Everyone saying this is the market rate - but I don't think it is. This is still the collateral from the Neymar transfer where 220m of fresh cash got gifted into the transfer market. That's still being distributed around, the markets got to calm down soon or else at this rate clubs will be making a maximum 2 signings a summer.

Or maybe, just maybe it'll force clubs to invest more in youth and start trying to build a team that way with the occasional signing.

Any theories as to why its a January move?
Would signing him now allow Barca to sign Griezmann in the summer free of FFP?

We were looking to sign vvd and keita well before barca registered their interest in Coutinho.

Yeah Liverpool are a club that splashes £75m on a decent Centre back like they are Man City...they definitely have the pockets for that. Maybe Pool will go out and get Griezmann as well?

They don't have to worry about FFP. They wanted him in the summer and I guess they compromised with Liverpool for a Jan move, because Liverpool not wanting to do business on deadline day.

could be simple as Barca wanted him in summer, couldn't get him and still want him now.

@MaxiPaxi
I wouldn't say that, PSG had to sign Mbappe on loan for a reason.
Coutinho and Griezmann would be 280m euros between them, plus Arthur in midfield as well. (40M I think?)

World Cup Summer.

Smart clubs will be doing anything they can get done now.

It's José has upped the pressure on Woodward I believe - World Cup Summer and a chairman who drags transfers out is not the ideal scenario when trying to challenge for PL supremacy again.

Interesting from Paddy Power, you can get 21/10 on him still being a Liverpool player on Febuary 1st, 3/10 that he'll be at Barca by then.

I see no reason why they would sign him in January, he cant play in Europe and they already have one hand on the league title.

That's the rub though. So many loop holes - it may as well be obsolete. Look at Milan doing business with all sort of clauses and obligations to buy in a couple of years.

I don’t think we’ll sell mid season.

I think you lot are gonna sell to get the funds back for Van Dijk and Keita. I wouldn't think they would sell midseason but they could hace had this agreement in place at the end of the summer to get Coutihno to shut up and play since he was threatening a strike.

indeed. not sure Glazers could be fecked with that.

Hate them, but wouldn't blame them tbh, the market is horrible, and when we come knocking clubs will just take the mick more and more, hopefully we can use free transfers, release clauses, and Raiola to our advantage.

Don't deny it, but he's not a player that should cost that much, if this was at the same place 2-3 years ago you'd be looking at £50 m max, not sure where the extra £80 million comes from.

Transfer fees are irrelevant I’m not sure why anyone tries to find reason in them. If a club wants a player, and the selling club agrees to sell, then it doesn’t really matter what the fee is.

Sue over what? It only holds water if theres an agreement with a NDA and Nike fecked it up. Which means its already a done deal
Other than that Nike have nothing to do with Liverpool

Nike are far bigger than Liverpool; far bigger than any football club. Liverpool are like a fly that will get swatted away by Nike if they try to sue.

What? Surely they can not be serious. I'm no lawyer but at best it's an individual error by someone. What the feck can the do? Especially if they're going to sell him to Barca anyway.

We have no choice. We have to compete.

Still hasn’t sunk in the fee Liverpool paid for van Dijk. He’s been average for ages now.

I doubt this can be true. Why on earth would they fight so hard to keep him, only to selling his 4 months later?
