit about 4k etc or not. I had a PS4 pro before before I had a 4k TV. Other people really care about that sort of thing

PS5 will have exclusive games etc, if that's the main thing you care about? Just get one.

Don't worry about any of that as long as you're happy with your tv. If you're going to upgrade, it's worth keeping features like HDMI 2.1 in mind, but if not, don't worry and just look at the games.

If you don't really care too much about the different between 1080p and 4K resolutions, the framerates etc. It won't make too much of a difference. I don't care about those things too much, it's about the games for me, so wouldn't make a difference.

Missed it again. Both times I've been working nights and woke up too late. Fcuk sake

So I have Full Fat Edition from both Amazon and Smyths confirmed...

The DE that I order from Argos 2 weeks ago is still processing with no email confirmation but my Argos card has been charged...

Got one on Smyths Ireland, happy days, now I can cancel the amazon one that was being delivered up north.

Same here, fair play. Did you order for delivery or pick up in store? Got my pre order first time around but was in such a rush I chose delivery, hope it doesn't bite me in the arse

I went for pick-up cause there's one like 10 mins from me. I've gotten stuff delivered from Smyths before anyway, they're reliable. It's all tracked through An Post I think.

That's handy. Heard they're reliable alright and it's great they don't take any money yet like some others

My 2010 Panasonic 1080p Plasma handles motion better than any of these new OLED 4Ks. It also has a faster response time ya know, for serious gamers. Also My Philips cathode ray, with built in vcr, and the vcr doesn't play tapes anymore, has analogue response, which is essential for any proper gamer. New TVs can slightly improve toys like the Play Station or Fisher Price (just don't expect to be a true gamer on them) but otherwise what you have right now will be fine. Anyone telling you that you need a new flatscreen to replace your old flatscreen, for this console, is a clown.

A 4K TV with a minimum 60hz refresh rate and full HDR should be good enough. Yeah you could go for a higher refresh rate because PS5 apparently is capable of 120fps but that'll be few and far between especially as games use more horsepower along the generation.

So you're gonna stick to 1080p for the time being? True you'll get the higher response time if you're a competitive gamer but seems a bit of a waste to not utilise 4K if buying a next gen machine.

I have 2 PS5's pre-ordered and not a single game I want to buy for it.

Maybe I've made a mistake.

Ah well, it least it'll look good? Or.. well.. massive? At least it'll be massive.

I have a question. If I managed to buy one from very, they have taken the money, provided an order number, but so far haven’t sent a confirmation email, am I safe or should I be worried?

Well it defiantly wont look good, both consoles look pretty awful this gen. But there is a good launch lineup imo

What does the status on your account say? I got an email from Very two days ago confirming my order was on track and expected to be delivered on release date.

What is the response time of your tv?

Think it’s okay. An email came through saying it’s being delivered 28th Sept (ok!!!). Phoned up, lady said that the pre order was no guarantee and would have to phone up in 24hrs asking for a refund, I told her it was complete rubbish, got through to manager and they said they were speaking rubbish and order is ok.

How do these free upgrades work? With FIFA 21 as an example. Do you buy the game, keep the receipt then return and they will swap it for a PS5 version?

Surely it only works if you buy the game digitally?

You need the PS4 disc inserted in the console to play the upgraded version.

I don’t think so. I’ve read you can’t upgrade from disc version to digital and vice versa. I remember coming home when I got my PS4 with upgraded versions of Call of duty Ghosts and whatever FIFA was out at the time. But I can’t remember how it worked.

I’ve also read you can upgrade Rainbow Six Siege and GTA eventually. Along with Cyberpunk.
