Peter you traitor

Just before the game I was walking into the room when there was a Peter Schmeichel close up.
I burst into one of those 'Come on reds !!!!!- primal screams.......

does it happen to anyone else....thinking he's still our keeper ?

Schmikes jumping up and down, screaming at his defence, intimidating oncoming forwards...still a thrilling sight to behold. We were so lucky that he played for us.

How did Denis Law celebrate his goal that put us down? Anything like shithead Smicks

I'm trying not to use the "c word" here, but do not start calling the Great Dane! You "p word coming here"!

It's totally different you "p word", as Law put us in the second division. The Great Dane has done nothing of the sort. He celebrated his team winning, nothing more, nothing less! And guess what? We are somehow still in fifth pace in the league!

God you are a right tosser!

What i`m saying (you tosser)he didn`t celebrate did he?! Just stood there all doom and gloom.
Also thought Peter left cause he could stand the heat.Seemed to like it on Saturday?!

Schmikes:

"It is going to hurt them but at least they don't have to wait too long for the next game"

"There is still plenty of quality in that team and they were without David Beckham, Roy Keane and Nicky Butt.

"You know it isn't going to take much for them to create a chance to score but I just feel that we had a bit of luck."

Seems pretty concerned to me.

Referring to an earlier point, there is no comparison between Cantona and Schmikes as Cantona was absolutely pilloried by the Leeds fans for signing for us and then when he went back to Leeds to play as a Red Devil.

From then on, every time he went back he was treated as if hanging was too good for him - downright criminal abuse, spitting, threats of violence and other such classy acts from too many Leeds supporters.

Since when have Manchester United fans done that to Schmikes? Never.

I think that Batistuta scoring and crying is a bit of an extreme example, in keeping with the southern European and southern American footballers` tendency to go over the top. Personally I find that excessive emotionalism a bit primary school and effeminate -not what I look for in top male sportsmen.

I don`t see the need for a footballer who has moved to a new club to regret scoring against his old club except in the case of the likes of Denis Law. The man was passionately a Red and was traumatised by his goal against us back in the 70s. It did NOT relegate us as people pointed out to me earlier this year but it did represent for Denis one of the lowest points of his career. And understandably so.

What I DO see the need for is for footballers such as Schmikes, who have been treated royally at Old Trafford, show some respect for the fans who supported him for so long.

He was gloating and going over the top and there was just no need for it. You can be happy that your new club has beaten your old club, especially if your new club is having a tough year, but to say some of the things he has said and to do some of those celebrations are simply a smack in the face to Red Devils.

Transcription of what Schmeichel said to the BBC on their website.

Schmeichel: "I think that was the priority to be given the captaincy today, but most important thing for me today was to obviously to out there and win the game and get the 3 points because we are in a situation where we feel we need to get something out of every game. We had a good start to the season but in a way we got found out and we were struggling for a few games. Out of 3 games we had 8 points and we have 17 points now and that makes a big, big difference and to say well, the most important thing today was that you got to go out there and try to get 3 points."

Reporter: "Was there talk in the dressing room before the game of the significance of the game, because the players looked like there were really fired up for it?"

Schmeichel:" One of the things that really, really helps you is when you walk through the tunnel here and come out and hear and feel the atmosphere. The atmosphere here at Maine Road today was fantastic. We received all the help that we needed in order to win this game and I'm pretty sure that had we played in an empty stadium that we probably wouldn't have won the game. So we're very happy with the way the City supporters supported us today, they were fantastic and they helped us a long, long way to get the 3 points."

You can draw your own conclusions, but I wouldn't paint a "Schmeichel=Ince" grafitti on the wall just yet.

I think so too and just for the record, when Fiorentina was relegated, he stay with them and won them promotion the next season. Not many players would want to do that sort of thing nowadays.

we would have thought players like Big Pete would be passionate about Red.. esp when he has won so much with us.. with SAF at the helm.. he treated him like his children.. i'm sure SAF is wishing Pete well.. but to see your own son rubbing it in over you must have hurt him more or less..

regardng your comments about male atheletes.. that's not true.. didn't any of us cry when we won the Trebel? the fans? the players? it's the passion that counts.. it's not whether you're male or female.. personally i feel it's the passion you have.. it's not whether you're male or female.. people have feelings.. if you love something so much you would cry for it.. tears are not restricted to women only IMO.

it's not that you're a woman and you are allowed to say this.. it's not fair to tell you the truth..

He didn't clebrate because it dawned on him the gravity of what he had done. ie. get us relegated, dumped into the second division. Peter has done no such thing, just played for his club to help them get 3 points.

Peter left, not because he couldn't stand the heat of playing football, but rather wanted to relax a little bit more without the pressure of playing for United - the burden, the expectation of the fans, etc.

And because of this, you go and call him a shithead, after everything he has done for United? Sorry, but that statement "shithead Smikes" is rather confusing to me.

Peter now plays for City he is only doin' his job. He sure done a great job for us. Some people sound as if he should have let in every shot on saturday. even if he had we would still not have won. How many shots did we have??
We need some new blood and remove some of the old that is no longer doin the bit. Giggs (apart from one superb pass to Ole for 1-1) looks to be daydreaming most of the time and Gary Neville fell asleep a few times. But Gazza has been good for us most other games. Let's hope that SAF has gotten through to the players that they perform to the standard expected or get tranfered.

I see Peter Schmeichel has just apologised for stopping some of our shots on saturday and has said that in the next derby he will score 3 own goals. Nice one Pete.

Hi RUnited, I am not knocking males (including male sportsmen) crying per se - I just don`t like, as I said, `excessive emotionalism` from some of the Italian, Spanish and South American players.

MU lads (even Keano!)have hugged and kissed each other after scoring goals. And cried when they achieved their dreams. I am also not criticising that. However, I simply do not like the excesses some of the players of the nationalities I mentioned above.

Particularly as there is so much homophobia in male sport - tell me one male footballer player in world soccer (to distinguish it from rugby football and Aussie football in my native country) who is `out`. Nobody. Some soccer players are all over each other, on the ground, lying on top of each other (one Spanish player even nibbled the genitals of another team player), yet imagine if a soccer play came out as gay. He would probably quit such would be the pressures.

Just my 2 cents worth on what I consider over the top displays of excessive emotionalism in football. That`s all.

are you suggesting that Batistuta could be.. gay? :D

i tend to agree with you regarding the homophobia in sports.. btw, i doubt that spanish lad was a homo. i think to some extent you can be pretty comfortable about your sexual preference. We have seen a lot of kissing going on in sports, you can't say exactly which one is a homo and which one is not.

I think it's the same in NFL (American Football). The only reason they can't kiss each other or hug properly is because of their uniforms. The helmets for one protect players from being kissed. And the ridiculously big 'dress' they call protection suit makes it all even more impossible to give proper hugs.

just m2c worth on the issue too. ;)
