Gaming PlayStation 5 | Forza Horizon 5 coming Spring 2025

This is, very comfortably, the worst gaming generation in my lifetime, imo.
I did think this gen might end with some really great titles and it still might, but I can understand why people are disappointed. It’s kind of sad that the haptic feedback controller gimmick has only really been implemented brilliantly with Astro Bot.

Question for you guys: Obviously you are both on PS5 playing SE:5, I've just started playing co-op with my youngest (Xbox - Steam crossplay) and there is often voice issues and occasional shot lag. Are your servers fine, or do you get the occasional issues?

Oh and invasion is such great fun, shame you can't 2v2 doing it.

Never had any major issues with shot lag or voice issues.

Last session we had the other week had a couple lag spikes and game dropped out twice I think but that's basically it in all our time playing it I think. Other than that has been spot on.

Hopefully the server issues get sorted so you can enjoy it in all it's glory. Also tip: the best load out has you carrying 3 grenades

2vs2 invasions would be hilarious and pure chaos. Some players are absolute beasts on invasion, they just know everything, and are in your head knowing what you're doing instantly.

Phenomenal game for coop.

Agree - haven’t had any issue with shot lag. Had some issue with lack of ability though….

Although you can’t do 2vs2 invasion, you could probably setup one of the other game modes and have a team deathmatch?

Also, on Axis, you can send a friend a code of the game you are playing so they can invade your game I think. So if we were doing a coop game, then potentially you could invade (and think it works cross platform too).

Worth a try!

But yep - absolutely fantastic game and can’t wait for the SE Resistance on Tuesday!

Why? You really want to show redlambs our pure lack of skill and intelligence?

I'm off work Tuesday and Wed too

We've had a lot of power cuts recently, and my 4tb external HDD for my PS5 has bit the ghost.

Really upset. Don't think I can justify a UPS, but definitely tempted. Course most of the power cuts have been when the PS5 was in rest mode (but not all) so I should probably shut it down properly if they're going to keep happening.

Yeah, it's a great series and 5 is really under rated amongst the masses.

Though I do still maintain the sniping is too easy. "Authentic" really should feel like you deserve the shot.

Oh, I'm not who you have to worry about.

In fact, I would pretty soon defect to your side and try to 3v1 the little shit

@Redlambs me and swoosh having a few issues tonight of crashing out of game, and a bit of lag. Weird as hell as always been mega stable till this point.

Guess it's something to do with the new game and doing something with the servers. Quite annoying

Edit: also, highly recommend the DLC levels, they're brilliant. Much improved over the base game, we've played 3 of them so far and all have been great.

Landing Force my favourite so far. So many positions to take up and ways to go

Yep – really good map that! Would be a good one to try multiplayer on!

Blows my mind that all Sony had to do was make a PS5/PC port that runs at 60 frames and they would have made tons of easy money, instead spunking money on live service games or remasters that didn't need it nor no one asked for like Last of Us 2.

I remember when they first got this to just load like it was yesterday, this is unbelievable progress

The rate of progress on this has been absolutely mindblowing. I'm guessing that in a few months it'll be stable at higher resolutions than 1080p and the remaster project mod will be fully functional as well.

Generation has been fine for me personally, but I get it. Sony have made so many mistakes, literally dumb decisions that leave you wondering what actually happened?

Anyway between PSVR2 and PS5 (and PC) Mr backlog has just gotten bigger. Way too many games for me to play...

I’ve bought 4 PS5 controllers (the official ones) and 3 of them have developed this issue where the L3 / R3 buttons sway to the left, making it annoying to play games.

These things cost around £60/70! Beyond a joke really.

I saw a few good deals on these controllers for around £35 on Black Friday but didn’t pull the trigger.

Anyone know where I can get a new official controller without selling a kidney? Cheers

Sony are well aware people are gagging for a Bloodborne remake/remaster. They'll make more money making it a PS6 system seller when they announce the remake along with it.

Controllers being completely rubbish doesn't help a weak generation. I think thats what pushes it into worst territory.
I'm not sure its games that even make it bad, i haven't lacked stuff to play on pc. Wouldn't say its been especially strong but not bad either.

Huh?

I've had some similar issues, most annoyingly with the Spidey controller. Every time I've had it though, I've contacted Sony and they have ended up replacing it with a new one, including the Spider-Man one.

