Pepe Reina?

We'd be right fools to waste 20m on him.

I wouldn't say we'd be fools to spend it on him, especially if he has the ability & i think he has to step right in & continue on from the great VdS, a top class keeper is priceless in my opinion, i dred to think what the scoreline would have being yesterday if it wasn't for VdS & his amazing goalkeeping ability, my guess we would be looking at another 2+ goals deficit at least. Reina fits the bill for me & if it takes 20 million to get him then so be it, at least we'd know what we'd be getting for it.

I dont like him. A poor man's Ben Foster.......IMHO

Cant kick properly, No ability in the air, good shot stopper thats it.

I'd prefer Neuer.

Eh?

He probably has the best distribution in the league. He's got great feet.

He's actually got a better kick and throw than VDS, it's just the VDS is the most composed keeper in the league when a forward is closing him down.

Really:eek: wow. Where does this come from??? Liverpool Echo:wenger:

You're right with VDS though. He has more composure and all round ability. That's what makes him a great keeper and that's what we need.

Ok, firstly, why the feck is this post here ? There is literally no chance he will sign for us, ever.

Secondly, he is overrated and better value could be found pretty much anywhere, so linking us with him is spasticated on a level I cant even comprehend.

He is wildly overrated by most people here. The likes of Shay Given are as good, if not better. He is inconsistent, often flaps at easy saves, is awful with a man bearing down on him and wouldn't suit us at all.

That and the fact he isn't worth that much either.

.

I think that's the funniest thing I have ever read on any forum.

You can have the silver medal.

But former Arsenal No 1 Bob Wilson says Wenger did try to bring in a top keeper in the summer.

"Arsene tried like mad to buy not only a goalkeeper, but what he considered to be the most consistent in the country. So he made a big bid for Pepe Reina," he said.

"That didn't come out because that's not Arsene Wenger's way of doing it and it's not Arsenal's way of doing it, but he did attempt to do that."

Mirror.

Interesting.

Fabianski looked great for about three months before he got injured. This summer Arsenal shall be buying a keeper, because Almunia will finally leave, and Fabianski won't be back until November. What shall be interesting is whether we sign a second choice or a first choice. I suspect it'll be the former.

So Manonne has been written off?

What is it with Shay fecking Given? He isn't really that good. Oh let me see, your location is Ireland. Carry on

(Forgive me for the shit quoting. I have had the ability taken away from me by our wonderful IT dept)

Not true at all. Casillas played for Madrid very young and they won things. It's about ability, not age. Szczesny in the brief period he gave us was brilliant.

Casillas was a one off and even then it was the fact they had superior players with mental belief in addition to ability that carried them through. Also must mention Casillas wasn't first choice in 1999/2000 and only called upon due to injuries. If they didn't have the likes of Rual, Redondo, McManaman, et al they'd not have won the 2000 CL. They also failed to win the league each year they won the CL.

By 2002 they were buying up the best players in the world to create a star-studded side.

Give Arsenal a keeper like Friedel, van der Sar, Jussi for the last year or two and you can bet your house they'd be top of the league right now. Probably add a leader to the side as well would go very far.

Yep, obviously the nature of the outfield players was such that winning trophies became an inevitability.

I don't buy into the argument of Freidel or Jussi(the spelling of his surname is something I don't want to embarrass myself with ) - they're goodish keepers for upper mid-table teams, but if you put them in goal for a top club, they'd struggle massively. Like with Jussi on Saturday - that's a terrible mistake at a critical time, but since it was Bolton, no-one really cares.

Finding a top goalkeeper is a very difficult thing to do - signing mid-table PL ones is not often the way foward. I think United got one that worked, but it was probably a one-off.

And that's what Arsenal currently have - a crop of keepers that should be playing for Blackburn or Fulham. Friedel and Jussi are miles better than the current crop. Perfect foil for a side lacking mental belief and composure.

No. Szczesny in three months showed form that neither of those two have shown in their entire careers.

Van der Sar was never a midtable keeper, people forget that Fulham were going to spend their way to trophies before Fayed found out it cost too much.

Three months - no errors. I don't think either of the other two have done that.

So in three months a keeper proves he's better than two others over the course of multiple years. I suppose on your view van der Sar is greater than Schmeichel because the former went five months without conceeding and didn't make a mistake for many more matches. Schmeichel would make a mistake here and there.

Hell, even Buffon and Casillas have. All hail Wojciech Szczęsny, greatest keeper ever (based on three months performance).
