Players leaving at HT vs Real Vallecano

The only possible excuse is that they left to watch the Women's Euro Final. But even then, it's not a good excuse for failing to support their own teammates.

Do we know that Ronaldo left at HT, as in: before the match resumed?

Initially, it was suggested that he left fairly late.

I can somewhat understand non-match day players leaving but it does absolutely nothing for camaraderie.

Despite all the ‘clean sheet’ for players spin & the way that certain players who left on a free this Summer we’re banded as ‘the problem’, the least you can all do is finish out the game. Ronaldo being part of the match day squad then leaving is a terrible example but those who weren’t but did the same are just as bad for me. Lots of youngsters out there, cheer them on.

Yea i don't have any issue with them, to me they're like fans in the stadium because they're not on duty, Ronaldo was.
 
I’m not keen on the players not in the squad leaving, at most a bit of a talking to but obviously that pales in comparison to somebody in the squad leaving.

It’s amazing how often one “model professional” can be right in the middle of nonsense.
 
It's not exactly a good look, leaving early.

But then again, they did show up - which they didn't have to by all accounts (they actually had the day off).

Ronaldo is 37 and has been in the game long enough to know this will be picked up on, especially with all the transfer rumours going on. He knew what he was doing.

Im beginning to think Ronaldo's precense last season was a big reason why there was a fracture in the squad. Not the only reason, but it made it an absolute circus clown show.

I can genuinely understand the non playing players leaving early. The fact that a lot of the players who played the day before weren’t even at the ground, it’s good that those who did come actually came along.

What isn’t acceptable is Ronaldo leaving when he should be sat on the subs bench. We had a whole host of young players in the squad that day. It just sends out a terrible message to them about the ethos. How can you build team spirit and respect for each other when certain players are given visible preferential treatment. Regardless of who you are, the rules should be the same for every player. If anything, it’s disrespectful to the other players in the squad.

Exactly. With all the speculation around him at this moment in time, he had to specifically choose that game to make a scene.
 
It was a friendly who cares, you lot love the drama. ETH will make clear his expectations and that's that.
 
I echo what others have said. The only one that I question is the one that was playing because he prepared that game with these players, he was in the dressing room with them hours before the game and at half time. Maybe it's normal for certain players but I couldn't do that, I would take a quick shower and sit on the bench with my teammates or in the stands and join them after the game in the dressing room.

Now I don't know if players should be sanctioned, I don't know the rules within the club.

Question is what the feck he's playing at, though.

Putting pressure on United to let him go (but I'm fairly sure we don't mind letting him go - we need a buyer, though)?

Or just general petulance?
 
Has it been confirmed that the players who weren't in the squad left at half time, or whether they just left early? Just seems a bit pointless to leave at half time if being there was entirely optional, whereas I can understand leaving 5/10 minutes early to beat the traffic.

Wouldn't be surprised if Ronaldo left at half time and the others who left did so just before the final whistle, but Ten Hag is grouping them all together so it doesn't seem like an attack on Ronaldo.
 
What else could be more important than a match day for a professional footballer? Regardless if in the squad or not.

Dalot left with Ronaldo, even then I doubt it’s half time and maybe more around the hour mark.

Leaving his first (and the clubs last) preseason game at half time, a week before the season starts, just after having three weeks extra off. He knew this would cause a media shitstorm, the absolute cock of a man.
 
I imagine Ronaldo was allowed to do pretty much his own thing and had a lot of power with Ole

Now, it sounds like ETH is running a tighter ship (good it's what this bunch needs) and he's being treated like the rest of the squad and doesn't like it
 
Players who were given a rest after playing the previous day leaving doesn't seem like an issue to me. They came in as spectators on their day off with no obligation to be there, so them leaving earlier isn't a problem. Players who aren't part of the matchday squad, sitting in the director's box are free to do whatever they want since they aren't there as part of the team that day but rather as spectator.

I mean some didn't even show up for the game further proving that the players didn't have any obligation to be there in the first place, so them leaving early shouldn't be an issue. Ronaldo on the other hand behaved poorly with that stunt of leaving early despite being part of the matchday squad.

It was a friendly and someone probably authorised it. Maybe Ten Hag wasn’t aware and it’s not like its the first time in the last few years.

I would have expected him to stay til the final whistle and show a good example if he was planning on staying but this is no surprise to a guy that doesn’t give a toss and wants out.

The sooner he’s shown the door the better.
 
Tell them to never to do it again and move on. Does feel like a massive overreaction from the media in my opinion.

Bolded doesn't make sense. Those 3 weren't part of the matchday squad and had no obligation to even be in the stadium. They were free to do what they like. I mean some who weren't part of the matchday squad didn't even show up at the game further proving that the trio had no obligation to be at the stadium. Players who come as spectators, in the directors box leave early all the time. The egregious bit is Ronaldo leaving early despite being part of the matchday squad.

Some clubs will be interested if it is on a free, and he lowers his wages enough which he seems to be willing to do. Or it would be a loan with us subsidizing his wages.

Basically if he is disruptive enough, he’ll force our hand to find something workable, albeit shitty for the club.

It’s a lose-lose for United here. Force him to stay and deal with petulance and a media circus in a very important year for Ten Hag and the rebuild, or let him go at a big financial loss and with barely any time to bring an adequate replacement in.

Tbh I never understood the whole thing where players don't come watch the team play if they are out of the squad or injured or whatever. You are part of the team, right? Then you go with the team, to every game. And stay the entire game. They are never just "fans", they are always part of the team, even if they haven't been selected that game. I know that's just not how it is these days, but if it were up to me I would 100% make it an obligation for every senior player to attend the game, even if they are not selected, unless they are being kept for training/fitness. Be there and support your team.

For the players who weren’t in the match day squad, it’s a gray area (and ETH himself said it’s unacceptable) so that might be a bigger deal than it is (assuming it was something they’ve done multiple times before), but in Ronaldo’s case, he was playing the first half! Even if it wasn’t a big deal, first game back for him, he should’ve stayed especially since there is so much drama around him.. bad move from him in my opinion.
