From the below list of former United players which two would you take to give Amorim in the present day? You can obviously pick who you like but think more who would compliment what we already have and offer the biggest uplift to the squad;

GKs
Schmeichel
VDS
Barthez

Def
Irwin
Evra
Rio
Valencia

Mid
JS Park
Carrick
Keane
Beckham
Scholes
Giggs

Forward
Cantona
Rooney
RvN
Ronaldo

Rooney and Keane as they'd have the biggest impact. Ronaldo would probably be uncomfortable in this system.

In order of impact which they would have to current team.

1. No9. Ruud
2. Creative dmc. Scholes
3. No6 plus leader. Keane
4. No10. Rooney
5. Gk. Pete.
6. Left back. Evra
7. Central centre defender (sweeper). Rio.
8. Right back. Irwin

Btw; you are generous with term "legend". :)

Keane is the obvious one. He'll set the standard and demand others to up their performance.

Irwin probably the second one, we're in need of a left wing back and he'll share the same room with Keane which would help Ineos to save some money.

Probably Scholes and Rooney, but Park would be great as that LWB
Yup this would be my answer too. Scholes would be great in the midfield alongside someone like Ugarte as he can control the tempo of the game and help us be better in possession.

Rooney would thrive in one of the number 10 roles.

Opened this thread and was absolutely certain it had to be Keane as the first name
But as I was typing I started to realise this current team needs an elite passer to help us start to control games
So I'm going with Scholes
Rooney absolutely has to come in as a 10 for this current setup as well

Giggs definitely, people forgot how good he was given his arsehole level coming becoming public knowledge post retirement. Him as the flying teenager with all those years ahead of him

I reckon Keane would love the pressing of modern football and his ability on the ball would really come to the fore at the pace the game is played at

They're both stone cold winners too, the squad definitely needs a few more of those

Giggs is the best option for that problematic left wing spot. Rooney as one of the number 10s makes too much sense not to pick him (although Cantona is such a tempting option too…). I feel like those two may be more important than Keane as we’ve got the right profile of a player (although not nearly as good as Roy) in Ugarte. Scholes would also bring in so much but Mainoo at least has potential.

Højlund
Rooney - Bruno
Giggs - Ugarte - Mainoo - Amad
Martinez - De Ligt - Mazraoui
Onana

With Yoro as the first sub (and Mazraoui covering for wing positions if we need a more defensive option). And Garnacho coming off the bench, not there’s really a good position for him in Amorim’s system.

Somehow it’s still does not look that great…

Roy Keane was an excellent passer, he wasn't a Xavi, or Pirlo or whatever people expect in there. But he could dictate the play and play those line splitting passes all day long.

To hear Keane talk about himself, you'd have thought he was a bits and pieces player with a hardman act who was really lucky to be playing next to Paul Scholes, and he's probably done it for so long that people start to believe it. Incredible all-round footballer.

Neville is even worse for that.

Yeah, he makes it sound like he was some sort of water carrier who did all the dirty work. A much better player than Rodri in my opinion. He was probably the best or one of the best midfielders in the world from around 98 - 2003/2004.

Keano would always be my number one pick. Sheer will to win and the demands he placed on himself and the team. He used to raise the team so many levels. It was like having Sir Alex on the pitch.

Alongside Keano I would always have the King who again was immense in his charisma and influence and effect he had on the whole club.

Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, methinks. For the playmaking central midfielder and left-sided wingback positions, respectively (though depending on the stage of their careers they could readily cover other spots too.)

One might subjectively argue that we have more urgent and prominent needs. But in terms of squad construction, these are among the most difficult profiles of players to identify and recruit in the contemporary period. For example, even Real Madrid have struggled to adequately replace Kroos and Modrić, so a consummate game-dictating and tempo-setting midfielder in the vein of Scholes would definitely be worth his weight in gold — and really open up the team in all passing ranges. As regards Giggs, we desperately need someone with his dribbling ability, trickery in possession, acceleration and top speed, stamina, tactical nous and eye for the final ball.

Capable left-sided centerbacks (to replace Martínez and Shaw), goalkeepers (to replace Onana and Bayındır), No. 10s (we have quantity instead of quality) et cetera are much easier to acquire in the present day, so these positions could be subsequently addressed in the mercato.

Giggs and Keane.

Between them you could cover the wingback spots, an attacking midfield spot, a defensive midfield spot and probably even an RCB spot in a pinch.

Evra and Valencia as two wing backs, especially Tony V. He'd be a beast of a wing back.

If I'm picking from the middle, Scholes/Keane(c) and Rooney.

We need more creativity and goals in the team, so I'd go with Rooney, and then I can't decide between either Scholes for creativity in CM or Giggs for that LWB position.

Rooney and Ronaldo.

If you have those two attackers at their peak, it gives you an edge over any team in the league.

You can buy functional fullbacks and midfielders for a system, but that level of attacker is like gold dust and instantly transformative

Scholes would always be my first choice and then probably Giggs because he could play as the left sided number 10 or as the LWB. I might have to sacrifice one of them for Beckham though just so I don't have to watch Bruno taking corners.

Giggs at lwb and beckham at rwb. Would be incredible. Any times this questions are asked I want Keane really, but for a change I'll go these 2.

Keane in middle and Rooney at 10 wed be fantastic too.

I was watching highlights of the 2-4 win at Highbury, the one where Keane was telling Vieira he'd see him "out there", and only just realised the pass he made to find Giggs who crossed for Ronaldo to head into an empty goal was a perfectly timed and weight pass with the outside of his foot. Some players have great technique but can still look awkward (Thomas Muller comes to mind.)

Absolutely. Ron up top and Roon behind him.