The stick drift is awful. But on the other hand, the dual sense tech is the most next gen aspect of this gen. Drift aside, it’s such a game changer when it comes to immersion.
I'm just not partial to vibration in general. Its something i'd turn off in most cases. I dont hate the ps5 version of it, which is probably a pretty big compliment in my case. Or i dont hate it when they make good use of it. With the reliability of the controller i just dont use it outside of ps5 exclusives these days though.
Its not just the ps5 anyway, the xbox and switch controllers aren't great this generation by most reports (at least as far as not breaking).

Absolutely love it. Returnal with its use of the dual sense is just incredible (it’s amazing anyway of course). In fact many of the games that have used it well or even decently, I simply wouldn’t touch without the controller features because it improves the experience so much. Like I can’t imagine cyberpunk now without the gun specific feedback.

The drift is terrible though. I’m in my third controller in three years.

I've cracked mine open and repaired it a couple of times. I just use an old xbox controller most of the time.
Theres been other generations with ropy hardware but everything about this generation feels like paying a premium for pretty mixed quality. I find its a very cynical market at the moment and doesn't inspire warm feelings or enthusiasm.

cheers, will reach out to Sony to see if they can sort me out.

Another really crap month for PS+ monthly games, I feel like the additions they make mid-month hold far more value now even if they disappear again in time.

Decided to give Kingdom Come Deliverance another go after trying and dropping it back in 2020 (time flies!). Figure if I can get into it this time I may be up for getting the second one.

So far I’m really enjoying it. I’m still pretty rotten at the combat in general and by Christ it can sometimes be slow but just telling myself this is meant to be played at a slower pace and not every hour needs to be productive. On that theme I spent an hour last night pissing about trying to rob somebody, getting caught and reloading a save, it can be properly brutal at times. But the progression does feel really good because ultimately you start with nothing and basically as a nobody.

Yep I'm obsessively playing this for like 5 hours a night. I started off awful at combat too. Train with Bernard a lot and learn riposte which will help a lot.

You'll soon settle into a way of fighting. I like to bide my time and stab at the head. Reached the point now where I am able to take down a group of bandits with little issue, but I still struggle against multiple armoured foes which I think is natural. I tend to sneak in and stab those ones in their sleep if I can.

I've had one get stick drift and yeah, it's annoying, for the price, but citing that as why the generation is crap seems... silly? The consoles themselves are far more reliable than the 360 and PS3 were, for example.

Dunno about PS3 but my PS4 never once needed a repair and my son’s PS5 has had to be repaired once already. Kept powering down for no reason. Apparently it was overheating due to dust accumulating in internal vents. Loads of people online with the same problem.

My PS1, PS2, PS3 were indestructible and probably still work to this day. My PS4 the disc drive had a fault and I had to void warranty with a DIY fix. My PS5 has been flawless.

Was mostly a reference to Xbox's, especially the 360, but the PS3 did have a lot of issues, too, lots of YLODs.

Dismissing a console generation because the controllers have issues is just weird. Fecking Nintendo Switch was a bastard for it with the joycons, does it discount that too?

Never had a problem with stick drift but the L2 button on my controller regularly acts up, like it is being permanently pressed.

I fix it by hitting the controller.

The games library would be the primary reason i think its a bad generation. The high cost and low build quality clinch it as the worst.
The 360 was desperate, i presume if you ask someone about that generation it'll be one of the first things mentioned and one of the reasons i'd mention it in conversations about the worst console generation. Anecdotally i've heard of more problems with PS5's than PS3's.
I did mention switch controllers too for what its worth.

I've bought way more games for the ps5 in the first 4.5 years than I did for either my ps4 or ps3, and this is with less time to play games than I used to have. So personally I don't feel that way at all and it's always towards the end of a generation you start to get more and more big ones.

Yeah the ps3 wasn't great, was saved a bit by a really strong end to its life. Theres time to turn this generation around but with the GaaS mess its hard to see them getting enough games out to do that.

Yeh I was thinking of doing abit more of the training. Not only do you learn some useful stuff, but you also level up the fighting in the meantime. I haven’t got the foggiest how to pull off combos or anything like that despite unlocking a couple. I’ve also only really tried shortswords so maybe I should experiment with some different stuff. I find the archery also oddly satisfying within the cursor. I’m shite at it, but it’s fantastic when you actually manage to dome a headshot.

Yeah I struggle with the combos and find they just leave me open after the first swing. I stick to jabs mainly

Archery is equal parts infuriating and also satisfying. It's actually really difficult to hit a moving target like a hare. I actually got three out of three attempts the other day which felt really good.
