Most of the people that bought the Pro wouldn't mind spending the extra money for a SSD, a lot of people I know ended up swapping it out themselves after buying it. Sony even made it so easy to do.No one is talking about it being cutting edge, it's just a proprietary interface in the PS5 which is not comparable to regular SSD on pc. MS might do something similar.
As for the last part, that's debatable. The PS4 Pro was released in November 2016. Average SSD price per GB was still somewhere around €0.3 at that time, maybe a little lower. I'm not sure how that price translates to console hardware but it's clear economics were still a factor. Perhaps they could've gone SSD but keep the capacity at 500GB, but that would've been problematic as well in my opinion. It's always a tough balancing act between price and performance.
Yes, by the time ps5 comes out NvMe will be the new standard.SSD drives are so 2013. All the cool kids use NVMe now.
I think Sony just wanted to price it low enough (same as the original launch price) in the hope that it would essentially become the new go-to model for newcomers, rather than simply an "elite" model for those who wanted to spend a bit more (and PSVR and 4K users of course). Most of the people that bought the Pro wouldn't mind spending the extra money for a SSD, a lot of people I know ended up swapping it out themselves after buying it. I hope they release 2 different models, have the PS5 or PS5 elite with extra upgrades. That way they can set a fair price and not cost cut to give us better performance out of the box.I think Sony just wanted to price it low enough (same as the original launch price) in the hope that it would essentially become the new go-to model for newcomers, rather than simply an "elite" model for those who wanted to spend a bit more (and PSVR and 4K users of course).
Indeed it will. I recently brought a Lenovo laptop I had thought was finished, back to performing like a brand new MacBook Pro, by installing a Samsung SSD. My mind was blown.

Is it confirmed Sony are going to be releasing two models of the PS5? An expensive, powerful one and a cheaper but not so powerful version?
I know Microsoft had it planned for Scarlet but then scrapped it and are now just going to be focusing on one console for now before releasing further new versions of it later down the line.

I knew someone would make a bitch ass comment like this but I didn't expect it from you of all people and I'll never look at you with the same loving affection again. If you type in NVMe on a shopping site it shows M.2 cards and it's generally the defacto term for them.NVME are SSD drives.

NVMe M.2 cards are where it's at, not S-ata SSD's, better?
Sounds like a modern day big business model. I assume they'd only do this knowing they want to charge a ridiculous amount that some won't pay. Then they'll start upping the lower cost models because "hey look, you can't expect to get such a bargain forever, there's R&D to do!". Ergh.Is it confirmed Sony are going to be releasing two models of the PS5? An expensive, powerful one and a cheaper but not so powerful version?

Did you just create a hypothetical situation so you can be annoyed in advance?Sounds like a modern day big business model. There'll be nothing left that doesn't absolutely stretch your bank account in 10 years time.
Yes But it's the way everything is going and it's getting tiring.Did you just create a hypothetical situation so you can be annoyed in advance?
Is it? Adjusted for inflation, both the PS4 and the PS4 Pro cost less than an NES at launch for example. In any case, the idea of 2 different models is pure speculation at this point.Yes But it's the way everything is going and it's getting tiring.
I mean everything else, and no doubt this will follow. It's only a matter of time.Is it? Adjusted for inflation, both the PS4 and the PS4 Pro cost less than an NES at launch for example. In any case, the idea of 2 different models is pure speculation at this point.
The PS4 had some of the best games of the decade that you can't get on PC and I imagine this will be the same.Save your monies and buy a PC
It's still a SSD , just different interface.SSD drives are so 2013. All the cool kids use NVMe now.

While PC gaming will always be superior, it isn't cheaper to go PC.
Also many, myself included, just prefer the ease and accessibility of consoles. Even having a powerful gaming rig I play most AAA games on console because I prefer to sit back and relax rather than being hunched over my mouse and keyboard.
Also you cant technically get the games you listed on PC so you're in the minority playing them on PC. The masses will always buy consoles and PC gaming will fill the niche for "hardcore"gamers.
I don't see the point of coming into a thread about PlayStation 5 and telling people to get a pc. That just creates the same tedious "discussions" we've seen ad nauseam. Clearly this thread is intended for people interested in the PS5.

Exactly, would have been better if you said get a Xbox @Igor Drefljak.
PC gaming is cheaper, more accessible and just a better quality experience
That depends on your viewpoint ... a console is a nice little black box that allows me to play games, have access to films, tv and spotify, is attached to my large tv and speaker system that I can play on my nice comfy sofa in my nice comfy living room. That, to me, is a far better quality experience Igor
True - and also the games on consoles get better over time as developers get more efficient with the system.Problem with PC is if you're not upto scratch with he technology side you can quite easily get robbed when buying. Also, you need to check specs of games to see if they'll run on your rig. There's also the way pc games push pcs to and past their limits so you need to upgrade for best performance. Console games are made with the consoles in mind so everyone gets pretty much the same performance.
I used to love PC gaming by now I much prefer console gaming due to not having the space in the house for a dedicated setup, and getting less time to play these days means a console is easier just to pick up and play for me.
It wouldn't have been much better though as more and more PS games are coming to the PC.
As I said if I wanted to play TLoU, Detroit, God of War, Bloodborne and a lot more, I can now do it on a pc.
The only reason I mentioned the PC thing is because I think a lot of people don't realise how long term, PC gaming is cheaper, more accessible and just a better quality experience, and with the talk of the PS5 being 5-600, jumping to a PC is a good argument to make
But I'll happily leave the thread I won't miss it!
How?More and more of them are coming to the PC though.
I can play Detroit, God of War, The last of us and a lot more 'exclusives'
I have a PC but also a console peasant too. It just seems to me people are getting ripped off, the SSD in the pro is one example.I don't see the point of coming into a thread about PlayStation 5 and telling people to get a pc. How?
The latest high end cards and processors last a long time these days, even when you do start falling behind you just turn the details down a notch and it's still an amazing experience better than any console. But I agree you need to know what you are buying when building it.Problem with PC is if you're not upto scratch with he technology side you can quite easily get robbed when buying. Who is getting ripped off? In your last post on the subject you said people wouldn't mind paying extra for the SSD, so how are people getting ripped off by not paying extra?I have a PC but also a console peasant too. If what they are saying the PS5 is going to cost is being true, then yes it will be a rip off. I mean the graphics card they are planning to put in isn't even top range, it might be even more out of date when the console is eventually released.Who is getting ripped off?
