Players you had forgotten existed

Bit of a random one. Was reading the Zaniolo thread just now and someone mentioned Coutinho was at Inter as an 18 year old. I remember Benitez gave him a few games in CL in 2010 and pretty sure he played v Spurs (either one of the Bale games). There was another young player starting for Inter at the time, think he was called Jonathan Biabiany. Anyone have a clue where he ended up?

He ended up immortalised as a FIFA legend for being the fastest player on the game for quite a few years.

Currently playing for Parma mate

Seems he's had an odd career of just moving between Inter and Parma every few years. Had a year off football because a heart issue was detected and also randomly spent 2017-18 on loan at Sparta Prague.

Man, some FIFA 09 legends in there. That's where I remember them from

Seems Obasi has been mostly playing in Sweden, with brief spells in China and Bolton. Carlos Eduardo went to Russia then back to Brazil. Breno I think did went to prison then to Brazil for Sao Paulo. Mainstays in my multi CL winning all conquering Wolves team!

Checked also some others; Ibisevic Salihovic Ibertsberger (imo the worst LB who ever played in Bundesliga).

Btw. for Bayern guys jail seems to be like a 2nd home ;)

Frode Grodas - Someone mentioned a player called Frode Kippe on another thread. Never heard of him but made me remember Grodas.

Timo Hildebrand

Thought he was a really good keeper at one point but his career took a steep downward curve

He was also the face of German tyres

Anders Lindegaard. To think that he initially threatened De Gea's position and was our main keeper for a season. He then stayed with us for five years and basically never played. Moved on to West Brom, Preston North End and finally Burnley where he has been since 2017 and has yet to have a league appearance. In fact, looking at his career, he has barely played any football. His year at Aalesund is the only time he has been a regular starter. 139 total appearances in sixteen years. I thought he was alright.

Remembered Marc-Antoine Fortuné earlier.

Didn’t realise he was still bouncing around the English lower leagues, barely scoring.

Perhaps not so strange considering he is 54 years old. He is one of Norways best goalkeepers ever (Thorstvedt is probably number 1) - and he is currently goalkeeping coach for Norways international team. You ll see him on the bench in the next World Cup (if we qualify :)

R. De Laet plays as a striker these days, currently in A-league. 14 apps - 6 goals this season, also set a club record for fastest goal ever in league.

Ritchie de Laet was one of my favourite FM players. What a squad option to have - RB, LB, CB and even CDM when needed. Not gonna forget him in a hurry.

Jackson Martinez
Went to China and out of the radar.

Jackson Martinez had a career wrecking injury and went to China. He's on loan to Portimonense now, but clearly the injury ruined his physical abilities, as you can clearly see him struggle just to make simple runs.

Still has a nice touch, though.

Timo Hildebrand

Thought he was a really good keeper at one point but his career took a steep downward curve

He was also the face of German tyres

I remember Sporting fans being glad by hiring Hildebrand, just to realize that he had become a liability and never to play again though.

Just contributed to the Chelsea thread about their squad now being a bit on the old side and I was shocked to see Marco Van Ginkel's name actually listed as part of their first time squad.

I remember this game being incredibly rated when Chelsea signed him, people saying same stuff they are saying about Frankie De Jong now.

Think he got a bad injury his first season and then fell out of favour before the inevitable loan moves, think he went to Milan and then back to Holland but those were a few years ago now so amazed he's still actually at Chelsea as would've thought they'd have cut their losses and let him go for small fee.

Yuri Zhirkov

Just switched on BEL-RUS, and he reminded me of his existence by fouling Hazard in the box.

who was the guy for Middlesbrough, 2 goals on his debut against us then anonymous?

Hatem Ben Arfa... randomly turned up on my tv a couple of weeks ago playing for Rennes. Had to peer out of my front window to doublecheck I didn't have a DeLorean parked on the drive.

Yeah Afonso Alves. Scored millions of goals in Dutch league. Also scored 4 I think for Boro v Man. City when they won 8-1. Brazil were also incredibly calling him up in this period.

Had an awful 08-09 and think he went to play in middle east.

Southampton's captain.

Edit: Would say Lemina is more forgotten since they changed manager. I remember MOTD going way over the top praising him after his debut.
Garth Crooks said in his weekly column that Lemina is the player that Arsenal need desperately.

Who was that guy who out of nowhere scored a million goals for Frankfurt about two seasons back?

Think he was in his 30s by then so just possible he retired or about to.

Ganso.

Early in his career he was predicted to become the next great Brazilian #10. He was linked with big money moves to Milan, Barca, Madrid etc. Never fulfilled his early promise. Made 28 appearances for Sevilla in 2 seasons and 13 for Amiens in the next. Moved back to the Brasileiro last summer.

Alexander Meier? Plays for St Pauli now.
